THE volatile father of tennis star Jelena Dokic has severed all ties with her, a newspaper said.

"I never want to see (Jelena) again," Damir Dokic told The Sydney Morning Herald from Belgrade.

"She left us. We don't need her."

The paper said Mr Dokic blamed the feud on his 20-year-old daughter's relationship with Brazilian racing car driver Enrique Bernoldi, describing him as "that idiot".

"Everybody says he's a Formula One driver, but he is no-one, nothing. (Jelena) supports him," he told the paper.

Mr Dokic also described his decision to relocate his family from Australia to Serbia and Montenegro in 2001 as his "biggest mistake".

JELENA Dokic admitted she wasn't quite used to being without her father.

Good Riddence.

Maybe Jelena will become a better woman because of this. :)

Damir Dokic is a toad and Jelena is better off without him. I hope this won't affect her as a tennis player cause he really isn't worth the fuss!

I wonder what Father's Day gift Damir will get from Jelena? Honestly, Jelena is much better off. Her father is a complete loser who has done nothing, but sponge off of his daughter's talent. Ironically, Damir has accused Jelena's boyfriend of doing the same. Perhaps Damir is a little peeved that he no longer has a daughter to use and abuse.

I've been in Jelena's situation. She may feel awkward now, but in time, she will be much happier without her father.

oh, but that is sad to hear a father say about his daughter.
I agree that Jelena is better off without her abusive father in the mix. but it must sadden her too, to not have a good relationship with him.

I hope that in the future they are able to have some sort of rapprochement. mainly for Jelena's sake.

I guess the clown has finally realized that the circus has closed and the clown is bitter. I feel for all of them, any family that goes through this kinda drama is always hurting in more ways than one. I think he should have tried to improve her relations with her peers and instead she missed australian open twice cos of him.

I think she should have just played tennis instead of the drama. Now it makes sense as to why she plays so much, it's better than being in that damm house with him for any length of time, huh?

I think that having her father out of her life will be very benificial for Jelena, although I am sure that this has to be very hard for her. However, Damir was more of a liability than a father, because he put so much attention on himself that Jelena had to constantly defend his actions instead of concentrating on her tennis. Now with him out of her life Jelena will hopefully be able to put the focus back on her game and finally perform to her potential. Good luck to her!

WATEVER!!! Damir has given Jelena everything. He gave her life and the skills to play tennis and for Jelena to blow him off and her family for some stupid bernadi bitch is just stupid. I would never do that! Damir did some horrible things but he got her str8 and she was accomplishing a whole lot more than she is with Heinz Gutzhard, which I think she needs to dump (aka 2001 compared to 2003). She said a couple of months, she doesnt have a couple of months because the french open is in 2 week. She cant play like this. I blame it totally on Heinz and Bernadi. And her comments about venus and how her and heinz are trying to work on different attack techniques to compare with the williams sister, Fuck that she cant even beat a top 20 player, thus compete w/Venus or Serena.

i agree completely monicAnna - just because Damir "started Jelena's career" doesnt make it ok for him to say things like "I never want to see (Jelena) again," ABOUT HIS OWN DAUGHTER

You must not be looking at her current results! In 2001, when damir was w/her she won like 3 titles and made the finals of 3. This year she has yet to make it to a final and losing to low calibar players like tulyganova, raymond, danillidu, shaughnessy, and the list goes on

So having better tennis results is a reason to put up with a drunken abusive father who obviously needs serious psychiatric help? Glad to know you have your priorities straight.

Besides, there could be many other reasons for Jelena's lack of success lately. It's unreasonable to assume that Damir's presence is all she needs to play well again. There could be dozens of other factors you're not taking into account, of which none of us knows anything.

Every player goes through slumps. Jelena is no different than anyone else. The players you've listed have actually improved since 2001, so it is not inevitable that Jelena would lose to them at some point in her career. Heck, even Shaughnessy beat Venus this year! What I cannot fathom is why you would want a player to go back to an abusive parent. Damir told the press that he disowned his daughter. What kind of parent does that to his child simply because she is dating someone he doesn't like? Damir needs to get a reality check and so do you.

what do you mean good riddance? Thats her father. Do you think she's happy and singing songs now that she had to seperate herself from her family? Her mother? Please. It had to be done but theres nothing good about it, its sad. Also I find it sad that she went from one man to another instead of standing up for herself and her own life. If this relationship doesn't last hopefully she will be strong enough to do whats right for her and not just fall back into old pre boyfriend situations.

by my good ridence, i meant that he won't be controling her tennis life and he won't be around to make stupid remaks etc. and make Jelena the center of his attention. yeah definitely it's sad that a father doesn't wanna see his won child, but i mean now that she's away from him, she can grow on her won and kinda be free. i'm not saying it's good that she's for now separated from her father as a father figure, but more sepparated from him as a coach and separated from him with anything tennis-related

ah. well that is a good thing. hopefully she will continue to learn to do without his support tenniswise and grow back into her game. I also hope that this new bf really does love her and does not become a damir substitute.

Good. As for those of you who think that she needs her father for tennis, I personally believe that it is just a slump she is in, kind of like Kim had this time last year. However, even if leaving her father ruined her career, which would you rather have: a top 5/10 tennis career with potential for a slam or two, or true happiness away from all the chaos that comes with an alcoholic parent? There are always other ways to make money, but in the long run, happiness is way more important. And remember, she can still have it both ways without Dad, wheras with him she could never be free.

Poor Jelena
She's a nice girl, and before to be shocked as a player, she must struggle everyday with that as a woman. I really hope that one day she'll be definitely happy. Whatever to play tennis. Anyway, she'll play better when she'll be ok with herself : her great shots are there, and she is really fit. It's obvious that the troubles are mental.

I, too, can identify with Jelena..I've heard those words before. You don't need a father if he spits poison at you. I know Damir's kind...fucking narcissist! He will regret his words..looking at him he is already suffering..poor sad man...he is to be pitied.

This is a perfect example of having an ASSHOLE for a father! You never give up on your daughter! :fiery: :fiery:

lol, a bit harsh on the boifriend, who can blame him for wanting to bang a hot chick like Dokic? and perhaps the uber-babe enjoys being banged by him, nothing wrong with that :)

and i actually agree with yuo about Heinz, i've been saying for ages that it aint working out and she should can him, and yes, although he's an asshole, daddy is the only one who seems to be able to motivate her, as yuo correctly pointed out, the results speak for themselves...

and finally, daddy Dokic is all piss & moan, if the uber-babe was to knock on his door tomorrow and say to him "daddy, i've given Heinz the shitcan coz he's crap, and i've also busted up with Bernadi coz he insists that i give him anal, will yuo coach me again?" everything will be forgotten and daddy will be smiling again until he can find something else to piss & moan about

troof!

Damir didn't even coach his daughter .... in all of 2002 she was forced to go w/o a coach because her father couldnt give a crap about her and couldnt be bothard travelling with her.

Jbone ur talking crap ..... stop defending Damir, he is a total monster ...... If it wasn't for him, Jelena wouldn't be so shunned as she is now.

Dad chokes on Jelena's Brazil nut

By Alex Brown
May 9 2003

http://www.smh.com.au/ffxImage/urlpicture_id_1052280383207_2003/05/08/0905jelena.jpg

Unpredictable tennis father Damir Dokic has severed all ties with his daughter, Jelena, blaming the feud on her relationship with the Brazilian racing car driver Enrique Bernoldi.

"I never want to see [Jelena] again," Mr Dokic told the Herald in a telephone interview from Belgrade, using his son, Savo, as an interpreter. "She left us. We don't need her.

"My wife speaks to her often, but I don't want to. I am angry at her. She did things that she was not supposed to. We brought her back here and did everything for her until she was 19. Then she chose that idiot [Mr Bernoldi].

"Everybody says he's a formula one driver, but he is no one - nothing. [Jelena] supports him. My family put all the money from their house into her tennis, but it wasn't enough. In the beginning we had lots of support from Tennis Australia as well."

Mr Dokic believes the decision to relocate his family from Australia to Serbia and Montenegro in 2001 was his "biggest mistake".

While in Australia, the Dokic family assumed a reputation for the bizarre. After emigrating in 1994, they moved to Fairfield and channelled their efforts into boosting Jelena's career.

Her rise was rapid. On turning professional in 1998 she got a berth on the Fed Cup team in 1999 and 2000, then represented Australia at the 2000 Olympics.

With fame came controversy - Jelena at one stage claimed that the Australian Open draw was rigged against her, while her father received a six-month ban from the women's tour after run-ins with authorities at Wimbledon and the US Open.

The Dokics left Australia in 2001, claiming Tennis Australia and the media had forced them out. Last year, Jelena left the family to live with Bernoldi.

"She's not going to play for Australia [at the Athens Olympics]," Mr Dokic said of his daughter, ranked 11 in the world. "We didn't leave Australia, we were kicked out.

"Australia is a nice and good country and the people are very nice. It's just that some people in Tennis Australia and the media gave us problems. They did not support [Jelena]. We still have all those newspapers telling us to go. We probably never would have gone out of Australia if it wasn't for that.

"I'm sorry we left. But one hundred per cent, I think we made our biggest mistake leaving Australia. That's why I want to say hello to all the Australian people, especially [coach] Mr Tony Roche because I remember him every day."

During a tournament in Germany this week, Jelena conceded she was struggling away from her family.

Meanwhile, Mr Dokic said the rest of the family were moving from Belgrade to "somewhere else in Serbia" because of problems with local officials.

"When they hear my family's name they make us pay extra for things in Belgrade because they think we have all the money."

~RedRose~

There is also a Poll on the SMH.com.au website:

Should Australia welcome the Dokics back?

Keep them out - 41%
Let them in - 15%
Only Jelena - 42%

Total Votes: 3419

- Its Very Interesting But It shows that practically no Aussies like Damir at all. I Hope Jelena can show she really wants to come back, and I hope the Australian public will support her.
