Why in both polls on this board was Jennifer Capriati considered more likely to win the Semifinal? Yes, she put up a good fight and showed the whole never-say-die thing and yada yada. But she lost. And why the hell did the majority expect otherwise. You people are supposed to be the smart tennis fans. If this match had been held on November 1 of last year, Kim should have been the favourite. Now, picking Jen as the more likely winner just seems ridiculous.

Why pick a player who is currently the defending champion of nothing, ranked 7th in the world, and 25-10 since the US Open to beat the player who is:

Ranked 3rd in the world, on the verge of retaking 2nd, defending champion of 5 titles, and 52-8 since the US Open.

They've both proven they can play on Clay, so that's not it. What the hell is up?

This just means there were more jen than kim fans who voted. I really wouldn't worry about it :)

um it's just a net poll... wtf?

you could ask the same of the people who root/vote for qualifiers when they face a top ten player, especially Serena. I mean, come the hell on!

People, I for one, thought that Jen was on a roll and Kim didn't look THAT good on clay since this is her first red clay court tournament.

I do like Kim over Jen but I wanted Jen to get the title since Kim already has some. Not that hard to comprehend, really.

Some people just vote for their favourite player. Only people like me who don't care about either have the ability to be neutral ;)

(I voted for Kim)

I'm sure Pam Shriver and MJ Fernandez voted for Kim. They've been worshiping her butt like crazy since last November. (Little secret: I have too, only when I'm not worshiping Venus')

Also, I think there is a big difference between who you think it's going to win it, and who you want it to win. I had all faith in Kim for this match, she is a well deserved number two player in the world :worship:

This just means there were more jen than kim fans who voted.

Exactly, I didn't vote, and If I had I would have voted for Kim. Lots of other Kim fans probably didn't vote either and then factor in a lot of people probably voted for Capriati as they didn't want Kim to get back to #2.

Jennifer lead Kim 3-0 in matches.

Jennifer lead Kim 3-0 in grandslam titles.

Even though Kim right now was playing better, she's the one who had to prove herself against Jennifer.

I forgot to mention, I didn't want an all-belgian final. and I don't think anyone disputed Kim deserving her ranking... *whistles*.

Those player X vs Y poll threads are fun to read after the match is over. I enjoyed those ones a lot:

Heh... so you see, it goes both ways (I'm looking at that Serena-Kim thread, atm). Most people just root for their favourites...which makes me wonder what the hell the point in posting a poll is anyhow? I suppose that it's "fun" for some people...I've sort of made a habit of not reading half of them now, since they are rather redundant.

You are correct on both counts. However, both these things happened when Jen was still winning titles and before Kim became an absolute monster. Lindsay also has 3 Slams, and leads her head to head against Kim. A bright person would look at recent results and realize who to favour in that matchup.

You can make an poll on Anna vs anybody and most fans will pick Anna, but are only wishes.
Kim right now is playing better than Jennifer, people forget Jennifer has not won a title since Aopen 2002, plus she has not been able to beat Davenport, Serena, Venus, Kim or Amelie in latest matches against them. Plus put the fact that she is been losing to lower ranked players does not help Jennifer either. So logically Kim was the huge favorite over Jenn in this match, no matter if Kim had never beaten her before.

I think Kim, is very underestimated by a lot of people in here.
But the most important is that she is not by the players.

It's a simple answer if you think about it... everyone here is stupid except me.

Hey, I would've favoured Kim, but the head2head and the Slam titles advantage could've also made a convincing argument for Jennifer. I can see why people (her fans) would vote for her (want her to win) but I can't see how you can get so riled up about it.

Even though Kim right now was playing better, she's the one who had to prove herself against Jennifer.

That's certainly an explanation.

I (a Kim fan) was worried about the match-up because Kim had never beaten Jennifer.

I didn't vote I think because I am always afraid I might jinx Kim. I thought that this would be Kim's first win over Jen as Kim has improved a lot and Jen hasn't really. Jen has a lot of raw power but she's often hasty and mixes great points with very sloppy ones. Kim has less and less deep lows during a match and plays way more neatly and meticulously these days. I felt that it was Kim's match throughout but she had problems closing it out. It was great to see that she could refocus. Another landmark in Kim's career.
