Has anyone else here heard this CD? I bought it the day it come out for 2 reasons: 1-I loved "Lights Out", and 2-I was very interested to see what Elvis' daughter had to say.

So, I didn't have any expectations about this CD at all, but after hearing it now for over a month or so, I love it. This is so far on the short list of best CDs of 2003!!

But be warned, if you're an Elvis fan.... you probably won't like this. She's obviously been through some shit (drug dependency, 3 divorces, raising 2 teenage boys alone, etc)...and she tells all about it.

The music is very dark and emotive. I think my favorite song is S.O.B., but that may be just because she swears a lot in it. I really love the 'hidden' track after To Whom It May Concern.

I can't think of one song that I really don't like, but honestly my least fave (and I still love it) is "Lights Out".

nah, I haven't gotten the album...I've been pretty resistent towards her with all of the hype she's gotten on VH1, and stuff. Glad you like it, though....maybe I'll check it out.

Do yourself a favour and d/l "S.O.B."... I think you'll like it. I've found the CD to be quite a 'grower'...and I don't watch VH1 so I must be missing out. LMP isn't my fave personality/celeb, but I am really drawn to her pain and her voice. Very blues-y and you can tell she's dark and deep.

Seles, I've seen the video for one of her songs. Unfortunately I dont know which song it is. Anyway, I think it is a good song but literally, I can't understand a single word of the lyrics because the music is so loud over her voice. Is it because she doesn't have a good voice or is it just on this one song?

"...
You said it wasn't sharp and I cut my finger.
You said it just wouldn't burn, and I scared my face.
You said it just wasn't there when it fell down on me.
And I'm just a son of a bitch, no matter what you say.
I said I just like to bite on my fuckin' fingers.

Yes I recommend at least that song, but the whole CD is really good.

And re:Andy.... Somebody got called into work for forced overtime at their fucking job, so somebody couldn't go overpay for mediocre food and a hot waiter. :(

The CD tends to be a bit depressing, but I'm there today since I couldn't see my boyfriend-to-be. Oh well, I was having a bad hair day anyway. (Trying to say upbeat,...but ugh...)

Brian: the vid you saw was for "Lights Out".
"Someone turned the lights out there in Memphis.
Oooh, that's where my family is buried & gone.
Last time I was there, I noticed a space left, next to them there in Memphis....in the damn back lawn.
It was a bridge that I was crossing.
That's when I start walkin'.
I guess I fell off on my own.
I've heard all roads lead back there, to Memphis.
Except the one I'm stumblin' down.
I'll be damned if I'll ever get this little son of a bitch from Memphis.
I still keep my watch two hours behind."

It's odd...but when I'm upset, I put on the most depressing CD I can find (usually the Cranberries "Everyone is doing it so why can't we", or LMP), and somehow it helps like speed up my depression, so I feel better sooner. I know that sounds stupid, but there you have it.

But it doesnt answer my question, can you actually understand her on the other songs?

Yes you can. She sings low and her voice is deep, which makes you have to pay attention. :)

deep as in testosterone deep?
More just low. The bass drones her out just a bit and she has the Elvis snarl goin' on for her. (Hey, it *is* genetic). ;) I can understand her well, and there's all her lyrics listed on her website : http://www.lisamariepresley.com/music_home.html

I heard her song on CMT and it was a little more clear but for the most part I couldn't understand her. However, I love the music so I always listen to it when it comes on.
