Is she the REAL thing? The future of Dutch women's tennis, together with Michaela Krajicek? :)

Don't know if she is, she seems to be getting better, but she's 19 already. She concentrated on her school at first, but she graduated about a year ago now, so I guess the full concentration on tennis could be the reason for her big progress!

I'm surprised too. Last year Elise wasn't playing so good. Good luck to her though! I hope she can keep moving up!

Sarah, it probably takes time to adjust from being a scholar with topsport aspirations to being a fulltime sporter ;) (or that's just my wishful thinking explanation ;))

DutchieGirl
May 16th, 2003, 11:58 PM
Yeah I agree Linda - I just thought it might take a bit longer than 6 months to adjust! Coz I saw her playing at the start of December, and she got beaten by Yvonne Doyle! And now she's beating anyone she plays!

She's now into the SF in Casale - so that takes her winning streak to 17! She just beat DegliEsposti and she is a good player! Plus she's beat Mens (who is top 300). I think it will be interesting if she will start playing $25k challengers. Plus I'm wondering if she'll get a WC again to Rosmalen!

17  Go Elise :bounce:

what is the ranking she'll need to get into 25K maindraws? Cos I remember you explaining to me that the Dutch girls would need qualifying for those (when Amanda and Marielle started doing well)

DutchieGirl
May 18th, 2003, 11:21 AM
Well, top 350 pretty much guarantee's a spot in a $25k maindraw - unless it's a really tough draw. So she'll still have to move up a bit. The $25k's this year have actually been getting tougher draws, so it may be that you need to be closer to top 300 to get into a MD!

Zamboni

hmm so for now 10K's will fit ;)

DutchieGirl
May 19th, 2003, 02:06 PM
yeah, but she's moving up quite rapidly. She still has the points from Edinburg to go on - err actually, they would have gone on today, but I didn't check the rankings yet. And then next week she'll have the sf points from Casale on! :D

yup, and at the end of Roland Garros she'll have the points from last week to go on (think she lost in the semi's again from memory), so I'm guessing she'll be about 430 or so then! I'll work it out later! lol

While surfing on the internet i found this article:

Top Ranking Mover
The low countries seem to be coming to the fore in Women's tennis. At present Kim Clijsters of Belgium is the number one ranked singles player in the world but you would be hard pressed to name the top ranking mover in the singles rankings this year.
That honour falls to Elise Tamaela of the Netherlands. At the beginning of the year she was ranked equal 998 but has now jumped an amazing 757 places to number 241 in the world.

Elise was born in Tiel, Netherlands on 22 January 1984. She had a relatively successful junior career reaching a singles high of number 20 and a doubles high of number 6.

Elise started this year playing in singles qualifying of $10,000 tournaments in Egypt, by April she had made her Fed Cup debut for the Netherlands in their Euro/Africa Group 1 loss to Hungary.

After once more appearing for the Netherlands in Fed Cup competition, Elise won the $10,000 tournament in Bournemouth as a qualifier and the $10,000 tournament in Edinburgh, again as a qualifier.

This success enabled Elise to play in the qualifying events of $25,000 tournaments. History almost repeated itself as Elise got through qualifying in both the $25,000 tournament in Garching and the $25,000 tournament in Hechingen. This time though, her progress was halted in the final on each occasion.

All this indicates that Elise Tamaela has a bright future ahead, and she is our top ranking mover of the year so far.

she lost 2nd round, but hey her ranking should still go up! (or? *needs Sarah*)

CrashOne

Her ranking will move up, about 8 to 10 places.

That will mean she moved about 775 places this year!

And she will play another 3 tournaments.

Btw, where is she from? I mean, she's quite "tanned" isn't she? ;) Is she from India? Indonesia?

Zamboni
Dec 8th, 2003, 07:44 PM
I don't know honestly, I suppose Indonesia, because it's our former colony ;) but I've never heard anything about where she's from.

DutchieGirl
Dec 9th, 2003, 03:33 AM
I'd guess that at least one of her parents was Indonesian, because yeah she is quite "tanned". :D

Well done Elise on #178! :D :yippee: She should soon be in the top 150 (maybe if she does well at the AO she can get there).

Sorry, molucan? What's the name in Dutch exactly? (Or was that the name in Dutch?) Because that's not a name in English!
