Everybody knows what she did in Australia against Serena. Afterwards, she was playing pretty decent, but following a semifinal effort in Acapulco, she suddenly slumped, losing four consecutive first round matches. She snapped that streak in Berlin taking out Srebotnik, but here in rome she has done even better as a lucky loser, taking out Chladkova and Rubin. This should bring her to that career high ranking she's been striving for...

she plays the winner of Pisnik-Maleeva in the next round. I don't expect her to win, but damn would it be nice.

What did she do in Australia --Lost to Serena? You guys act as though she beat Serena.

Yeah, she lost to Serena 5-7 in the third set. You should be happy that a close loss to Serena is worthy of significant praise and note, but you're not because you can't see past your own prejudices.

Not many people can say they've taken a set off Serena lately, I would hope that Loit is proud of herself.

Not only has the "other pupil" of Momo's coach woken up, but remember, she lost in the qualies and got the LL when Juju pulled out and Patty moved up in the draw!

IMO, you won't be remembered for almost having the upset. But hey if it makes some people feel good then so be it. Whatever floats your boat.

Who said she would be?

anyway, this thread doesn't have anything to do with Venus or Serena so fuck off if you have nothing worthy to add.

What's wrong with acknowledging that Emilie Loit pushed Serena Williams into a third set that Serena wasn't expecting to play? It was a strategically good match from Emilie and she managed to expose a weakness in Serena's game that not many other players saw before. Emilie deserves some praise. No one is saying she beat Serena. No one is saying she's better than Serena. But a lot of people are now noting that she has talent and are saying that she played well in that first round match and deserves a pat on the back for her efforts.

 At leslie and harloo. If she can push Serena to a 7-5 third set, she obviously has talent. I'd think that even ignorant people like you two couldn't deny that.

I think Emelie has a decent chance against Tina, hopefully she can capitalize and go into RG playing good tennis.

To be fair, that match in Australia may have placed unfair expectations upon Loit.

Suddenly, she became the next thing. Of course this makes other players want to be her.

Perhaps the difference now is that she is comfortable on the court again.

very possibly.

Anyway, she plays Pisnik in the third round tomorrow. She's only played Tina once and beat her 6-0 7-6 last year in Gold Coast. Would be nice if she could do it again..... ;)

yes, agreed. i'm a serena fan, but don't think it takes anything away from Serena's game and dominance to suggest the Loit gave her a real run for her money. not many get close to beating serena these days...
