A great match it was :bounce: Especially at the end! Great tennis by both players hitting the lines lots of times :D And Justine's serve who helped her eliminating 2 of the 3 MP Kim had. This is the kind of tennis I like to see :D

Well done Justine!!!

Wish I could've seen the match...

Good for Justine. Kim owns her on hard courts, that much is clear. But once on clay, it's a different story. What confidence in herself Justine must have right now.... can't wait for the French.

Congrats justine. Good to see her tough it out after she let go of the 6/4 4/1 lead. Such are the moments that prepare champions and justine imo is not just a contender for Rg but the TOP CONTENDER for the title. Good fight, if only i could see this, in whatever language, anyone got it on tape?
Once again CONGRATULATIONS. Way to defend your title! :bounce:

yes, a match stats would be really good. it seems like a really high level of tennis with a lot of winners insted of ue according to the reports by a poster. but regardless, i am so happy for justine having won her third tier 1 tournament and the second of the year. good luck in rome justine and you're on your way as the french open champion!

This is an amazing result especially since Justine blew so many chances and then was behind almost all of the third set. She really showed more of that grit, mental toughness and self-belief. LOVE YA JUJU-GURL!!!!

OMG!!!!! I am actually crying!!!! Crying!!! Juju has done so many amazing things this year!!!!! Beating Lindsay 9-7 in the third with cramps in OZ, winning Dubai beating Cappy and Seles back to back late in third sets, defeating Monica on clay, stopping Serena's winning streak, winning two Tier 1's with great wins over Mauresmo and now this incredible finals over Kim Clijsters!!!!!!! you are the best JUJU!!!!
I had to quote this from treufreund :worship:

Actually, that would be in the semis and the semis are enough for Kim to be #2 (I think even the quarters would be enough  ). So normally it will be a 50% chance for an all-Williams/all Belgian final

Giving away a 4-1 lead in the 2nd set: something I am already used to.
Saving 3mp's to take the title: behold the new Justine!

Congrats Justine. Kim had 3 mps at 5-4, probably losing them demoralised her a little and she put up little resistance in the last couple of games.

wow what a match! In the beginning it was really boring, many mistakes on both sides, but Justine was the better player. Then Kim seemed to be injured, she was off the court for three minutes and after that Justine was up to 4-1. But then, unbelievable, kim came back and won that set! I thought, "oh no, there we go again, Justine will let it go and lose self-confidence!". But she didn't. The last set was soooo strong. They were both really good. I'm kind of "mad" at kim for giving away those three match points, so Justine deserved to win it all! Congratz, girl!

CONGRATULATIONS JUSTINE :D

I didn't know Justine 3 saved matchpoints until after the match was over, all I knew was Justine held serve to level 5-5.
I was worried after the second set but Juju fought hard and was rewarded. Excellent work JUJU

:bounce: Way to go, Justine!!! :bounce:

I was going to pieces when Kim won the second set and when she had her 3 match points. I was already thinking what they would tell in the Flemish newspapers and TV.

But she won!!! And no comments now. She deserved a win over Kim. Eventhough it was so close that neither was clearly better. Justine proved tha she's metally stable. Now Kim begins to have problems .. I hope for her they are over soon (unless she palys against JuJu of course ;) ).

Justine made those points...no need for a shrink...it's not like she doublefaulted or made some horrible mistakes or anything :) It was a match determined by only a couple of points...could have gone either way :)

Congrats Justine :D
and go Kim please make the SF at Rome ;):)

yeah but it still the third time and yesterday she also lost the second set after matchpoints.

it's never wrong to work on it. Justine did it and see what happened to her this year:)

Well yeah but missing by a couple of centimetres ain't choking ;) If she would have hit a homerun on it...then we might have a problem ;):o

Oh well off course irma it ain't bad to work on it but I don't think it would do any good to Kim...I believe she became the top player she is now at this very young age because she has that great mentality...very mature already...If she starts working with a shrink, she might become too aware of the mental aspect in tennis...not good imo.

Justine Henin-Hardenne fought off three match points to become the first player in nine years to defend the German Open title.

She beat fellow Belgian and top seed Kim Clijsters 6-4 4-6 7-5 to claim her third event of the year.

The pair, warming up for the French Open starting on 26 May, had never faced each other before in the final of a major event.

By reaching the final, Clijsters had already done enough to regain the world number two spot she briefly lost to Venus Williams.

"The next goal is the French Open, but I just have to stay cool," said Henin-Hardenne. "Last year I was a favourite, too, then I lost in the first round."

Both players struggled to hold serve in the first set, Henin-Hardenne opening up a 3-0 lead before Clijsters fought back to level it at 3-3.

Henin-Hardenne managed the telling break in the ninth game and then served for the set, taking it with her opponent hitting a backhand into the net.

Clijsters received medical treatment before the second set began and returned with a bandage around her upper left thigh.

The two traded breaks again early in the second set before the 20-year-old Henin-Hardenne broke her 19-year-old opponent twice more to move 4-1 up.

Clijsters responded by taking the next five games to level the match.

The decisive set was a tight affair, with Henin-Hardenne eventually claiming the title on her second match point.

"My leg hurt a little, but these are matches I really enjoy. I don't like it when it's easy," said Clijsters.
