matthias
May 16th, 2003, 12:45 PM
just one week to go
and so it is time to start the game

the prediction game will take place if i get 5 or more participants
the rules are the same as last year

the rules

choose 5 countries and tell me on wich place she will finish
but one prediction must be 15th or lower

for example:

1st Place - Sweden
5th Place - Germany
7th Place - Malta
2nd Place - France
18th Place - Slovenia

each player will start the game with 100 points, for each place you are wrong, you will lose 1 point
for each correct predicted place you will earn 5 points.

for example:

1st Place - Sweden -----> Sweden finish as 7th -------> -6 points
5th Place - Germany ------> germany finish as 1st -----> -4 points
7th Place - Malta ----------> Malta finish as 6th ---------> -1 point
2nd Place - France ------->France finish as 2nd --------> +5 points
18th Place - Slovenia -----> Slovenia finish as 15th ----> -3 points
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.................................................. ............................... = 100 points - 14 = 86 points
.................................................. .....................................86 points + 5 points = 91 points

91 would be the final score
the player with the highest score is the winner

i hope my description was good enough
and many poster sign in!

It's a nice song but seeing that the vote is all political, I don't see France ending first. It will either be a Scandinavian or an Eastern European country.

okay, here i will post my thoughts about all the songs:

#1 ICELAND
i really like this song, and the girl (very nice eyes)
but #1 is very bad, and so i feel sorry for Birgitta

#2 AUSTRIA
i think this song is really funny, but unfortunally noone outside Germany and austria will understand the Ironic, and so he will finish 20-26

#3 IRELAND
good song, but it reminds me a bit on "fly on the wings...."
but i think he will finish outside top10 - but i like it.

#4 TURKEY
as i heard this song first i thought "horrible" but now i really like it
it have a typical turkish sound, and modern elements.
and so i hope it will finish top5.

#5 MALTA
boring - boring - boring

#6 BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA
donīt like it, in my ears it sound like she is screaming the whole tiem, but the other countries from former Yugoslavia will help to get some points.

#7 PORTUGAL
will portugal ever learn her lesson?
another result between #15 and #26 - sorry

#8 Croatia
donīt like it, but the same a BH - the balcan connection will help

.........to be continued

Josh's picks seem the most realistic to me. Eggy shouldn't be too far either - Latvia can actually win, even though I'd rather see them around #7.

My predictions tend to be awfully wrong, but then, I did not fare so bad last time, so let's give it a try ;)

Spain - #3 - there has been much nicer Spanish entries in te past (loveley Anabel Conde's Vuelve conmigo for instance), but this one should appeal to many nonetheless.
Poland - #5 - my biggest bet, they could as well end last.
Iceland - #10 - plain ESC Nordic song (there were many better ones in the past), but good enough for newbies and for Danish, Norwegian and Swedish solidarity votes :D
Croatia - #16 - worth much better, but it's the kind of song people not interested in the area are unlikely to appreciate. They should get votes from BiH, and possibly Slovenia, Romania, Turkey.
Belgium - #21 - frankly I find it quite OK myself, but apart from Irish hits like the Voice, attempts at Celtic music at the ESC have failed so far.

Who is going to win? I don't know. Russia is the huge favourite, but I wonder whether the teens will meet their usual audience on that night.

I heard Austria's and Norway's entries for the first time, and I am not ashamed to confess that I rather enjoyed both :o :D

My dear Gmt , I' ve read your predictions, and do you think that The Netherlands will be in the top 5 ? I really like that country and be happy if they win, but I think that the dutch song is really too much an Eurovision song contest ! What do you think of Louisa' s song? Which rank do you think she will be at the end of the Eurovision song contest ?

matthias

#9 CYPRUS
the songs is okay, and with 12 points from Greece they will earn a decend place at the end.

#10 GERMANY
annoying - annoying - annoying

#11 RUSSIA
annoying - annoying - annyoing

#12 SPAIN
this song is good, i wouldnīt be angry if she would win. and maybe we would see finally a Open-Air ESC

#13 ISRAEL
this song is nice to listening, and so he should make top10 - but not more

#14 NETHERLANDS
typical ESC song, will finish top 10 - but not top5

#15 UK
donīt like this song, and it is a bit boring, or?

#16 UCRAINE
i really like this song, and he should go to top5, and i think he will be the dark horse

#17 GREECE
boring - i will go to toilet at this song ;)

#18 NORWAY
good ballad, and with the late number he can earn a decent ranking
but it sound a bit like the song from "la boeme" or how was this france movie with sophie Marcou called?

#19 FRANCE
after few times the songs is really good, and i would love to see FRANCE win, but unfortunally the will not :(

#20 POLAND
i think this song isnīt bad, but the artist is horrible.

#21 LATVIA
the song is okay, and with some points for the good ESC they will earn a good spot

#22 BELGIUM
isnīt this song 10 years too late?

#23 ESTONIA
the song is called "80īs coming back" but this songs has nothing from the 80īs - lol

#24 ROMANIA
i really like this song, and so i hope it will get a good ranking, but unfortunally i will be wrong and it will end low

#25 SWEDEN
i think this song is a typical "happy" swedish ESC song
and maybe they will win again, will be top5 for sure

#26 SLOVENIA
this is too much "na na na" for me, but at this moment we have survived 25 songs, and so we will survive this 3 minutes too

matthias
May 18th, 2003, 04:15 PM
okay, here is my prediction

Since it's usually a country from the East (North East) that wins (and often one coming near the end), here's my guess:

1. Turkey
2. Poland
4. Russia
9. Germany
last place: Portugal

I want Austria to win!!! LMAO!!!!!! It's so bad it's actually brilliant!

I've edited my prediction at 18u15.

My dear Nicoleke , I could agree with you about the Dutch song, but remember Charlotte Nilsson who won with a song which not only was a typical Nordic Eurovision song, but not even a very good one :D Most voters are not ESC-addicts like you and me, they just listen once and choose whatever suits them best...
I like Louisa's song, I even dropped a tear when I heard it a few weeks ago and she sings it better and better, from the few times I saw her on TV. I'd like to hope for a miracle and see her finish in, say, the top6, but it is quite possible that she will end "up" (or down) in the bottom6
