I have met more of these men than Neely.

Richard Pryor--I thought he was ok a long time ago, but not great.
George Carlin--Generally pretty good, not brilliant
John Cleese--I don't get it at all and even with American humor, I still rarely find him funny.
Eddie Murphy--I like him a little better than Pryor, but his movies are crap.
Bill Murray--I like him a lot, he is probably my favorite on the list. I met him once, though, he was sort of an ass. Still, if one of my musicals needed some comedy talent, I would hire him.
Eddie Izzard--Who?
Jim Carrey--He is ok, some of his movies were good, I wrote in an Oscar nomination for him for the first Pet Detective movie, but later I found out he was more of a Neely fan, so now I boycott all of his stuff. Traitor!
Bill Hicks--Who?
Mike Myers--I like him a lot. He has a lot of talent. He's really got it! I see all of his stuff. If he were a singer, I would throw him out of my show like I did to Neely because he might upstage me, he is that talented.
Steve Martin--I had a couple of dates with him in the 1960's. I do not kiss and tell. He is funny, I wrote him in for an Oscar nomination for "All of Me."
Robin Williams--Hit or miss with me. Some of his things I love, other times, he annoys the heck out of me and I have to leave the theatre or shut the TV off.

Richard Pryor - one word, "Moving". One of the best comedys EVER!
George Carlin - good jokes, but his delivery gets tiresome after a while.
John Cleese - not much of an opinion...never got into Monty Python
Eddie Murphy - lmao! has fallen off lately, but his old stuff (Beverly Hills Cop, 48 Hours) is greatness
Bill Murray - LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! NEVER get tired of Bill Murray!
Eddie Izzard - see Bill Murray
Jim Carrey - *shrug* sometimes I like, sometimes I don't
Bill Hicks - who?
Mike Myers - see Jim Carrey
Steve Martin - see Eddie Murphy
Robin Williams - like his more serious roles, like "Dead Poet's Society", and milder comedies like "Mrs. Doubtfire"

Great topic, by the way

I never really got into the whole Monty Python thing. I am not down with English humor. Nee this.

Eddie Murphy and Bill Murray were both funny at one point but now are just shell of themselves. Murray strikes me as extremely bitter, he was good in Rushmore though.

Robin Williams is not funny at all. He deserves to be beaten with a billy club. He can act once in a while though so he should stick to that where he is much less annoying.

At least love knows the late, great Bill Hicks. My friend introduced me to his work about six years ago. Very good stuff.

Here are a list of some of the other comedians who I like:

Dave Chappelle - funny guy and excellent delivery. Hopefully Comedy Central gives him more episodes of the "Chappelle Show". It sure beats that horrible Martin Short shit.

Brian Regan - I'm surprised he never became bigger. His CD and Comedy Central specials are recommended.

I'm sure there are more out there but those two came to mind.

For a good look into the art of standup comedy I suggest renting "Comedian" that features a look at Jerry Seinfeld trying to hone his new routine in New York City comedy clubs. I enjoyed it.

Richard Pryor - Not familiar with his work
George Carlin - Any relation to Willie?
John Cleese - Became a bit annoying after Fawlty Towers, then did those Sainsburys ads which made him grossly annoying. But he was part of the Python team, so yes, I suppose that evens it out.
Eddie Murphy - Oh please.
Bill Murray - Yeah he's funny but I've only seen him in films.
Eddie Izzard - He's brilliant. Absolutely brilliant, the bees and wasps thing he did had me in stitches.
Jim Carrey - Actually... Carrey gets a lot of bad press, but he is a good actor. I'm not familiar with his comedy work.
Bill Hicks - Who?
Mike Myers - He was on wacaday! And also became Wayne, and Austin Powers, but I still remember his days with Timmy Mallett fondly.
Steve Martin - You can kind of sum him up by when Dennis Pennis asked him the question "Steve, how come you aren't funny anymore"
Robin Williams - Tiresome shouting man.
