Many great players in the field.
This is probably the toughest Tier III tournament we have ever seen in this year.:)

Who's in Birmingham then? Didn't only Jelena play last year (and she was playing all the tournaments anyway)?

I think Grass is in the rest of the world not so popular...
actually there are 2 50K grass challengers both in Japan these 2 weeks,
so i guess they can make one there too.....
like right after Wimbledon or something....:)

Grass courts are very hard to maintain - I was watching a film some time ago about how they take care for Wimbledon main court; i think it takes them almost a whole year to prepare it for those two weeks (and people can't play regurarly on it for the rest of the year). So it's not economical for the organisers to keep a lot of grass courts.

Yes that's true. I think that's one of the important reasons that there are so few grass tournaments.

Apparently Eleni is playing the Hastings Direct Championship this year! I'm surprised, I thought she would defend her Ordina title, but I've just read (on the BBC 'ceefax') that she's playing at Eastbourne!
