This is not a bash-Jenny thread.

I just was thinking about it, and realized it's an amazing statistic. I think that the last time she beat someone ranked above her was at the French Open in 2001 -- Martina Hingis then #1 in the semis. Almost 2 years ago!
Now for much of that time she was ranked very high and she did have some good wins during the last two years -- but is it true that she's not beaten anyone ranked higher than her??

I don't believe Jenny beat anyone higher after dropped from the #1-#3 range.

Well i have no idea, id say Martina is the last person she has beat that is ranked above her. Clearly everyone has gotten better, and is now harder for Jen to beat them, she has come very close though. I think she can take out kim, every other match, seeing how close their match was (and jennifer just about had her beat till kim pulled a 'LITTLE" serena on her) And I think she can take out Lindsay "if lindsay has a bad day"

But everyone else, I think have just gotten better than Jennifer. But everyone can bounce back, and jennifer has shown she is a fighter. She should eventually beat someone ranked higher than her again one day, but I think she will get a lot of help at the same time :)

From May 2001-Jan 2003, Jen was either #1, 2 or #3. Its kind of hard to beat someone above you when you are sitting at the top, eh? We all know Jen has had troubles with year with top players, but do you have to create a new thread for this? Go bash her in another thread that some other loser on this board created regarding this topic

Why do you need to know? If you are an avid tennis follower you would not have to ask that question. Are you gaining something from it, will you get a couple bucks from getting an answer, will it improve something in your life?

...or maybe they just wanted to know? why do you care anyways? I think it is an interesting fact that Jen hasn't beat anyone ranked above her this year (I say this year b/c shes been ranked either 1,2, or 3 for a while). I don't know why you have to be such a bitch about it...

Jenny can beat evey woman in the world with the exception of Serena, Venus, Kim, Justine and Lindsay. Most of the time.

Maybe we can throw Momo in that list too..... maybe ?

how about this, She hasnt beaten a top 5 player not named Hingis since she won the Australian Open....in 2001 :o

Howcome Jenny fans have to get all antsy about this question?! LOL! It's not a mean question at all!!! If someone asked some quasi-sensitive question about Guga, yet it was infact an interesting question at that, I doubt I would be so pissed! Jenny has a lot of haters, true, but are you guys really in the mindset that any thread that is not devoted to loving her or posting a result of hers is supposed to be negative?! I think you guys and your skepticism are making it negative.

I'm really not a Jen hater. My mind sometimes dwells on statistics, and this occurred to me as an interesting one. If it's been discussed before, sorry for repeating it. Obviously it was hard for her to beat players ranked above her when she was ranked in the top 3 (as I said in my original post) and of course in 2003, she's coming back from eye surgery. She's played the top players very tough and its a mental hurdle which I think she can get over, since she's always been very tough mentally. I just thought it was a striking fact. No need to freak out.

Actually she beat Justine Henin in the Quarterfinals of Montreal right before beating Dokic.:) So if Jelena for some reason doesnt count as a win, Henin does.

I dont think Justine or Jelena were ranked higher than her at that time. Jennifer was the #2 seed at Montreal, Jelena was #3, Justine was #5.

Jelena MAY have been seeded behind her b/c the seedings aren't based on current rankings, but Justine probably was not.

Except for wins over Hingis at Roland Garros, and Charleston, Capriati really hasn't beaten someone ranked ahead of her for a while

However, for the Capriati fans who are annoyed with this thread, it's not like someone's pointing out that she's losing to bad people. She just can't seem to beat Venus, Serena, Lindsay, Amelie, Clijsters and Justine. She has a few sketchy losses, but for the most part, she consistent, and she's losing to better players - she's not beating herself, she's actually getting beaten.

Leena

Jelena may have been #4 by Montreal (I know she was by US Open)... but Jenny wasn't ranked #5 then.

since Jen has spent the time in the 1, 2 position for most of the time, and then was 3 last year [with the sisters 1, 2] obviously she hasn't beatn anyone higher then her in a long time...it's hard to beat anyone a head of you when you are at the top ;)

Maybe we should look at her record against the top 10.

I think another interesting stat this year, is that she hasn't lost in straight sets.

I said top 5 and Henin wasnt in the top 5 at that time

it was

1. Serena
2. Venus
3. Jen
4. Monica/Jelena
5. Monica/Jelena

they flipped flop all summer till after Bahia

Oh Monica, she should've been #3 last summer! oh well ;)

Jenn is undergoing a tough time now...

put yourself in her shoes..
suffering heart-breaking 3-setter losses all the time this yeAR... if not for her passion for tennis i m sure she would have given up n retire..... give her some credit for at least hanging it in there....

Jenn is a great champion...though she really underachieves at the moment but her determination to strive for her goal earns my respect

Xena will be back....Juz watch it guys...

8. Chanda 6-4
9. Daniela 2-0
10. Jelena 4-1?
12. Monica 5-9
----------------
31 Wins 43 losses

really and major eye surgery? Let me explain Jen's surgery to you, my mother had the same exact surgery, and not to start shit, but for Jennifer to say she couldn't see for about 2 weeks is a Bold face lie, my mother woke up the next morning in bed, and could open her eyes (all the way mind you) a lot of times, she had to shade them, and when she was ready to go out she had to wear the big glasses you know the old folks have or catracs..... I think Lindsay Davenport came back from a more serious Surgery and Jennifer did, and she has done "WAY" better than Jennfer has so far this year.

Too cheer people up, lets talk about Serena!

When was the last time Serena beat someone ranked above her?

I don't usually expect players to beat players ranked above them. The only really recent exception to this is when Serena was hanging around at number 8 or so. She was clearly ranked below her true ability.

But what's with Jenn getting waxed by Alex on a semi regular basis?

actually, she beat Seles at the Ericsson in 2002. and did you see that match with jelena? I did, she had her beat before Jelena got "injured". Plus, all her three wins over Serena in 2001 came when she was in the top five (or close, who can remember?). Then there was that win over Clijsters in the semis of Australia in 2002 when kim was in the top five. But other than that, you're right.

No, you're stupid. Where did you get the idea that she had "major eye surgery"? she did not, you jackass. It was MINOR. And no longer affecting her by the Australian Open BY HER OWN ADMISSION. The reason she has yet to defeat a top player this year is because she hasn't played well enough to do so. Accept that.

Jeez, no need for such hostility King Lindsay. What the fuck is your problem? :fiery: I would think that any surgery that causes you to have stiches in your eyeballs would be major. And the reason she hasn't beat a "top" player this year is NOT because she hasn't played well enough. All have been 3 close sets, and a couple of points here and there. She has played at the same level as them. All she needs is a little luck and some more match confidence, which comes from playing matches on a consistent basis. Which is hard to do when you are off for a couple of months due to eye surgery and the inability to be in the sun. Please take some anger management classes. You oobviously have a lot of unresolved issues.
