She is a contender for French Open no doubt ...but I really don't see her getting #1 b/c she doesn't have the game really on other surfaces to beat the top players.

hopefully after beating clijsters on clay justine will have gotten past her mental barrier against playing kim. what i mean is hopefully justine will now go on and beat kim on other surfaes besides clay her #1 surface. i'm actually starting to think that justine is a contender for the #1 ranking or at least #2 because for now serena is to far away in points but i think she will come back to the field or come part way back to the field. i'm hoping beating kim has helped her with her overall mental game rather than just the part about playing kim. but she does need to improve on the other surfaces.

well, already being a finalist at Wimbeldon, winning a Tier II on hardcourt over Capriati Myskina and Seles, and reaching the SF of Australian Open, I can't see how you can say she's not even a contender on other surfaces...sure she's not a contender against the Williams or Kim on hardcourt...but I'd give her good chances Indoor, Grass, and Rebound Ace

everyone says she is bad on hardcourts but she's certainly in the top 10 for hardcourts. she really isn't as bad as everybody thinks.

She only looks bad on hard court when facing the William sisters.:worship:

I dont want to put a damper on Justines win, but she was lucky, even she said it herself. She did go on a mental holiday toward the end of the second set, a set she should have won 6-1.

I think Justine can make the top, as long as she improves her hardcourt game. On clay she takes her time mixes it up which mean she can play the likes of Kim and the Williams'. However on hardcourt she just seems to lash out at the ball, and try to keep up with them.

Yeah... I mean at the WTA Champs... and Sydney... especially if its a slower hardcourt, like on the RA, or the that damn court in the staples centre.

I'd love to see it, and hey she certainly is a contender in a rankings kinda way (#4 in the world is pretty good in my book)...but as others have pointed out, she is going to have to beat the big girls on all surfaces on a consistent basis for that to happen.

One step at a time is all I ask..;)

Good luck Miss Henin!

'Top 10 on US hardcourts' is significantly worse than what Justine is everywhere else, i.e. probably the no 1 clay player in the world, the third best grass court player and the fourth best Rebound Ace and indoors player.

yeah i lkie Henin but I don't see her getting close to no 1 after clay and grass.. coming harcourt, she had to compet with williams sisters which is simply amazing.. jen cap and lindsay!!

But I really hope to see her to win RG!! :worship:

I don't think that she is the "4th best on rebound ace" I would say that Kim LIndsay, Jen, Serena & Venus r all betta than her there!!1

I dont understand why a one lucky win over Lindsay makes her better than Lindsay!!!!!

i would say she is very even with lindsay actually because her other losses to Lindsay were very close and not on her favorite surfaces and then she did beat Lindsay on Rebound Ace so if they played more often against each other on more varied surfaces they would be closely matched.

still a lot of people doubt justine's capability to be #1. I think too hard this year, but she will one of this years.

Lindsay+Jen=Not better then Justine on any surface besides perhaps US Hardcourts...the only people better then Justine on any surface besides US Hardcourts is Kim Serena and Venus (and Kim only for RA and indoor, perhaps) And on clay she is more likely to win then a williams sister I think, so numer 1 on clay....grass she is better then Kim and almost as good as the W/S

Sit Back and Watch people :p

Justine will open wide your eyes that she can do it! Go Juju! ;)

I know she wouldn't do it this year as Serena still 3000 pts ahead of her, but you never know, she (Serena) might lose early @ RG, Wimbledon or US Open :D as now we've already seen that half part of Williamses is lost a bit of her fighting spirit and not competing enough :D

"half part of Williamses is lost a bit of her fighting spirit and not competing enough "

Wishful thinking. Justine number one? I doubt if that will happen w/Venus and Serena still on the tour.

Almost as good as Venus on grass...NOT. There records on ea. surface speak for themselves.

Serena is the Queen for as long as she's determined to be the Queen.

Justine won't be the next strong contender for #1. She hasn't proven anything in the slam department yet.. I say Lindsay or Venus.

If Venus played a full schedule like she did last year (or she got pretty close at least), she would be the next contender for number one. She would also have to look at Serena like a little poisoned worm that needs to be squashed, instead as her little loving sister.

In the meantime, Kim has the guns to get there. Clearly Justine can't beat number 1,2 and 3 on a surface other than clay. They keep outhitting her left and right. But, she can beat anybody else on any surface, she has proven that, so number 4 seems to be her place.... for now. Unless she proves us all wrong this year, which could happen, why not?

I think its too early to elect a number one contender as of the moment. Serena is too far ahead to chase. And if there is someone who will gonna take that, I will still go for someone who were once there before like Venus and Lindsay.
They know what it takes to get back on top.

I have thought for the past two years that Justine can definitely get a slam or two in her career. not sure whether she can contend for #1, she might if circumstances fall her way, hold it for a small amount of time..

but unfortnately for her, clay is just not enough of the WTA schedule and that is certainly her best surface.

good for her for continuing to improve and work on her game. she certainly has taken many steps forward, and some steps back trying to work on her game. I admire her for working so hard to improve and continue to contend.

I would love to see her in the French open final...

I think she can become number 1 shes been training very hard and improved on hardcourts so whos to say she wont improve even more. And to say she can t beat kim venus or serena on any other surface is just silly - she beat Kim on grass , took venus to three sets at wimby , I think she'll have a good US open this year :)

Hardcourts are her worst surface no doubt about it but just this year in the last two hard courts she played she won one and made it to the quarter finals of the other. I'd say that is very big improvement over a first round loss last few years.

Improving is the best thing she can do right now. I mean what does it say about Justine when she can have first round loss on a hardcourt and still be no. 4 over Capriati and Lindsay, both very good on all surfaces, Lindsay showed us this year that she is now back on the clay game. I have no doubt in my mind that if Justine continues on this path of determination that she can very well win the US Open in 2-3 years time.
