Woohoo Japanese tennis looking pretty good at the mo: Ai up a place to 16 (and up a place in dubs aswell to 5) Shinobu at 82, Akiko at 87 and Saori at 89 (up ten places!) So thats four Japanese in top 100 (well top 90 actually ;) ) at one point there was only Ai! :D

If I'm correct, the last time there've been 4 Japanese players in the Top 100 (let along the Top 90) is more than 4 years ago in 1998.
Let's hope that it keeps getting better.

At the start of 1996, in top 100 were:
Kimiko Date
Ai Sugiyama
Eight players in the top 100, ahh the good ole' days! ;) :D

A few weeks ago, I happened to be in Tokyo...so I went to see Fed Cup (was FREE!! admission).
The Japanese team (Ai, Shinobu, Saori, and Rika) seemed to enjoy practicing together. They played well too.
Facing a Swedish team... I think we have a chance to go back to the World Group next year.
in 96 Date beating Graf is a legend!!
