What the hell is the matter with Jen she can't seem to win a tournment all this training she is doing and it is not getting her anywhere. In her entire tennis career she has only 13 or 14 tournments, that leaves one to wonder if thoes 3 GS were flukes. God forbid a match goes to 3 sets it is inevitable she will lose. Could it be because she is getting older she is losing her stamina? or is it that she has self belief that she can be a top 5 player. Jen what is happening to you? why can't you make it to a final? I don't want her to beat the W/S but I want her to beat everyone else. She was the only American left and I was routing for her come on Jen, pull it together bring that fire back and kick some foreign butt. I kow you can do it.

Jen should have never said in public that she gets nervous playing the top player. If I read that wrong please correct me. But I think that is what I read earlier on this week.

Two of the GS went to three sets. I don't think it's the fitness, or stamina, it's all mental. If you mentally beat yourself up, it doesn't matter how fit you have become, you're just not going to pull it out.

What can Jen do to get over this mental lapse against the top 5. She needs to do something really fast. I so wanted her to win this weekend being she was the only American left.

leslie--i MAY be wrong (though i don't think so), but your supposed "concern" for jen and your "desire" for her to win this tourny really comes off as fake, forced, and rhetoric. what do you mean "all this training that's getting her nowhere"??? 5 semi's in a row is HARDLY nowhere. it's a heck of a lot better than YOU will ever do, that's for sure.

and 3 grandslams a fluke?? i know you wish it was but honey open your eyes and use that thing between your ears called a brain---NO FUCKING WAY. winning one grand slam MAY be a fluke (though beating everyone at a tourny of 2 weeks really is fluke-proof), but THREE GRAND SLAMS A FLUKE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! are you outta your mind!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!? apparently you don't play tennis--or else you'd KNOW THREE GRAND SLAMS can't be a fluke. hell she beat serena williams to get one of those 3 slams . how can that be a fluke??

you are such a hater of capriati. you can't even get ewnough of just hating, you have to pretend to like her and tear her down in the process, disguising your hate with fake concern. pitiful.

of course, i *could* be wrong. you might *really* be concerned.

but i REALLY doubt it.

Whether you want to believe it or not I am concern about Jen. She has hired a new trainer and her stamina is still not good for a 3 setter. If I hated Jennifer I would come right out and say it I do not have to hide anything. Heck this is a message board why would I have to pretend. As I said before, I would rout for Jen when she is not playing a W/S if she is playing anyone else I am behind her 100%. I do hate her behaviour and if she says something about anyone that I do not agree with I will type my opinion and god for bid if she says anything remotely negative about the sister I will voice my opinion 2 folds. They are boards where I have read negative things about Jen which I do not agree with and will voice my opinion on that also. I am not going to be like the fans that Jen has who in so many threads state everything she does is right.

I could almost feel Jen's pain, do you know what it is like playing your heart out and finding it difficult to reach your goal. Anyone who does not feel that pain for Jen has no heart. In-spite of everything you said I still wish she would have won this weekend.

yeah, wtf is up with Jen? It's really irritating me. The only final she made was at Miami and unfortunately for her, it was against Serena.

I'm really starting to root for Jen because this streak of hers is ridiculous. She can train all she wants but she needs to get that 2001 fire. Actually, you could say the same for Venus. It's like, Serena, Kim and Justine are the only ones alive in the top ten. The others are just floating. It's starting to piss me off.

I think Jen needs to beat a top 5 player and win any tourn so she can get the hunger and mental strenght that she is lacking back!
Good luck for Rome Jen!

Something else you must keep in mind:

The top 5 in 2003 play at a much higher level than the top 5 of 1991-1992. It's more difficult to two win a lot of titles now. Look at Lindsay Davenport for example.. although she's struggled due to injury and surgery, she's not won as many titles as she did earlier in her career.

Serena and Venus have both raised the bar so high that the other girls, even outside of the top 5, can compete at a high level as well. While Jennifer and other top players struggle to beat a lower ranked player, this probably wouldn't have been the case 10 years ago.

The level is higher now.. thus making it harder to win a title. It's as simple as that. I have no doubt that Jennifer would have more titles under her belt if she was playing this way 10 years ago.

Hmm..... I think we - Jen's fans really want (or desperate for  ) her to win another tournament title!!!

But all the other players like Justine, Kim and Amelie, they are all getting better and with more experience now... So the field is gonna be tougher for Jen than two years ago!! :o

I still believe in Jen!! She is gonna to win a title this year!! :)

I agree w/ Cari AGAIN (stop stealing all my posts before I can write them out)

Kinda hard to root against a player when they are in a rut. She seems to have changed her attitude and I hope she can win a title soon!!

How has Jen not improved? I see improvement in Jen's game. She has worked on her serve quite a bit. She aced Serena a couple of times in the NASDQA final and she had a lot of spin on the ball. I think she needs to go a little bit more for the angles. When Jen played Lindsey she should have won that match but she kept hitting the ball back to Lindsey, she has to learn to move Lindsey around the court make her run because when Lindsey is running she is losing (M. Carrillo) and that is so true. Kim sure did that to Lindsey and S&V does it also, why can't Jen do the same. She has to learn to play smarter. She should never have lost to Kim. In my opinion Kim is not that great a player. Jen needs to stop letting the top players intimidate her.

Actually.

If you all bothered to look instead of just bitching about her, you would realise that Jen isn't a big tournament winner. Even in her early career. So yeah, this is a drought, but she's up there in the QF, SF and Fs most of the time. This year has been interupted through a nightmare off season, but she's coming back on track. Lets see how she does on clay, which is her best surface.

13 career tournament wins.

2001 was an above average year, obviously.

All she needs is one win over a top 5 player and she will be back on top. Fitness and skill wise, she is even with Justine, and Kim, and Serena, etc... She just needs the confidence roll she had in 2001 and the titles will come.....

Most Williams fans wanted Jen to beat Kim in the SF's of the German Open (so that Venus had a better chance of being the # 2 seed at RG) and hence their concern . Jennifer lost and now Kim looks likely to get the coveted # 2 seed and hence the frustration. I don't think they are really all that bothered about Jen

Gosh that was easy :p

 Firstly, I don't think it's a "bother", but, more or less a "concern" about the level of her play...!!! But, again, are you now Ms. Cleo, and can "see" and "know" what Williams' fans think????

And too, "YOU", my dear seem "overly" concerned about the No.2 seeding, as if it "guarantees" a win for Kim. Believe you me, it'll take her 7 wins to "hoist" the trophy, as it will whoever the winner is.

Secondly, for someone who's just beginning to post here, you've certainly done "precious little" to "endear" yourself to other posters!!!

 Can you please use your "psychic talents" to give me the numbers for the million dollar lottery...???

In my humble opinion, with others can feel free to disagree with, she needs a new coach. she needs someone to focus on STRATEGY and how to develop and execute a game plan. Jen is a fabulous athlete and a terrificlly talented tennis player - that you can say about most everyone in the top 10. sometimes what I feel that separates jen from the top 5 these days is her THINKING on the court, or lack thereof. I'm not saying at all that she is stupid, I just think she relies too too much on her instincts and her athelticism, and less so on having a game plan and sticking to it. She's a great fighter, but not as great a strategizer on the court.

and I think that some of it comes from having her dad coach her for basically all of her career. I don't think he is going to push her in any new direction. what they have done together has produced 3 GS titles, so they think that they have the formula for success.. but they need to adapt and become smarter as a team. they need to scout opposing players and come up with a strategy that is better than "be aggressive".

Jenn doesn't seem to play with any kind of game plan, except get some balls back. Be aggressive. She doesn't use all of the court, and only seems to go for angles when she needs to make a pass.

I'm a Venus fan, and could careless if she's seeded 2 or 12. I know she's capable of not only winning seven straight matches, but also of beating everyone on the tour. Only those not confident in their favs. worry about draws and seedings.

Anyway you slice it the winner of the French is going to have to go through one or more of the top women.
