who is she paired up with?

She is paired with two category 3 players (Dean Wilson and Barber). She has parred the 3rd hole and has driven on the green, over the water on the par 3 4th hole (which is hole # 13).

Annika is 1-under through 6? Well done!

She's going to be tested much more on the front side, however... the holes are longer, and more difficult... especially 3 & 4.

cyberix
May 22nd, 2003, 05:09 PM
After 9 holes she is one under par, two strokes off the lead. She has hit every fairway and missed only one green in regulation.

Scoring system is with respect to par, which is the normal number of strokes a professional would play.

HoW is the score system work?It sounds so complicated :o .Actually, it's not. Although I really don't follow the sport, I learned golf rules the same way I learned tennis rules. I sat down and watched a tournament. Here goes my attempt:

A golf course has 18 holes. Each set of 18 holes you play is a round. The object is to get your ball into each hole with as few shots (called strokes) as possible. Now each hole has an "average" number of shots it takes to get the ball in the hole. This is called par. Par for each individual hole is different for each golf course around the world. Now if par for hole 1 is 5 strokes and I take 5 strokes to get the ball in the hole, I made par. Now if I only take 4 shots to get it in, then that's called a birdie. A birdie is "one under" par. If I take 6 strokes, then that's called a bogey. A bogey is "1 over" par. So look at this chart here:

If par = 5 for a particular hole and ....
I take 4 strokes to get the ball in, then I made a birdie.
I take 5 strokes to get the ball in, then I made par.
I take 6 strokes to get the ball in, then I made a bogey.
I take 3 strokes to get the ball in, then I made an eagle.
I take 2 strokes to get the ball in, then I made a double eagle.
I take 7 strokes to get the ball in, then I made a double bogey.

Anyway, at the end you add up all the strokes for the 18 holes of each round played and whoever had the lowest score (number of strokes) wins.

If there's anything else to add, someone else please jump in and explain. This is all I know. LOL.

If there's anything else to add, someone else please jump in and explain. This is all I know. LOL.Actually, I forgot to explain the scoring in detail. The thing that freaks most people out is how someone can have a negative score like -3 or something. Well let me explain that. From my explanation above, if you birdie a hole, it's scored as -1 (one stroke UNDER par or "one under") for that hole. A bogey is scored as +1 (one stroke OVER par or "one over") for that hole. If my scoresheet reads like this for one round:

Hole 1: -1
Hole 2: E (stands for "even" - which is par)
Hole 3: +1
Hole 4: -2
Hole 5: E
Hole 6: -1
Hole 7: E
Hole 8: +1
Hole 9: -1
Hole 10: E
Hole 11: -1
Hole 12: +1
Hole 13: E
Hole 14: -2
Hole 15: -1
Hole 16: E
Hole 17: +1
Hole 18: E

Then my score for this round = -5 You simply add the scores for each hole in the round.

If Annika scored a +1 for this same round, then I KICKED HER ASS. YEAAAAAAAAH!!!!!! [/dream sequence]

any TexasTards here who have an idea of what the weather forecast is for tomorrow? i heard they had some bad weather the last few days but today was good

the weather is important for Annika coz if the weather turns bad, it puts her at a disadvantage against the Bois cos golf courses always play longer when it rains

if the weather stays fine, i really think she can make the cut, that would be an outstanding achievement

GO the golfer-babe!

What Annika, and everyone else, wants to see is if she can make the cut. Most tournaments cut about half their field after two rounds...those who miss the cut don't get paid and everyone else finishes out the tournament.

Usually you need to shoot way under par to make the cut, but Colonial is a tough course. What's her score and position? Seemed like she had a fine day today. :D

Annika bogeyed her last hole and finished with a one over par 71. If she continues like that tomorrow I think she will make the cut for sure.

Dallas, Texas tard here.

I'm looking out my window as we speak, and the clouds look like they're breaking up. Should be pretty tomorrow. And I've heard conflicting reports on how the weather will affect her game....the soggy conditions seemed to help her today.

oh, and whomever asked about the cut...they don't do that until after the second round tomorrow. the projected cut is +1. Which is Annika's current score...I hope she'll make it so that these sexist old farts can eat a huge helping of crow!!! GO ANNIKA!!!!!!

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/gary_van_sickle/news/2003/05/19/underground/

I couldn't disagree with you more that Vijay Singh shouldn't worry about Annika Sorenstam's exemption. What has been happening all over our great country is now happening in golf, and that is discrimination against men. It is a fact that women have their own tour to make a living playing golf. As a fan, I do not want to see the game diluted by having women playing on the men's tour. If the powers-that-be want to create a mixed tour, then fine, but there is no rationalization that will ever mask that a man is being prevented from competing in a tournament designated for men in order for a woman to play and create a media event. For the media to lash out at Singh for honestly expressing what so many men are really thinking is unfair.
