Updated with first opponents in the MD.
Overall, it's very tough draw for all Asians, except Tammy & Iroda

5 out of 8 Asians are in the first quarter
7 out of 8 Asians are in the first half of the draw  (Only Iroda is in the bottom half).

One qualifier will face Venus Williams in the first round. If both Wynne and Zheng qualify, hopefully they are not the unlucky one.

Thanks Aaron. :)

Great draw

Seriously though, how ironic is it that all Asians (minus Iroda) are in the top half (5 in top quarter), and all up against very very tough opponents?

Henry, Tammy's going to have her hands full against Fabiola Zuluaga who is a very good player, especially on clay.

Finally, good luck to all competitors.

I'm back to help out of support duties.
It's just great to see 8 Asians in the
women's draw at RG. It's kind of funny
when you realize there are no women from
the UK at all in the draw. My how tennis
has truly become universal. It's even funnier
knowing that there aren't much clay courts
in Asia. Wait- there's clay courts in Nepal.
True story, the Royal family have clay courts
in their Villas. There's also the Hingis link with
her charity work; so maybe clay isn't so far
out.

Nice to see
Wynne make the cut despite having to
play big LD. Still hope we can pull some upsets.

Go girls!!.

I have lived in Japan and I have seen some clay courts there! I heard that in South Korea, they have a good number of clay courts, too. Definitely, in Jakarta alone, we have a good number of clay courts plus other cities in Indonesia. But I think it is different kind of clay...not like those in Europe or USA. In Surabaya, we used to have grass courts but now it is history!!! :( We used to have 3 series of tournament from Surabaya (grass), Semarang (hard) and Jakarta (clay) back in the mid 80s...To say the least, Indonesia has almost every kind of court among South East Asian countries. :bounce:

Yup, match btw Wynne v LD, it is like David v Goliath?

Tammy :o :( Ouch! The scoreline was pretty bad. I guess she should have played 1 warm-up event. Zuluaga is a great claycourter so the loss isn't unexpected.

Ai :), she's been coming along great on clay.

Angie :(, again not totally unexpected. Marie is a very good player. Nice to see the match being so close.

Yoon-Jeong , I wish she could have drawn someone else. Iva is playign better than earlier this year and on clay it was always tough. :( at the bagel.
