Liz Hawkins is waiting patiently to play her match:angel: . She thinks she is going to loose, as she does each time she walks on court, but she loves playing anyways, and she wants to play, and if the tour director doesn't get her on quickly, someone is going to get seriously hurt.:fiery: Have you seen the size of her arms? ;) (JK Alek, I know how it is;) )

ROME - After a tremendous success, beating all the records in Cuba and other Latin American countries, with her Playboy debut, Gisele Noventz will return on it's pages very soon for the second time. With an exclusive surprise.

Jason Kasalic, who took the pictures on Gisele's 'first time', will now photograph and shoot a special edition with a DVD, and the magazine's making of.

"It's going to be fantastic" said him. "We're very happy for her. She's very brave"

Gisele Noventz it's actually in Rome, playing the Telecom Italia Masters, but was already aware of the news, and by phone, gave us an preview

"It's going to be shoot in Brazil. We did the first magazine in Cuba, and everyone there loved. And now, we're hopefully doing this in Brazil. And it's going to be more audacious!" said the former top 10 player.

Asked if she doesn't regret from doing it, she answered "No. Of course not. It's a very beautiful work. I shouldn't be ashamed of nothing."

[8]Gianna-Adrianna Dulko def. WC Arantxa Danese 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(3)

Dulko's comments:

"This was such a tough match.Danese really put her heart into it today and gave it her all. I was quite nervous heading into the match as I did not know what to expect. Araxna really showed me what she had, her talent, as she really played well. However, I was able to pull through to win the first set, being able to come back from a break down. In the second set, Araxna snatched the set away from me by winning the final two games quite easily with great winners and superb net play. In the third, we really played some tight rallies and I was quite nervous goign into the tiebreak. However, I really was able to play well and make quick points to win the tiebreak quite easily. Araxna is playing doubles with me this tournament with the retirement of Regla, so I got to know her quite a bit in practice. She is a great girl with a lot of promise. I hope we do well in doubles."

Liz Hawkins:
"Well, I did loose, but at least I qualified. That was my goal for the week. Soon enough I will be the one playing the qualifiers in the first round, instead of the vice versa."

When asked about Giselle's playboy shoot, Liz responded: "That is very disappointing. I don't know Giselle very well, but those girls who are willing to show their naked bodies to millions of horny men around the world, and put themselves up to be judged in the most shallow way possible, I don't know. It seems pretty slutty to me. Hopefully Giselle will stop soon, because I am sure that, underneath it all, she is a really nice, beautiful person, and that is what counts. On the outside, beauty is very VERY temporary, but on the inside, beuaty is forever."

Lindsay Sarile of the Philippines waves appreciatively to the crowd after her 6-2 7-5 loss to qualifier Nicoletta Lapenti in the first round of Telecom Italia Masters. This is Sarile's first tournament back since a drug scandal has forced her to several weeks of rehabilitation and readjustment.

"Well, I guess this goes to show how unprepared I am still to go on court with someone. I guess it's still too early. That isn't an excuse though. Nicoletta played wonderful tennis. She really knows her way on this surface."

There have been reports of the Filipina and HongKong star Jane Wong talking again after the controversy has ripped their friendship apart. Sarile gave no confirmation.

''Caroline is the type of player that you don't know on what kind of day you'll get her. Today, she was on but I played the important points better. She had some chances to take the third set but she got a little tense and I made her play'', said Kroulikova following her 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(8) win over Luxembourg's Caroline Menard.

Monica is a very lucky looser!:)

May 16th, 2003, 11:33 AM
I'm glad for my win over Paula. She is not at her best but she is a former top player.

About Angelica, i think she is just a sore loser who knew was gonna lose against me.. and that's why she withdrew... well you know, this things happens with people who don't know how to lose. :)

I think there should be a rule about withdraws... because it's easy for a top player who has a bye in the first round know her result based on the scoreline of her rival in the previous round, and if she sees that she is gonna lose, she withdraws so this does not counts on her amount of tournaments

ALX dos cosicas, estas seguro de que mi resultado esta bien? y es Kurkova/Ferrer! :p

May 16th, 2003, 03:21 PM
Conde-Martinez needs to go back to the grave. You already run one game, don't attempt to take this one over. You're a well known cheater so I wouldn't go spouting your non-existant morals. Your player died and came back, so if Anjelica needs to withdraw, I think that's reasonable. Mind your own business.

May 16th, 2003, 03:25 PM
Anjelica de la Courtiere:

"I just have a short statement to read. 'Yesterday I spent the morning in the hospital after waking up to a great deal of pain in my knee. I went to the doctors who informed me that it was just a minor inflamation that is accuring because of my old knee injury and playing so many matches lately. I'm on an antibiotic and anti-inflamatory drugs and the doctors tell me that I should be okay to play Strasbourg, and I will definitely be okay by Roland Garros. This is a great relief for me, after doing so well in the clay season. I'm glad that I will be able to make my attempt at the Roland Garros trophy, and I believe I will be able to give it my all. Thanks for coming.'"

May 16th, 2003, 03:33 PM
And I have lost in a *lot* of second and first rounds after byes, so you really need to shut up. I've been going through a lot lately and I don't have to deal with your fucking mouth. My reasons are personal and I don't have to share them with the entire world.

May 16th, 2003, 05:59 PM

Ruflina beats Larissa to advance to semifinals in Rome

Taliamanosoko reacts after defeating the #1 ranked Ferrer

For the second time in her career, Ruflina Taliamanosoko has earned a win over the #1 FWTT Player - Larissa Ferrer.

In two tiebreak sets, which effectively came down to better service games, Ruflina proved on this day she had the edge in mental strength.

"I was seeing the ball so clearly today and hitting it so well. It's one of those rare days when everything goes perfect, and for me, it happened to be against Larissa, which is such a tremendous accomplishment."

This moves Ruflina to the semifinals, where she will face Anna Kroulikova. "It's important to not focus too much on this win, as I have to play Anna next. She is just as tough and I have to stay focused and be determined and just play my game."

May 17th, 2003, 02:21 PM

 marteena/lindsay

oh well, back to the drawing board...

May 17th, 2003, 03:31 PM
Adriana González was in a terribly bad form since her two losses at the Fed Cup against France. "You know, it was damn sad. I was a lot near of making it. If I had won one of the matches Spain would have got the tie".

After that she lost very early at Warsaw and Berlin, stating that she was losing mood again. "I felt confident, but when I was leading the matches, I started to feel tired and I just didn't care about the match."

Now once again, like she did at Miami, she got back with her self-confidence. She's beaten world number 2 Marteena Huubere, and top ten player Brenda Van Haak (whom she had lost at the semis of Miami) to get to the semis of Berlin. "I'm not really a clay-courter, I mean I prefer hard courts, but I'm starting to feel confident again on this surface. Until now, my best result on this surface had been the semis at the old Warsaw, which was a tier IV or IV I think".

Today she will have to play Monica Gambill. It's going to be an easy match since the last two when she had to play two top ten players. "I don't know what's going to happen. You know that I'm a bit irregular yet and I'm tired, I've won three setter matches and most of them were very tiring. I'm really looking forward to play the match, but I don't want to get injured, since I will play Madrid and Roland Garros".

Asked about her goals this season, she said she wanted to be top ten and to win a tournament. "If would be nice if it's in Madrid the next week. I want to feel what is winning a trophy like again. About the top ten. I definitely think I can reach it this season. I was already 12th, so I'm not really that far".

Taliamanosoko beats an injured Kroulikova

After being up 4/1 in the first set, Russian Anna Kroulikova did a split slide on the clay and pulled her hamstring muscle. Kroulikova immediately fell to the ground and called for a trainer.

"I saw her fall to the ground and knew something was wrong. She was playing so well too. When the trainer came out and helped her to the chair, I asked her what happened. She said on the run in the split, her leg just pulled the wrong muscle and she couldn't move."

After that injury, the noble Kroulikova continued on despite only winning 4 more points in the entire match, before retiring at 6/4, 4/0.

Taliamanosoko moves on to the finals against Lucky Loser, Monica Gambill.

"I can't believe Monica and I are playing in the finals of a Tier I event. Usually we face each other in rd 1 or rd 2, but neither of us have been successful at the same event ever. Especially for her to come through after losing in qualifying, it's quite remarkable. We have an even head-to-head, so I'll be sure to keep focused, stay positive, and just play my game."

WELL DONE MONICA! :o It would be so cool (and kinda funny) if you won as a lucky loser! You would be the next Abramovic! And how fitting that you reached the final as a LL, just the same as Abramovic did this week in 25K Stockholm! ;)

Monica Gambill reached the final of the Italian Open with a straight sets win over Adrianna Gonzalez. Gambill won 6-2 6-4.Heres an interview with Monica

Q.Well Monica you made the final how do you feel?

Monica- Very happy after loosing to Sugarn in quallies i thought i was a gonner but after a withdrawl i was back and now i'm in the final which is great.

Q.Easy match today?

Monica- Not really i had to work hard but Adrianna looked a bit tired shes had a few tough matches here. She didn't seem to be able to stay in long rallies in the first set but by the second she was a little more pumped up

Q.Another match again Ruffy. How are you feeling about that?

Monica-Quite excited i mean i'm going with a lot of confidence as i beat her last time we played so i know i can beat her again but it will be very tough!

Kroulikova pulls out of semi encounter with Ruflina!
''I'm so dissapointed! I've played well all year and now, that old nagging injury is comming back to haunt me before the French. I went for a backhand and I slipped and my hamstring really pulled! I pulled out mainly out of precaution a week before the French. It's dissapointing but I'll try to get fit before Paris''.

Imagine that the grass on the picture, is clay ;)!

I think Monica winning Rome is the first time ever in FWTT (to my knowledge at least) that a Lucky loser has won the title! (and a tier I makes it even more shocking! :o )
