Q. I couldn't help notice the similarity between you and Ashley, Amelie Mauresmo, a few others, in that you were all wearing the same outfit. Is there a new dress code?
LINDSAY DAVENPORT: Dress code?
Q. So many people seem to be wearing the same thing.
LINDSAY DAVENPORT: I think Nike has given the girls pretty much the same outfit to get it out to the public for this tournament. It's the only tournament we wear the outfit, so I think they wanted as much publicity as they could get for it. I notice they wear a different skirt. You're right, it's the exact same.
Q. The others had different skirts?
LINDSAY DAVENPORT: I think. I don't know. I mean, there's a solid skirt and a printed skirt. I think because we're only wearing it here in Paris, like I said, they wanted all the girls to wear the same thing so it could get as much exposure as possible.
Q. Does that bother you at all?
LINDSAY DAVENPORT: No, not at all.
Q. There's a certain motif. We can see it's light blue.
LINDSAY DAVENPORT: It's just kind of circles. Not tennis balls, but interlocking figures. There's nothing that intricate about it.
Interesting... sounds like the same thing I said here (http://wtaworld.com/showthread.php?threadid=71920):
nike should make more designs for their athletes but it's my opinion that they want to make them look like clones. the more people wearing the same outfit will unconciously make people think 'wow, all these players are wearing this same outfit, it must really be cool. I need to go out and get one.' At least that's what they're hoping for but methinks it's backfiring on them... especially when one of their top players complains.
