Capriati leads 3-0; 1-0 on clay; 0-0 in 2003
1999-11-08 Philadelphia Indoor Carpet R32 Jennifer Capriati (USA) 7-5 6-3
2001-05-28 Roland Garros Clay F Jennifer Capriati (USA) 1-6 6-4 12-10
2002-01-14 Australian Open Hardcourt SF Jennifer Capriati (USA) 7-5 3-6 6-1

Amelie Mauresmo (5) vs. Justine Henin-Hardenne (3)
Mauresmo leads 1-0; 0-0 on clay; 0-0 in 2003
1999-08-30 U.S. Open Hardcourt R128 Amelie Mauresmo (FRA) 6-1 6-4

Jennifer has the edge in H2H, but Kim's playing the best tennis of her life right now. Mauresmo and Henin are almost playing for the first time. So much has happened to both since 99.

I dont think the H2Hs really will be a factor in these matches. I can only really see a Clijsters Henin final here, although, Masuresmo and Capriati do have a good chance if they play a good match.

Jennifer Capriati hasn't beaten an opponent ranked higher than her since 2001 Roland Garros

Its been THAT Long

I know everyone thinks i hate jen, and i really dont but facts are facts

i dont think that fact will change at this tournament
as for justine amelie, thats a tossup edge to justine

Amelie vs Justine  Both are playing so much better than they were in 1999. Both so good on clay, it will come down to the mentally tougher one, still too close to call.
Kim vs Jen. Kim is not the same player who lost to Jen at the AO 01. On the other hand jen could never be discounted. Beginning last year Serena improved so much and no one really challenged her the way jen did. Although she lost, she is the only one who who wnet toe to toe with her. This may just be the case or she may be one of those players Kim has difficulty playing. Slight edge to jen.

So much has happened since the last time the respective players have played against each other that I don't think head-to-heads will count for much. I'd say based on recent form, it'll be an all-Belgian final.

if I just depended on rankings, all-belgian final. but I hope for a Jen and Justy final. The other two matchups have been done to DEATH. :)

Kim has never beat Jen???

They haven't played since January 2002, in AO semis when Cappy then won another slam.

Hoping Kim can get her first win over Capriati, but am not too confident

if the resident experts had to make odds on these matches...who would be the favorite and by how much? i know henin lost to momo way back when but like someone said it was too long ago and it was on clay.

Kim and Justine have both improved a lot since those last matches, so the head to head wont count for anything. I think it'll be a Belgian final. If Kim could take Capriati to 12-10 in 2001, she should be able to win now since shes improved and Capriati is probably not as good now as in 2001.
