The seeds for RG are comprise of the rankings after ROME, and here is how the Rome week will begin:

Up to date Top 10
Added Berlin, Subtracting Rome

1 S.Williams 6383
2 V.Williams 4508
3 K.Clijsters 4414
4 J.H-Hardenne 3475
5 L.Davenport 3304
6 A.Mauresmo 2992
7 J.Capriati 2702
8 C.Rubin 2490
9 D.Hantuchova 2462
10 J.Dokic 2242
11 A.Myskina 2078
12 M.Seles 1864

If Kim beats Justine:
1 Serena 6383
2 Clijsters 4659
3 Venus 4508

And since Venus is not playing Rome, she can't pass Kim.

...if Justine beats Kim, Ciljsters can get #2 with approximately a QF in Rome.

Given how consistent Kim is these days, the # 2 seed at RG seems set .

Venus can request a wild card into Rome.

But given that she has lost to Serena in 4 straight finals maybe a SF meeting or different draw will be better.

Venus won't be in Rome as the draw is already out. ;)

Too bad, it would've been more competitive if venus wasnt injured and played at berlin...oh well its still 50/50 chance, if vee is on serenas side, not only will there not be possibility of an all williams final, but also a belgian final...

Yeah, that's true. I don't really care about this 2nd seed. I'm rooting for Justine tomorrow :bounce:

When you ran those numbers, did you take off Kim's 18th and 19th tournaments?

SJW

awww well i still take heart that theres a chance they will be in opposite halves :D

lets hope for the draw to make an all belgian final possible, hey? ;) if Kim is number two, put Venus in her side and lets see her prove it :)

Yes, I factored in 18th event.

She loses 200 points from 02 Rome, but add 48 as her 18th best.

Thanks Seles. :)

I just didn't want to get my hopes up.

It will be tough for Kim to win tomorrow, but I hope she does it. Just getting to the final was important, but if she wins, it takes off some of the pressure at Rome.

I think even if she loses tomorrow, she should be able to pull at least a QF in Rome.

i dont think venus really cares that much. she probably just wants to win, regardless of what seed she is

I think the wiliams sisters and teh belgium sisters have a better chance of taking the title being on the same side. Im sure Venus wants to avoid Justine who seems like the only person besides serena who can take her out of this slam. and maybe Amelie as of late.

Ok, I was 15 pts off... :) Either way, she's looking good for #2 seed.

justine hasnt won a match against venus since the first time they met, they are tied 1 match all on clay, but venus won the last match on clay...if anything, kim has a lil edge over justine...

 You're all "acting" as if the No.2 seed at Roland Garros guarantees Kim will win it all...!!! And, if it's that you're hoping there won't be a repeat "Sister Act", again, your hopes are a bit "premature"..!!! You'll just have to W - A - I - T and see

 It's good however, that you're all "hoping", 'cause, "hope springs eternal"...!!!

*Here's hoping Venus is in Kim's half of the draw...* :p :p

I got the feeling that Venus going to withdraw from Paris.. i hope i'm wrong!!

starr
May 10th, 2003, 08:25 PM
Why do you have that feeling, rhz?

I have the feeling that she will be there ready to go. She's been injured before and unable to continue in a tournament and then come right back the next tournament and won.

Good for Kim. She's playing like she intends to win Paris whether she's #2 or #2000th seed.

Not that obvious though.. If Kim loses to Justine tomorrow, she'll have to earn about 185 points in Rome, which, with her draw could well mean making a final ( though it is very close, semis could be enough if she beats Myskina or Danilidou in quarters ), which, in turn, would mean beating Justine in Rome.. So Kim probably has to beat Justine in Berlin or in Rome to get #2 seed..:)

You know, even if Kim is the #2 seed, Serena and Venus could still be on opposite sides of the draw.

But that's better. ;) On clay, Justine & Kim can take Venus & Serena any day of the week.

Belgians vs. Williams on clay: 4 wins 2 losses. :)

Venus, Venus, Venus. PLAY MORE TENNIS. lol. That's the only solution I can see.

Venus' body can't handle a lot of tennis, she snaps into a thousand pieces. IMHO Henin is the most physically fit player on tour given how often she can play without being injured.

I could be wrong ...but I don't see Venus as a serious threat for this title, not that I don't want her to win, but given the injury and her performance on clay ...along with other players doing much much better.........should prove interesting though.

oh ye of little faith

Didnt Venus win Wimbledon having only played 9 matches the entire year

she, if playing at 75% will beat anyone not named Williams

You act like her body is like Hingis's. Venus's headset ain't in Australia, her wrist is not in Switzerland, her right ankle is not on a USA hardcourt. Nor is her left ankle in Florida..Oh and her pride is not bashed and scattered in a million pieces on some ski slope either.

Get your broken body right.

ok dawn marie, that was not called for ok. I aint gonna get into an argument over who has the worst broken body but there was no need to bash martina in your attempt to defend venus, it proves absolutely nothing because you're just saying martina has it worst. You never disproved his "venus' body can't handle a lot of tennis".

I agree totally that Venus doesn't need a lot of tennis to hit her peak BUT Roland Garros and Wimbledon are two completely different tournaments.

At Wimbledon Venus can basically overpower anyone bar Serena regardless of her form. The points are quick, rallying is minimal and there are very few genuine grass court players. On clay there are a host of exponents capable of keeping Venus in a rally if she is below her best and neutralising her power for long enough to win.

IMO Venus needs a good preparation to win Roland Garros, she can't just go in there cold and expect to win. Remember Roland Garros 2000 (the tourney before she won Wimbledon)? Arantxa made her look stupid. Remember Roland Garros 2001? She gets rolled by Schett.

You say if she is playing 75% she will beat anyone not named Williams. This may be the case on grass or hardcourt but history has shown that this is not true on clay. Over the past few years when underdone on the red stuff she has lost to Dokic, Jeyaseelan, Coetzer, Henin, Clijsters, Schett, Schwartz just off the top of my head. On surfaces other than clay these players combine for 0 victories against Venus (not counting the 2002 Masters when she retired against Kim). Venus can be troubled by good claycourt players when she is not fully on her game.

Venus will not have played a match on clay for the season when she gets to Roland Garros. I doubt whether a player has ever won the tournament off such a preparation. Now she may be good enough to defy history, but I won't be holding my breath especially with her sister, Henin, Clijsters, Capriati and Mauresmo in ominous form.

Must you bring Hingis into every argument?

The facts are that Venus plays very little. History shows that every time Venus tries to play more her body becomes more injury prone and her game is compromised (eg 98-early 2000). OOOOO's statement was one of fact. History also shows that Venus has been very successful by choosing her tournaments wisely, playing a light schedule, peaking at the right time and minimising her chance of injury (mid 2000-2003). If it works for her and she is comfortable with it, why do you feel so insecure that you have to attack Hingis at every opportunity?

WtaTour4Ever
May 11th, 2003, 08:38 AM
Really I think that Mauresmo and Anna are the most injury prone!! Not trying to bash anyone...does seem unfortunate....then maybe even Seles. Venus has been doing pretty good ...2 minor injuries that I can think of.......

Does anyone actually have stats of tournaments or matches skipped due to injury!!

Kim's seeding at Roland Garros is irrelevant - it doesn't make her any more likely to beat either Williams sister. Anyway, 50% chance that she'll still have to play both of them to win the title.
