I think she felt something in her thigh..but the tape was just precaution imo :) it seemed as if the tape annoyed her more then the injury ;)

She didn't fake it, you saw it from the middle of the first set that there was something wrong. It obviously stopped bothering her in the third.
Kim would never do something like that

She came back and won like 3 or 4 stright games in a row with an injured thigh. Go figure.

yeah, after Justine was leading 4-1 she won those games, not immediately after she had her leg taped. I don't see what winning 4 games in a row after laying a precautionary bandage has to do with faking

May 11th, 2003, 04:30 PM
From the 1st change over, she was already stretching and looking painful to Marc and her physio.
The only reason she won the 2nd set is because she played all or nothing and Justine made a lot of errors at that moment. I don't think it had any influence on the match.

I hope she gets better soon!

Yep, pratically the whole of Australia and the commentators were suggesting that Serena fake her injury when we all saw the blisters on Serena's foot. But you would not hear them say Kim fake this injury, oh no never, that could never be plausible coming from Kim but I guess because it's was a Williams it would be plausible. Double standards will never go away.

Dunno, there's a lot of support for Justine too. Kim has kind of another personality and I think that's why she maybe has more fans in Belgium. It's so diffcult to dislike someone who's always happy and friendly and very open towards other people, no?
Anyway, I like Justine too, and I'm happy she's won this match. Don't spoil it for her by making threads like these.

How can you know that Kim is more fun off the court, have you ever met her in person! She just handles pr better (leaves the nasty comments to her father) and speaks fluent english.
And Justine always enters a tournament with a "healthy" lip and usually develops a cold sore towards the end. That's because her intensity and nervousness imo. When she serves, I noticed that she always sticks her tongue out the corner of the mouth (lol). Big deal, as long as she wins, I'm ok. ;)

I am not a Kim hater, I just think that Belgium is unfair towards Justine. I also hope Justine wins a GS before Kim. It is just like the Americans are against V&S. I read somewhere where Justine is from "the not so good part of Belgium" in other words she is lower class and Kim is suppose to be Middle class. I am just telling you what I read. Go on Justine show Beligum you are 10 times better than Kim. And by the way I am not a fan of Justine I just do not like the way the Belgiums treat her, after all she is also contributing to the wealthness of the country not just Kim. As a matter of fact Kim wants to disown the country because of taxes I don't hear Justine complaining about paying her taxes to a country which has done so much for her. I would say Kim can be consider pretty ungreatful and avaricious.

Of course Justine does not get any attention, because she is not complaining about her taxes. You could roll your eyes as much as you want Beligum is not fair to Justine and you know it. Coming within two points does not say much for her she could not even close it out, so if I was you I would not mention that. It seems as though she has been a teenager forever is she still one shaking up with Hewitt. I do not think teenagers should be shaking up. As for personalities everyone is different we can't all have the same personality if we did this world would be darn boring.

Well, last year Serena had her thigh strapped and lost to Justine. Hmmm... Justine now has back to back titles here.

In the following Italian Open, Serena met Justine, and BOTH players had wrapping on one of their thighs, and Serena won.

These were two GREAT competitive finals.

I get annoyed that the Williams sisters are ALWAYS accused of faking injuries.
I ALSO get annoyed when OTHER players are accused of faking injury.

Serena was accused of gamesmanship when she got the double timeout in the AO vs Kim. At the time Kim was leading 2-1 in the third.

After this calculated move by Serena, Kim went on to lead 5-1. This worked pretty good.

THEN Serena went on to win the final SIX games of the match, I guess it was a delayed reaction.

Worth noting, however, is that this injury for Serena ACTUALLY occured in her FIRST round match vs Liot. Keen observers should have noticed that this blister was already taped and the pad that surrounded it had slipped and was causing discomfort. Serena merley had it retaped and a new pad installed. This injury was not affecting Srerna's play, Kim had done that, but Serena was able to improve her game enough to win.

Bottom line, this timeout had NO EFFECT on the outcome of the match. Likewise with Kim and Justine.

If Justine does get attention in Vlaanderen, it usually has some negative connotation with it. That's the problem! One example: after the Fed Cup a paper wrote that Kim was pleasing the public and Justine wasn't by letting Els play the second singles match. It was very clear that Els deserved and wanted to play. I bet if Justine did play that match, she would be called unfair. Also there were some negative comments about the choice of surface. When Justine wanted to play on clay, it was like "How does she dare!?". But when it was over, they were all like "it was a very good choice to play on clay IN the clay season". Even Kim (whose "camp" was one of the critics) said afterwards it was a very good preparation for the clay season.

You need to look at it the other way around too. I watched RTBF two years ago just before the RG semi final and they were doing a Justine special...no Kim special...and when they played at the OZ last year they were rooting for Justine too...and so on..
we have a luxury problem in Belgium :D TWO top players....we should be happy and stop wining about the amounts of attention ;) They both make the headlines when they're doing great :bounce:

Yep that's true... We are too spoilt, we should be happy that we have those too ;)
I admit Kim gets more attention here in Vlaanderen than Justine, but that's not her fault. When she wins the master right before they chose who will win be the sportwoman of the year 2002 and too, it's normal that she wins it...

I think it has become a pattern for me that after a player injures, she loses a game or two and then starts to come back(probably due to his/her determination and goes for winners). The same to Justine in AO against Lindsay. The difference is Justine is really determined not to let it slips away from her this time.

Well, last year Serena had her thigh strapped and lost to Justine. Hmmm... Justine now has back to back titles here.

In the following Italian Open, Serena met Justine, and BOTH players had wrapping on one of their thighs, and Serena won.

These were two GREAT competitive finals.

I am a pretty honest person. I do not care about second, first, or third seed at RG. I wanted Jen to win this tournment she has not won in a long time and believe it or not I do like Jen and she was the only American left in the tournment. Seeding is not a big deal with the sisters they know what they have to do to get to where they want to be and they will do it. One hump in the road is not going to stop the sisters all of you guys should know that by now. I would not even care if Venus did not play in the FO this year and her ranking dropped because she will get her ranking back in no time. The have already made history, they have made it to four GS, they will be in the HOF, they will be in the history books what more can a Williams fan ask for.

"She was taking it too far," said Henin. "I was injured, too, with a sore shoulder, but I didn't make a song and dance of it.

"She asked for the physio a second time at 4-1. She was almost crying and I thought for sure she was going to retire

"It was partly tactics - and it flustered me. At 6-5, she was making one winning shot after the other. If you're injured as badly as she was making out, you can't do that."

What's wrong with Kim getting more attention? She's been having the better career and won big titles. It's just natural a better player gets more attention. Clearly the starter of this thread is angry with Kim for an obvious reason. He or she is scared that Kim may put an end of the Williams domination. It's so pathetic and sad indeed. You can't affect or change people's liking one player better than another. If Kim is more popular than Justine, just let it be. Everything you have said here is a bunch of premature assumptions. None of the stuff you have said is even worth taking seriously. Your hate for Kim is just too obvious to read your posts rationally. You are just unfair and before accusing people of being unfair towards the Williams sisters, you had best check yourself in the mirror. you seem to have some serious mental illness if you ask me. The reason why many people accused Serena faking an injury at the AO wasn't hate for her...I mean some people may have blamed her due to hate..but her NOT faking it wasn't as clear as Kim's today. It's no good under any circumstances to accuse someone of faking something without any clear evidence and if you (leslie) accuse people who denounced Serena, you should act like a role model instead of doing the same as the losers you refer to. What you are doing here is just plain childish and you should have loads of better things to do in life shouldn't you?

It's no good under any circumstances to accuse someone of faking something without any clear evidence and if you (leslie) accuse people who denounced Serena, you should act like a role model instead of doing the same as the losers you refer to. What you are doing here is just plain childish and you should have loads of better things to do in life shouldn't you?

Role Model, get your own damn role model you people get on this board and put down V&S and when people strike back you get all "defensive" like Kim's game. People in glass houses should not throw stones. I wonder if when Kim went for the injury time out today if the people in the crowd yelled "get on with it" or if the commentators (Mary Carillo) talk crap about gamesmanship. Give me a break the same way you dish it out you should be able to take it.

I speak the truth. Kim is no threat to the W/S. As I said before Serena embrassed her at NASDQA and the AO and Venus kicked her butt in her own back yard where is the threat. You tell me. Yea, I do have serious mental illness maybe you could help me out with some of your lithium and paxil.

I think your problem is inability to accept the reality that is of course your favorite players ain't as popular as you think they should be. Unfortunately there are a lot of things you can't control in life. You shouldn't even try to affect those things that are impossible to change. As for Kim's edge over Justin in the popularity department, it's just the fact and I see nothing wrong with it.. You don't have to be the best to be the most popular do you? Look at Anna K. She's far more popular than most of the players ranked above her. In the case of Kim and Justine, your theory is totally wrong as Kim is clearly the better player when you look at their rankings. We can't really say which girl is the better one just by looking back on the few past months. Everyone has ups and downs to a varying degree. Justine is clearly on an up now.
By the way, it's so childish of you to root for Justine just because Kim is getting undeserved attention from the press cuz it's not her fault in the slightest. You are clearly directing your hate at someone who doesn't deserve it. You may act whatever way you want but as long as you act like you have here, nothing you say is worth replying (damn...that's exactly opposite to what I'm doing...heck)

"That damned strained thigh"

I've just put some ice on my thigh. It turned out to be strained. But we'll only be sure tomorrow, when I've had some reast and when I can carefully try again. I felt it during the fifth game against Justine. After a forehand I went to the net, I pushed myself backwards again and I felt something in my thigh, I kept on feeling it. And it bothered me evry time I wanted to go full for a shot. But I certainly don't want to spoil Justine's victory by stating this!

She was playing very well today. I didn't expect to come back from that 1-4 score in the second set. But for a moment Justine wasn't that aggressive and I started to serve better and that's why the score improved. The third set was very close, for example, at that second match ball where I hit the ball only 2cm out. But...that's what tennis is like.

And then the doubles final. I hoped to have some fun and it wouldn't have been fair to Ai if I withdrew. But in the third set it was very hard for me. After all, I was on the court for ten hours on Saturday and Sunday. Maybe I'll withdraw from the doubled in Rome, but it will depend on how my thigh feels.

A little word about the match against capriati: that match gave me a very good feeling. I'm sure it was one of my best matches on clay this season. And there the scenario was the opposite of today: I spoilt also some match points in the second set, but in the third set I managed to close out the match.
Now I need to eat something 'cause I haven't had anything yet today and tomorrow I'm off to Rome.

I am glad Justine kicked Kim's butt because Belgium act as though Kim is the only tennis player there. They never pay attention to Justine like they do to Kim. Congrats Justine.

Really? I think Kim only gets so much attention because she is Lleyton's girlfriend, I think Justine gets more attention tennis wise.

And this is suppose to convince me. I saw Serena's bilsters that was proof right there as a matter of fact millions of people saw them only the Australians and Kim's fans and the two female commentators refuse to see the bilsters. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words apparently not for the Aussie and kim's fans when it's dead smack in front of their eyes.

Kim's movement was poor in the second set! No question, then Justine went all defensive for some reason, I dont know why, and Kim's adrenaline must have carried her. Kim was not herself in the movement stakes in the second game.

How many people accused Serena of faking her blisters? And don't go telling me everybody without an ounce of proof... the complaint that I heard/read during/after that match was the amount of time that Serena took for her injury timeout and take subject can be endlessly debated without anybody finding a clear cut answer because there is none. I don't think I've ever come across anybody who actually said Serena faked blisters though!

I believe that most of the people who accused Serena of faking an injury at the AO were the usual suspects, the Williams haters. I don't believe that too many of Kim's true fans accused her of such. The real Kim fans and not those who suddenly became her fan when she beat the Williams sisters last year, are a very classy bunch and usually give credit where credit is due just like Kim herself.

Kim faking an injury ??

HAHAHAHA!!!

Kim is well known on the tour for her GREAT GAMEMANSHIP !!! She already received awards for being so nice off and on the court!

I think some people are scared because she improved a lot last year and because she is a big threat for every player right now! Probably, Justine will be the next victim for those people, because she won 3 tournaments already and she defeated Serena in 2003! Justine, you are warned!

BTW: Kim 's injury was real, she will probably pull out for doubles in Rome! Her leg is taped and she has to use a lot of ice right now, I hope for her it will become better soon!

I haven't read this entire thread (maybe later). But I will say this: I think we all know that players use injury time outs/bathroom breaks to break the other player's momentum at one time or another, whether they have an injury/have to potty or not. Every case is up for debate, which I guess you all are doing here but nothing can be proved one way or the other. These players are competitors and will do almost anything, in most cases, to win. Bathroom breaks/injury timeouts are within the rules, so if a player is faking an injury or doesn't really need a bathroom break but just wants to use the time to regroup, the rules allow it and I don't have a problem with it. Is it right that players do this? No. But it's something that cannot be proved one way or the other when suspicion arises so it's just part of the game. The players know this and so should we.

I also know that people love their faves and all but anytime someone says something like, "Oh so and so player would NEVER do such a thing" I always flash back to the news when there's a murder and the crime committer's family is like, "My son/brother/sister would NEVER do something like this" right down to his or her trial and conviction. A murder comparison is a stretch I know but it's the first thing that comes to mind. Point is NO ONE knows what a player might or might not do on the court, let alone their own family members.
[/serious MarcusRock point of view]

Now all of you get back to fighting immediately. I'm entertained by such things.

someone should start a "Venus faked injury in Warsaw" and see how their speech is allowed to be free

Williams fan shouldnt mean hypocrite baby :)

Nice try, but no dice. Venus retired in her match. She never recovered from the injury. Clijsters came back to win 16 straight points after her injury to go up 5-4 in the second set. She had 3 match points in the third, but couldn't convert. In Henin, Davenport, and Serena's cases they all came back to win the match which is why they were being accused of faking injury. Personally I don't like to thin anyone is faking injuries. Don't bring Venus into this to try and make your weak point.

You're so right. You could clearly see that she was hampered in her movement. She couldn't run down the drop shots of Justine.

I'v seen a real change in the posts. Kim is being bashed massively. When she was number 5-6 that was not the case.

Both are battling for the top spot in the Champions Race (together with Serena) and it seems as if a lot of people are not that happy with that. Personally I never thought they had a chance of becoming number one, but if Serena gets an injury, it seems a certainty that Justine or Kim will become the next number one.

I'm not amused.

I dont believe a word of it.

You have never been to Belgium. Otherwise you wouldn't post this BS.

I am certain that you don't know shit about Belgium.

For eg. In 1850 Belgium was the second richest country in the world (behind England, but before the USA).

The Belgians are the richest in the world (especially the Flemish) and have the lowest rate of poverty. The average fortune of a Belgian is 130.000 euro. A family of four has a average fortune of more than 500.000 euro (the highest in the world). Belgium has the highest productivity in the world and the Belgians save the highest percentage of their income (together with the Japanes and the Italians - 5 times as much as the Americans). They have one of the best social security systems in the world. I wouldn't want to live in the USA, where a great number don't have medical insurance.

Are an idiot? Because I say I would not go back to Belgium you are saying I have never been there. For your information I have travelled throughout Europe and Belgium was not one of my favorites. I do not care how rich the country is it is just not a favorite of mine. Keep your history to yourself I am not interested.

you're all as bad as each other. the fact that this thread is already at 5 pages is a sad indictment of the posters on this board. why don't all the williams fans and kim fans put each other on ignore, and just allow the rest of us to enjoy this board for a few days without these threads which just say the same thing over and over and over and over again. do any of you think that you might ever reach the point where you'll decide that you have had enough? if so please let me know.

Why are you adding to the five pages. Just get off the board.
