Evie has drawn 20yo, 68 ranked Iveta Benesova. I was hoping for an unknown French wildcard but no luck!

I'm happy to say that I will be there for the match so I will cheer extra hard for everyone on the message board!! :)

Evie won her match in 39 minutes!!!

It was more Iveta's bad play than Evies good play that caused the result.

Iveta had 5 winners and 34 unforced errors and 4 double faults!

Evie was only serving 59% first serves in. She just kept the ball in play which we all know she can do well!

Still a great result for Evie, excellent for her confidence, with a bit of luck she might get 4 games from Venus!!!!!

Unbelievable

wow...great result! Had a look at the stats, and Evie got 15 winners (including 4 aces) which is good to see! Looks like Iveta brought her Z game though, and would've gotten shellacked by anyone...but still, full credit to Evie :) She was the one that took full advantage...well done! Also, Evie never faced a break point!

Now onto Venus, lol...yeah as long as she can get about 4 games ;)

Damn that draw at Roland Garros!! Evie is one of my new rising stars but Venus is my all time favorite. Who to root for????? Oh well, I won't be sad whoever wins. If Evie wins, then "C'mon!" to quote her and if Venus wins, then hopefully she'll go far in the tourney and Evie will get some good points for her second round results. :wavey:

Well Evie didn't win but she played well--some unbelievable points!! I hope that getting to this round brings her ranking up again. Does anyone know does she have to qualify for Wimbledon or does she/will she have enough points for a main draw? Go EVIE, keep pumping up that big forehand!!!

I saw all of the 3rd set. Evie really should have been able to push Venus further in the final set but she stuffed up some easy put aways.

Venus definitely was only playing about 50%. Evie though was playing well, and serving reasonably well at stages.

Well done Evie :) She could've played a lot better at crucial points but that's inexperience for you. This match I feel will help her a lot, and already I could tell that she has improved her game a lot from the last time I saw her in January.

I'm not sure about the Wimbledon situation. She reached the 3rd round last year, so the rank will drop slightly to around 120-125. But she's got nothing at all to defend until October, so I'm pretty sure she'll get it back to around 100 by then (hopefully anyway).

I wouldnt go as far as saying Evie's game has improved. I would just say that she has more confidence in her ability to play on clay. The surface suits her game more.

She's a patient player who hits with good depth but generally not a lot of pace. Her game reminds me of Patricia Wartusch.

Well her second serve in particular has improved a lot (we won't talk about those double faults though, lol). I also like the fact she is hitting more winners and going for more of her shots (that used to be a rarity). It's just little things like that, that make me feel her game is getting better. You're right, clay does suit her game quite well. Let's see what happens on the grass, I believe she is in the main draw of Birmingham?

One thing that is the same with Evie is her movement. She really has to improve that...get some more bounce around the court, anticipate better, and improve the footwork. She's a fit girl, but doesn't make the most of it.

Evie was helped by a few double faults and errors early in the match by Benesova but once Evie got the early lead you could see her confidence growing as the match wore on (as short as it was!)

You hit the nail on the head by saying she is going for the lines more and she was hitting them so well! Benesova didn't look like a player ranked in the top 100 but credit to Evie as she kept the pressure on. Her 2nd serve is also better too. Looking at the vs Venus match she averaged 131 kph which is a lot more like it.

I didn't see the vs Venus match but her court speed vs Benesova I thought was tremedous, she was chasing down everything Benesova could throw at her.

You wouldn't know she was out of form coming into the tournament would you? :)

Does anyone know who Evie's coach is now? I think he's done well!

Thanks for that nitocris :)

I believe her coach is called Adrian Montasanes(sp?) or something like that. Cant remember the exact name/spelling. He looks South American, maybe late mid-late 30's...they showed him on the TV screen during the Venus match.
