well what did anyone expect? And she had a problem with BJK not allowing her to play. Me thinks Alex needs to hit the practice courts.

Thread is not NEWS...if the scoreline was from hardcourts or grass...then maybe..but on clay...NOT

Happy for Fabi...she works hard and is slowly finding her way back...

to be fair to Alex the score would have been the opposite if they played on grass or hard court (most probably)... Fabiola is a great clay court player, so nothing surprising in this match score.

Alex will probably bow out in the first round of Wimbeldon too - she has no form so don't expect her to just turn it on.

clay is her vice? we've only been on clay for about a month. From the way she's played this year, Rebound Ace, Indoors, Hardcourts and clay are her vices.

What's her record this year?

Clay is such a difficult surface. Anyone who has won on it deserves credit. And especially those with a French Open title. Like ME!

Hey Sue you got lucky! Unlike Genie Wade who won on pure skill and excelence.

Fabiola :D A double pleasure for me : I really like Ms Zuluaga....and I deeply hate Stevenson

well, she did beat Jennifer at the French Open in 2000, so I really think that Jen's in for a fight.

Well done Fabi :bounce: As others said this result was never in doubt.

She can play on other surfaces too...and she is also not your typical counterpuncher from the back of the court. She can really give the ball a good belting. I love watching her play....she went top 35 3 years ago and had some great results, looks like she is finally getting back to that after her terrible bad luck with injuries.

Fabiola had a great run the year she won against Jenn at the French. I think she reached the semis in Rome that year too. After that, she had a terrible eye or shoulder injury, I canīt remember exactly but that prevented her from reaching the top30 I believe.

Last year she won in Columbia, her home country, when returning but didnīt do that well afterwards. This year, I feared she might not be able to repeat that clay form when skipping the American events but that made sense knowing they played France in FedCup in France and therefore she did quite well concentrating on red clay. She has 3 solid results (point-wise especially, knowing she had to qualify somewhen too) now and that lift to the 45 position in the rankings might allow her to reach an all-time high soon.

If sheīs clever enough to repeat her Jenn-win that could even put her close to a Paris-seed :)
But thatīs only possible if going deep into the Rome event. Currently, she has overtaken Pierce in the mid-week-rankings.
