View Full Version : Venus vs. Farina Elia; Will This Be Another Struggle For Venus?

On paper, Venus should win this match in straight sets, since she has a 7-0 record against Silvia and has only dropped one set in those victories. But Venus has struggled in both of her matchs and she was awful in her second round match. She will have to clean up her unforced erorors and work on her first serve (though is wasn't as bad as it wan in her first round match) if she wants to win in striaght sets. However, if she plays tomorrow like she played on Thursday, she may find herself going home and falling to number four (at least) in the rankings.

Personally, I think being ranked number three is bothering Venus because she believes she is better than nubmer three (which she is, but so far, not this year) and she really wants to prove to her critics and to the other players that she still is a force to be reckoned with and hopefully that fighting spirit (and a cleaner match) will lift her into the fourth round,, which I think she will advance to.

With such a commanding h2h, I feel Vee will pull it out but if she sticks to her current form, she will struggle and Silvia will capitalize on her errors for a few games. The score won't be 6-1, 6-1 but more like 6-3, 6-2 which is still a cakewalk. :)

I cant actually see Silvia winning this one, unless Venus is in a bad way. Okay I know dropping sets to players outside the top 100 is something we usually leave to Anna K but Venus is a totally diffrent kettle of fish.

Silvia is in form, but she has to get over the mental hurdle of never beating Venus. Then she can move forward.

If Venus plays well she will win in straight sets. If she plays like she did against Evie she will still win, but maybe in three sets. Her first real test will be against Vera. I can see her losing that match if she keeps up this kind of form.

Venus will win and I think she'll be more focused than in her previous match ( it's like a gradual warm-up ).

The first set of the match is over and this is the Venus I am used to seeing. She won 6-1, has an equal amount of winners and opposed to unforced errors and isn't wasting time breaking Silvia's serve. The only concern I have is her second serve. She is only winning ponts on secnd serve at about 33 percent.

As you all see on Saturday Venus won great job Venus!!!! at least venus fan's are happy for her and the critic was looking for a 3rd upset back fire on them..........never under estimate a champion and what they can pull out of their hat!!!!!! know she will move on into the 4th RD and as fans we will see........of course I'm pulling for Venus all the way, she is a great champion and very nice person as will, (I know this because a friend of mine got to meet her last year at a charity auction, a very poise person and glamour..........GOOD LUCK VENUS in the next RD!!

I saw the closing stages of the match and Venus was playing great.

Moving much better to the ball, smacking winners from nowhere and overwhelming Silvia with her groundies.

Looks like Venus' is playing herself into form!

Good luck in the next round! :)
