but I found this to be very interesting. The moderators for the FO seem to only want to let Serena talk about whatever she wants or let the reporters ask her anything they want. I've noticed in other interviews, that the moderator has said 'French questions, please...' but none of this is present in Serena's interviews.

Examples...:
Younes El Aynaoui
Q. There was a very unfortunate incident (note from cariosity: the recent bombings) in your home country. What have you heard about it? What are your thoughts?
YOUNES EL AYNAOUI: Well, I think I've heard basically what you've heard because I wasn't in Morocco, I was away. I just got the news from the media. My family lives in Rabat, so it was pretty peaceful over there.
Of course, it wasn't nice. Everybody was shocked. Me first, yeah.
MODERATOR: French questions, please.

Justine Henin-Hardenne
Q. I have a just different question. Are you going to play in July in the Fed Cup against Slovakia?
JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE: Yeah.

Q. Why?
JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE: Because I just want to play. I want to play, so that's my decision to play Fed Cup this year.
THE MODERATOR: French questions, please.

Serena Williams
Q. For a top player, you need to compete in many match. You have many competitions to play, like the tour, the Grand Slam, Fed Cup. You also have the Olympics to play. What do you think of the Grand Slam, Olympics? Which one do you think is more important?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Actually, someone asked me that the other day, which is more important, the Grand Slam or the Olympics. Would you rather win a gold medal or a Grand Slam? Growing up, I always dreamed of being in Grand Slams, winning the US Open, having a chance to play at Wimbledon and curtsey, although they took it away. I've always dreamed of that.
When I won the gold medal in the Olympics, for me it was something really, really special, and something that not everyone can achieve.
I don't know. I would give anything to play the Olympics and have the opportunity to win a gold medal in singles. I don't know which one is more important. Both of them are extremely special. But I hold the Olympics really, really special, dear to me.

later on...
Q. Are you going to play the Fed Cup in Washington?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Is it in Washington?

Q. Yes, it is.
SERENA WILLIAMS: Oh, boy. I would love to.

later on...
Q. There's so many things you and Venus have in common. What are two or three things you think are most different between you?
SERENA WILLIAMS: I'm more of an extrovert than she is. I like LA. She likes Florida. She likes LA, too. Whenever she comes, we have fun.
I don't know. I think that's about it. We're pretty much the same.

Q. What's your favorite part of LA?
SERENA WILLIAMS: You know, I love going to the nail salons and getting your nails done because they do the manicure, pedicure at the same time, and they'll give you a massage on your shoulders, if you want. I love this. It's at any salon you go to. I go to one in Beverly Hills. They know me there. It's great. I love this.

Q. Near Rodeo?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Yes, near Rodeo.

Q. Fancy?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Uh-huh.

Very interesting... :)

i thought Serena was number 1? Everything just rolls her way. And personally everyone else needs to do what serena has done, put her foot down. there would be no interview if serena wasn't there, there would be no interview if Justine wasn't there ect.....what im saying is, the player is in control of the interview. I think serena has just shown over and over again and now just has the control on the tennis court, and now in the interviews :)

um, I'm not saying that the moderator is in control of the interview but they are the MODERATOR. they can change the flow of the interview.

I think it's because Serena has done so much for the tour, she's the #1 player in the world, etc. etc. blah blah blah that the moderator doesn't care about staying on topic. It speaks more about Serena's personality and presence. :)

Serena doesn't speak french, Henin, Youness and Amélie all are french speaking.

no, irma. French questions means... 'only ask French Open-related questions'. notice in the interview that no other off-topic question is asked. ;)

If this was the case, wouldn't you think it would say... 'french questions were asked...' or something similar. ???

i think some of you are a bit confused-- they are asking the reporter people to ask questions in french, not questions about the french, and they are only asking french speakers, no one else.

an extract from ameilies interview:

Q. Do you feel the weight of expectation?
AMELIE MAURESMO: A little bit, but not so much. I don't read, you know, press. I just do my thing, see what's going on.
MODERATOR: Questions in French.

and this is from an earlier match of henin:

Q. Are you getting more free points from your serve?
JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE: For sure. It's important, too, in these kind of matches, winning easy points on my serve. We could see that I served pretty good today. It's very important also for my future.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in French, please

Funny interpretation, but they say "Questions in French" now. Maybe they read this thread and decided to clear the confusion ;)!
