she was hurting like hell, but kept on playing like a lion :hearts: . what a goddess  . and OMG, those french creeps ! Lindsay is asking for treatment, sitting on her chair with tears in her eyes, and those jerks are cheering and starting "the wave"! there's being supportive of your local fav, and then there's being a total ass, completly without any sportsmanship (I also didn't appreciate them cheering when Venus dubble faulted against Ferina. no class) :fiery: . oh well, their lame Dechy couldn't win unless Linds was injured, and oh, wait, she couldn't win WITH lindsay injured. but I am too happy right now to be bothered with them. Lindsay is such a champion, she has such a fighting heart :hearts: . :worship: :worship: :worship:

LOL its always a case of the "Partisan Parisians"...today was no different

yes they were harsh but they are always like that  thats what makes the atmosphere so amazing on court. im actually suprised there were spare seats, Dechy playing a great player and all, but they didnt half make a lot of noise still.

im just glad Linzi is ok and got through it :) and i hope Dechy doesnt take the trouble like another player to say she faked THIS injury :)

I like that the French are spirited, it's fun! and it's completly understandable that they would get behind their local player, but starting a wave to celebrate a player being injured  ? come on... I'm sure Lindsay's feelings were hurt. that was just not cool. and the cheering when Venus double faulted... and all this, from the people who could never manage to forgive Martina H. for not being "sporswoman like" enough when she was 18 years old... double standard.

What's wrong with Lindsay? I hope she is ok. I think Venus is used to people cheering against her.. I think the players know what to expect from the French... just have to have a thick skin.

Btw Congratulations Lindsay!

I don't think linsady feels hurt ;) When Venus played in Antwerp this year ppl even booed at her  afterwards she didn't even notice. If linsday was in the least concentrated then I don't think she gave it any attention. And even if she did, it's not the first time stuff like this happen right?

The wave wasn't started because Lindsay called the trainer... I was there more than once and did the wave more than once too and it's always to cheer for someone, not to rejoice over the fact that someone is injured.

Lindsay said in her interview that she has sometype of inflamation in her toe...some nerve thing...

The wave was started because there was time to start one and there was nothing happening on the court. And it wasn't so much about cheering the injury, or even cheering Dechy, as just creating atmosphere. Really... that should have been quite obvious.

so true

im a huge lindsay fan but not once did it cross my mind they started a wave because of the injury. they just wanted to cheer on their player by making lots of noise...the french (chauvinistic) crowd is always like that

i-girl
May 31st, 2003, 05:56 PM
no,no, the injury is NOT serious. it's a toe inflamation, it hurts a lot, but the next day it's gone, Lindsay said so:).

pfff@all your lame excuses. Lindsay is being treated, very obviously in pain, and they start a wave. don't feed me nonsense please, I've never seen it happen in any other slam, and it's not ok behavior as far as I'm concerned. cheering your fav=fine, insulting the rival=not fine. simple rule.
SheDevil is right, though:). it did not effect(sp) Lindsay's play, nor was Venus effected when her double fault was cheered. true champions only play better when stuff like that happens.

It seems to me that the French like Venus. They seem supportive more than the dumb ass Americans.

Go lindsay

all the Williams fans are saying "go lindsay" :D ... ohhhhh how sweeeet  .

I don't know Dawn, you probably know more than I do about how V is being treated, but I did not appreciate the crowd cheering when she double faulted. I just don't like that kind of thing. I guess, though, that that happens regularly in many tournies. the wave thing? it just made me so mad. I've never seen that happen before. I don't know what they meant, and maybe they meant no harm, but it just felt bad.

Lol and I suppose that if I (I'm French and a bit experienced in the wave thing) tell you that the wave absolutely means no harm but it just the sign of a crowd happy to be there, it doesn't count, right?

i cant believe how paranoid some people are...has it ever crossed your mind that these people just tried to keep things a bit alive out there during a dull moment?
im not saying they were cheering on lindsay lol, but i doubt they would have liked it if she would have had to retire

if i were in that crowd today, id probably have joined the wave too!

Go to an average German tournament, and you'll appreciate the French crowd a hell of a lot more. At least they provide some more atmosphere. And no, of course they weren't mocking Davenport - if anything, it was just a sign of a restless crowd trying to pass the time during the injury timeout.

you know what, WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we all get crowds like this everywhere. and starting the wave isn't saying, yeah someone's injured. it's to get the players fired up, and to highten the crowd's atmosphere. they just wanted to see more tennis, thats all

American crowds aren't any better, they jeer their own based on skintone and they really were mean to the French players during the war.

At least the French enjoy their own countrywomen and stand by their people.

Sure if Venus was being booed my tune will change but imho the French seem to like Vee. When she was serving for the match they all started clapping to egg her on to victory.

That's only because they wanted that dull, one-sided drubbing to be over as quickly as possible.

The French crowds are horrific, but I do agree that they will stick by one of their own until they start to choke. Remember Amelie last year choked in the 1st round and they were booing. The French is the most toughest crowds in tennis.

But watch if Serena or Venus makes it too the finals, you will see who they will be against.

You guys are sooooooooo nice :) :) :)

I'm glad that ya'll supporting Lindsay - she really needs all the cheering to help her get through Conchi and Kimmi (though, I think it's a ratio of infinity to one that Lindsay's gonna win against Cljisters).

Nathalie Dechy is a talented player - it's not her fault that the RG crowd act like Gaulish barbarians. I just think it's unfortunate that the crowd had to "over-support" her.

Anyway, we all know what the RG crowd are like - utterly classless. It's quite clear that AO, Wimbbie and US are so much more civilised and appreciative. Why the ITF didn't move the claycourt GS to another country (Germany? Japan? Canada? Italy?) is beyond me. It seems that the RG crowds are only there for their beloved French stars, not the tennis.

Question though: has the ITF ever attempted to do something bout the RG crowd's vicious behaviour? Surely the things they do to players shouldn't be over looked. I mean, couldn't they threaten to move RG to another country or something?

Anyone remember the 1995 (?) match b/w Sanchez-Vicario and Katrina Hadsudova? They booed her so bad that Arantxa was reduced to tears. And what about Monica's 4th round match against Momo (7-5, 6-3 to Seles - sorry, I just had to show everyone who's better :P)? They booed Monica when she just went to blow her nose!!! Even Monica said in an interview later "I felt like I was playing a soccer match out there" Damn right you are!!! And who could forget poor Marty Hingis. Man, the RG crowds act as if she personally ran over their mothers or something. Note to RG crowds: GET OVER IT!!! It was four years ago, she chucked a tantrum, but so what?!? Everyone's gotten angry before. *deep breathe* sorry, I just can't help myself. When I see those idiots going at it again, I just....grrrr!!!!!!

And don't forget last year's final, when the crowd whistled and jeered at Venus and Serena for a "mediocre" final.

Also, who can forget Mary Pierce?!? She was always booed so bad until she won the 2000 RG. Seems like the RG crowds are never satisfied until they take over the world. Like che!
