View Full Version : Evie receives early nomiation as Ms. Bitch at Roland Garros

Evie Dominikovic had the game to take a set from Venus Williams and the mouth to inflict even more damage. "I was happy I was playing Venus and not Serena," she said following a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 loss in the second round of the French Open on Thursday.

Well, and some are so ready to rip SERENA for her statements when this miserable sore loser sounds of in this manner.

I will be looking forward to a future encounter between VENUS and this loser. :)

Well I think she is right, if I was to play a sister, I would rather have Venus and not Serena, as Serena is better.

Steffica Greles
May 29th, 2003, 07:04 PM
What's so bad about that?

Somebody needs to calm down LOL

She made a logical comment. Who would you rather play? Venus or Serena? Well, I know who I'd prefer.

If she'd said "I'd rather have played Grande than Serena," would you have been offended? There's no difference.

Cariaoke
May 29th, 2003, 07:07 PM
I didn't like that comment, whether or not it's true. That was a fucked up thing to say. "Hey, I get to play Venus, so I have a chance" is basically what she said. But that's what 'competitors' say, right? I recognize the blatant irony and once again what's good for the geese is not good for the golden geese. ;)

You have to feel a little bad for the broad, she plays her little tail off, takes a set from Venus, and then loses anyway. Why bother?

It is like when a talented upstart sneaks her way into one of my productions. She thinks for a little while that she can steal the show from me, topple the old broad, steal her thunder, and she might have the talent to do it. Sooner or later, before opening night, I get wise to the little scheming bitch, and toss her out of my show before any of the public hears her. After all, the only hit that comes out of a Helen Lawson show is Helen Lawson, and that's me, baby, remember?

The chick ends up pissed and bitter, just like the little broad who lost to Venus today.

Didn't she get whacked pretty badly by Serena at Wimby last year? Maybe that's what she is referring to. This is improvement. But it's also a slight of Venus. Although she's probably correct.

And shouldn't she get bonus points for honesty? Like Serena admitting that she didn't know Mikaelian prior to yesterday. What happened to that thread by the way?

Amanda
May 29th, 2003, 07:13 PM
She made the comment...and in the process made a complete ass of herself. What did Evie prove on the court?.....she didn't come close to beating Venus who wasn't playing her best tennis. Apparently she thought she had a chance vs Venus because of her recent injury and lack of match play...LOL!!!!! This proves how pathetic and poor of a player Evie is. She should have kept her trap shut.

Iconoclast, I deleted that thread because it got so blown out of proportion, and people were getting too serious and over nothing--misinterpreting the point of the thread.

Well, Evie has pulled a Hewitt. Saying something that should be kept in the head. I think most people would rather play Venus though. Duh!

Yes, it turned into a hupersensitivity conference quite quickly. Probably best to put the thread out of its misery then. But I'm glad you didn't delete it because you felt it was inappropriate to have started it. Because it wasn't. Not the least bit. In fact, it was probably one of the most harmless threads posted all day.

What was the context in which Evie made the statement?

Of course any player would rather face a less-in form opponent than a better one. It is pretty obvious and nothing wrong with that. What's dumb though is having stated that, after she lost. She should have said it before ... not after, because really, it didn't really matter who she faced ... she lost! So it was kinda dumb to say it at that point.

Holy crap, for those whiny ass Williams fans who thought Serena's comment was blown out of proportion, look at yourselves now. Evei was right: She had a better chance vs. Venus than Serena. She put in a decent display against Venus, more preferable I think than a straight set loss to Serena. Serena > Venus. Her comment makes perfect sense, grow up.

Zenith
May 29th, 2003, 10:08 PM
I would have to agree with joao. It doesn't matter to me what the other players are saying about Venus, especially if she is winning. An ugly win is always better than a pretty loss.

Dokic was mouthing off about Venus and is out in the second round, now Evie, lost on her birthday and probably seeking some solace.

Jakeev
May 29th, 2003, 10:19 PM
I said this earlier- I think the players are all thinking they have a shot at Venus these days (Dokic's comment earlier) and that translates to seeing her rather than Serena. I don't think it was a bitchy statement and i don't have the full context of the question it was asked in but imo, whats the point in saying that when you didn't even win the match..perhaps they asked her something about facing a Williams and thats how she responed...I've heard bitchier...lets hope Vee hears these comments and become more inspired.....

If anyone wants to read a post by a real tennis fan who happens to be a Williams fan compared to losers like the originator of this post who are in fact only a fan of tennis because of a few players, then this is it.

LOL@Cybelle.

Anyways, this is not a big issue IMO. Teerexx does have a point about the people who bitch and moan about everything Serena says don't trip when some other player makes comments.

Venus knows what needs to be done, and yes she is not as ruthless as she once was. She will get that back, and certain players on the tour know this. However they also know that she is not playing well right now, and they have a chance. It will be up to Venus too stop them and she is capable of doing so.

I say once Venus gets everything back on track she will beat everyone including the Princess. :D ;)

if someone wants to be pissed about it, let them be... BTW... here's the whole quote... maybe you guys can rub the sleep out of your eyes long enough to read it. as found here http://www.sportsline.com/tennis/story/6398667 :

"I was happy I was playing Venus and not Serena," she said. "Serena's a lot better and doesn't miss as much. Venus is more erratic."

Funny, it wasn't that way not so long ago. Even though both of Serena's matches went in straight sets, she made tons of errors. I think Evie was being a crabby pants and I'll have to see what the question was. It was probably something like... 'What did you think when you saw you had to face Venus Williams in the 2nd round?'

o0O0o
May 30th, 2003, 12:10 AM
LOL at the pathetic Williams fans this board has. Hello, Evie, would you rather face the best player in the game or someone not even in her league?

Heh. If she faced Serena it would have been a 6-2 6-0 loss, but now she can at least have to consolation of saying "I took a set off Venus." Anyone in their right mind would rather play Venus.

evie was just "keeping it real" and "telling it like it is". isn't there another high profile player who gets a lot praise from her fans for doing that?

seriously guys, i just really think that you listen to the media far too much. i can't find the interview, but i am sure the statement came from a leading question like "What did you think when you saw venus in your draw?". i can't believe that some williams' fans can really come into a thread and criticise a player for making an entirely truthful comment, especially when they don't know what context it was said in. evie is not the smartest girl on tour by any means, but her comment may have been offensive (although it wasn't), it was just truth. and isn't that what so many williams' fan hold in such high regard?

It probably was a bit dumb - either that or an attempt at humour (and it is quite funny if you look at it one day - "well my draw wasn't the absolute worst possible since I drew the second best player over the last year instead of the best ...") but that's a different thing from "dissing".

There is also the teeny weeny point that Evie is probably not all that experienced at giving international press conferences, as evidenced by the small number of non-Aussies who apparently had even heard of her. So she can surely be forgiven for one slightly ill-thought-out but in no way malicious comment? Can't she?
