I'm sure I recall reading somewhere that a loss doesn't count if you play 3 sets against Capriati they day before. That gives you fair reason to be "tired", even if its your first tournament in weeks.

Yeah, I've heard that 'rule' too... come to think of it.... I envoke the 3-Set-The-Day-Before-Versus-Capriati Rule.

(great job Justine, btw!)

A match isn't determined by who hits most winners.

A free pass? For what?

Please she is the great white hope who can take out the Williamses and end their domination with the help of her Belgium sister, she can do it and the world will be fine once again for everyone.....Go Kim (get your ass beaten).

True!
I'm SURE Serena hit MORE winners than Kim, even in a match she lost.

The UFE's were the determining factor. Some were just Serena being Serena, trying to end points quickly. But MANY were caused by Kim's excellent play that day. FORCED errors are many times listed as UNFORCED. I saw the match, Kim played very well. I also agree that Serena's struggle vs Jennifer is no excuse.

For God's sake Serena played THREE matches in 36 hours in Montreal 2001, and WON! (Monica, Justine and Jennifer. Tired doesn't work!

Thats funny because I read somewhere that a loss in a grandslam final doesnt count if you play one sister in the semis and then lose to the other in the final...

funny. just a few days ago you posted that clijsters is a "considerably better" player than capriati (your words), and you were jeering at anyone who dare predicted capriati to win over clijsters, because clijsters is so much better, blah blah blah.

and now this. why would a "considerably" better player win 6-4 in the THIRD SET and be TIRED the next day??????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????

Sorry, you are so far behind everyone else in this thread. Congrats to Jenny on giving her best anyhow.

The way I put it and saw it to be is simple....Kim got the footprint...in her ass....justine is to me the better player. Her shots are awesome and now that she is over the mental thing with Kim and the williamses, we are in for a JuJu rule....she is the real challenger to the williamses cos she is the only one to hand them a defeat more than once in the last 18 months when the domination started......I think Justine is the one to watch out for.....boy what marriage can do for some people.....

Maybe Lindsay will come back and defeat the sisters to win wimbly.....I'll be damned.

Very funny, DH...... but I think you have to have played an excessive amount of matches during the year.... like say 10.... and come off a 3 or 4 week layoff feeling like you are 95 years old.. to claim that exemption. :)

You may well be right. Justine has the kind of game that can throw Venus and Serena off. She can mix up the shots and add power when she needs it. I don't think matching Serena power for power is the ticket. Now that she is mentally stronger, she can be a real challenger. It was a big deal for her to win against Kim. But I'm sure they will continue to trade matches.

But, like I thought, they both left their hearts out on the court. That's what fans want to see in a rivalry... not.. If I couldn't win, I'm glad she won... That's not the stuff rivalries are made of. It's Borg and Connors... You know players who are so very different... contrasts make for the rivalries.
