Yes that's true, but I think the Ordina-Open is a great tournament. A classic one with a ATP and WTA draw. It has the same underground as Wimbledon so it's a very good warm-up.

That's why Hingis played here too in 2000 and Lleyton Hewitt the last two years.

Now it has a great line up too! So I think it's ready to become a Tier 2 soon! :D

happens before.......
Monica last time skipped an indoor Tier II
for Shanghai Tier IV,
also i believe KimC went to Luxemburg for Tier III
instead of indoor Tier II....

i guess the points arent that improtant for Kim

those samples are one player only! this is a multi-players who happen to prefer a lower tier before wimbledon

how about upgrade Birmingham to Tier I,
and upgrade this to Tier II, omitting Eastbourne,
sharing $170,000 amongst 56 players IS kinda cheap dont u think?.:)

This isn't quite true, Jennifer is playing at Eastbourn too. and I won't be suprised if Lindsay enters too.

There are varying reasons...

Firstly, with Kim and Justine being ranked so high now it flatters the Tier 3 event in Holland - but they have supported that event since thery were lowly ranked and it is close to home - hence why they play....

Eastbourne has a problem as it is actually not popular among the players - they say it is too windy (the stadium is 2 mins wak from the sea)...

Eastbourne this year has 5 of the top 11 and more than likely Davenport as well.

Birmingham should certainly stay a Tier 3 as it would never get the players to play there if it was any higher - the players simply dont want to play lots of grass events so close to Wimbledon and the French Open... plus the facilities are Birmingham are old and not the greatest...befitting one of the oldest events in the world......

I think they should move Vienna to after Wimbledon and Have a female event at Halle the same week as Birmingham to add some spice to the Halle event - then we would have 4 grass events and most top 100 players would get into an event so get decent practice on grass ahead of Wimbledon...

Yes that's true, Eastbourne has a great line up. But the Ordina-Open is a Tier 3 and Clijsters, Henin-Hardenne and Mauresmo are better players than the first in Eastbourne. But ofcourse the line up in Earstbourne is much stronger.

But I think the Ordina-Open is ready to become a Tier 2 :D

I think the top European based player prefer to play there cos its nearer to home like Kim and Justine.

BTW J.Cap is the top seed for Eastborne at 7.

Eastbourne always gets a good field... there won't be top names rankings-wise, but its always full of top classed players. If I remember rightly, the first qualifying spot is occupied by someone ranked 32 or 33. The whole draw is only a 28

Whereas the Ordina open (i haven't looked at the commitment list for this one tournament) would appear to have 2 or 3 mega big names, and then a HUUUUGE drop off as all the players ranked 10-50 are at eastbourne.
