So uhhhh ... when is the Jenmeister going to bust this company out of the rut and win another title? Seriously now, 16 months without a title for an "elite" player? Little ridiculous, I think. But she does have a decent draw in Berlin ....

So what's it going to be? Jen's spent the last two years right up there with the best in the game and netted three Grand Slam titles in the process. But so far this year, it hasn't been so good. The disaster that was Australia notwithstanding, she's fallen just short in every other match she's had with the top players. is she due for a breakthrough, or have we seen the best of her late career revival?

she'll win eastbourne! ;)

I think she needs to work a little more on her fitness. Dont get me wrong, she is in shape but just not the shape she was in when you was on her Slam Run. She can still obviously hang with the "best' of them but seems to not be able to close those matches out... I tend to think between her dating Matthew Perry and her issues with her eyes, she really just lost her focus on tennis. I think she is definitley on the right track now, her results have shown it since the beginning of the year... Yeah she hasnt had any titles, but you can dispute that she has improved. I think she's going to break through in the middle of this year, who knows it may even start in Germany.... I wish her only the best!!!!

Interesting fact:

The last 4 titles Jennifer has won, she's had to beat Hingis in the process

01 AO F--def. Hingis 64 63
01 FCC F--def. Hingis 60 46 64
01 RG SF--def. Hingis 64 63 [def. Clijsters in F]
02 AO F--def. Hingis 46 76 62

It may just be one of those weird things, but who knows. Clearly Jen should be winning, IMO, at least 1 hardcourt and clay title a year. Berlin, Rome, Paris she should have a shot in. Berlin she has a good draw, but has it become mental for her?

Although the media hasn't given it that much focus (consider how they like to point out a certain other player's title failings), I would imagine Jen's aware and maybe it is preying on her mind a little.

i think its just a mental thing! she can do it but i dont know if she believes it! also she needs to get fitter as the matches she's lost have been three setters where she seems to get tired in the third set

We've seen JCaps best days

Shes still a solid Top 10er, but not top 5
Well, I take that back
Shes a top 5 player, but theres no room for her there

I think thats more accurate

Me says she loses to Shiavone in 3

I'd say her better day are over if she doesnt find that drive she had when she won the Aussie open.... but I thinks she's finding her mojo again... I guess time will tell..

you know what else? There's about 1000 other top five players on the tour, but there's no room for them there. ;)

Her turn will come this year again. She has made the semis or better of every tourney this year since the OZ open. I really think she needs just 1 break thru match win, and her mojo will be in full swing again! I luv that she is still out there working out hard, regaining fitness, she's still hungry, and she's back in the role she loves - THE UNDERDOG!! I like her chances at Berlin this week--- good draw!!

Ooh, yes please! Can we discuss Jen all day long? Can we post pics of her getting hot and sweaty in tight clothing? Can we discuss her body, her fire, her passion, her spirit...?

I vote for a National Jen Day! In fact, I might ask the WTA to rename MY tour after Jen. The World Jen Tour. Beautiful!

I love Jen. Lots.

It is right that Jen won her last tournament a while ago but don`t you notice that she participates in the big tournaments? She never played small tournaments with easier opponents just to win titles like e. g. Martinez did. By the way Jen reaches the semis in almost every tournament she plays. Don`t call her achievements ridiculous, King Lindsay

People tend to forget who took Jen out of the US Open and Wimby last year. It was Momo. Also, Justine started challenging Jen and winning their past match ups.

Jen use to have the goods on both of these players, and she use to have a stranglehold over Serena. I think it was moreso of her confidence than her overall game. I do feel she can still go toe to toe with Serena but the confidence level is down.

Remember Justine use to choke against Jen, Serena also, and momo would also. Once they figured out that in order to beat Jen you have to stay with her and be confident these players started beating her.

I do feel that anyday Jen can beat them again, however since they know what it takes it will be harder than before. But if she finds the right balance again she will win another title.

Hey, don't take that comment to heart. Believe me, if Conchita was where Jen is in the rankings and had also suffered a similar title drought I would asking the pertinent questions about her too.

Yes, she plays the major events. But she is supposed to be one of the top handful of players in the world! I don't think it's unfair criticism to say that she should've won at least once in the last 16 months, do you? Yes she routinely gets to the semis, the final, whatever. But that she hasn't come away with a title in so long has hurt her credibility as a top-flight player and cast doubt on whether she can be the force she was in 2001 and the first half of 2002. So I think it's a decent question to pose.

minor disagreement. Justine's always been pretty hard on Jennifer.

Yes, let's talk about the Capster eh? ;)

I really do hope she wins a tournament soon, She hasn't won a tournament in over a year. Kind of sad for a top player. Go Jen, Win again! :D

To be honest Jennifer was always more of a threat to beat top players than a threat to win titles continuosly

shes only won 13 titles in 10 years for goodness sakes

CJ07
May 6th, 2003, 11:15 PM
scuse me, 13 years

now, i admit thats 13 more titles than I'll ever have, but still

If Lindsay, Momo, Venus and Serena are not in a tournament, I think Jennifer is a heavy favorite to win it. With even one of those players in, she'll have a tough time. If it's a mental thing, I don't see her getting over it anytime soon. Momo took her out in Wimby, Montréal, and the USO. I mean, c'mon! Lindsay owns her 9-2. Serena... do I even have to point that out? We all know she has the game but I don't think she's dedicated enough. The eye surgery thing is just an excuse since she's had plenty of time to get over it.

I have a like/dislike relationship with Jen. I'm in like mode right now. I really want her to win SOMETHING... anything. She has made the semi's of a lot of tournies and only one final this year and she faced... Serena. A combonation of bad luck and a lack of self-belief is holding her back. All she needs is one win over a top 5 player and she'll be on her way. I wish her luck.

She'll show a strong comeback. In order for me to believe that she has a legit shot at RG (and I want her to win RG again), she has to win either Berlin or Rome.

She is looking in fantastic shape, so there should be no reason for her to hold back physically, she has power, its just the tiny mental thing.

It makes her more tentative at crucial times, which leads to her downfall against top players IMO. She needs to keep that pressure up all the time.

Go Jennifer :)

eastbourne? she has entered eastbourne? and tell me, what other top 10 player is there besides somone like Dokic or Myskina? This is defintely, an "enter to shut them the fuck up tournie"

Lawd hab mercies, well i guess if you really wanna a title, and you can't seem to win one by beating the top 10 anymore, jump to a tier what? 10?

naw im fuckin w/ you all about Jen Jen, if this is how she wants to prepare for Wimbledon than so be it. It just happens to run in with the fact, that she hasn't won a title, she didn't play Eastbourne before, and also the fact that it looks like an easy tournie win for her :)

and as eastbourne is the only other grasscourt tournie dont u think its a good way to warm up? and she needs to increase her ranking points by putting in extra tournies! she didint play dubai or amelia island last year either, so what the hell are people talking about? at least she turns up for most of the tournies she signs up for!!!!!

Mase

He did say he was just fucking with Jen fans guys.. calm down... :-) Its obviously the best thing or any player to do to warm up for Wimbledon, I personally wouldnt care if it was a Tier IV...

Jennifer needs confidence and that will come from beating a few top five players which will be the result of a better serve (first and second). Clijsters and Henin have solid serves these days, and Justine has surprising penetration. Henin is only 5'6" also.

She is a great slugger with awesome defense skills and enough power to beat anyone in the world still. However, she is trying to poop the ball over like Sabatini, and it's not going to work. Jennifer's serve is a big hole in her game. Serena has cleaned up mentally. Venus became more consistent on her forehand and made that first serve into a real weapon. Jennifer needs to take another step, otherwise she will be at the mercy of the top 6 or 7 girls. They are going to jump all over her the way Jennifer began to jump all over Hingis. They started to aim for her when she reached the top, and they know exactly what her style is now.

This is no longer the age of Sabatini, Martinez, and Sanchez-Vicario. Weak serves are gobbled up by the power girls. The other girls have no fear against the Capriati serve and will be willing to mix it up with her, since Mauresmo, Stevenson and Henin know that they have to mix slice and spin to upset her rhythm.

Let's look at her losses since 2002:
