Maribor player Tina Pisnik prepared a first class surprise yesterday on court 17 at Rolland Garros. She beat tenth seed of the tournament, Jelena Dokićfrom Serbia & Montenegro. She lost to Pisnik after two hours and three minutes, after comitting 89 unforced errors (Pisnik 42). Tina managed to break serve eight times, her fastest serve was 176 km/h. After the win over Dokić, Tina won 70 ranking points (in the whole tournament 134) and will be ranked around 40. place on the world tennis ranking (she is 54 at the moment). In the third round she will meet an experianced Spaniard Conchita Martinez. Our player has played her once before, on that occasion she lost convincingly.
"I am very satisfied with my play against Dokić. After four defeats and close third sets against her she finally failed. After I lost the first set I played great in the second and won 6:3. In the last set, when I was up to 4:0 easily, Dokić picked her game and won two games in a row. The breaking point was seventh game, that had seven deuces, but luckily I was succesful this time and I won the remaining two games. Third round will be even harder. Only top players are playing in the main part of such a strong tournament, the goal of each seeded player is to play in the final. Certainly Martinez is looking ahead to the 4 round, but I will do everything to try to play there myself," told Tina Pisnik after her win in the French capital.
