Monica Gambill is ready for this years red clay season and the build up to the french open.Last year she was a first round casualty at Warsaw but was runner-up in the doubles with Katerina Krivincheva-Molik,the two will play with each other agin this year.
'I'm really looking forward.I'm having a solid year no titles in singles yet but i've had some great results in Charlston and Amelia Island.I've been working hard on my fitness this year and its starting to show i'm staying in rallies longer and i'm getting to more drop shots.'
On the prospect of the clay court season she said
'Its great to be back in europe.I haven't been in europe since before christmas.I've been in Australia,Asia and the USA untill now. After mys sister and farthers death i moved back to wales to be with my family but after wimbledon i'll be moving back to my home in sarasota which will be fun.
Clay has alwasy been my best surface but i've been very patchy on it.This year though i'm hoping for a more stable season with hopfully a title or 2'

Jane Wong burst out amid Mary Wong and Lindsay Ann Sarile scandal

Jane Wong strongly criticised Lindsay Anne Sarile led her sister to drug addiction after being persistently asked by reporters. Here is an interview with her after she arrive in Warsaw.

Q: Jane, you have not talked about Mary scandal, can you tell us a bit more?
A: I do not wish to answer.

Q: why did you refuse to answer? Can you tell me whether you talked to Lindsay?
A: No comment.

Q: What do you think that Mary is fine and punished at a much higher fine than Lindsay?
A: This is totally unfair, Lindsay is the one who encourage my sister to do it and Lindsay is the adult and Mary was misguilded and she was punished at a much heavier rate. This is unfair, it hurts me when I think about that, I will not be friend with lindsay anymore

Jane Wong walked off...

Gianna Adrianna Dulko will have to defend her title this year at Warsaw, after winning her first FWTT tournament here last year. "Last year winning here at home was such a great accomplishment for me. I sure hope I can do it again, I will definitely give it my all. Playing at home really boosts my confidence. However, we lost to Bulgaria last week in Fed Cup, as they played great, and I face Majlana in round 1. So I will have a tough time getting through."

Also, Polish junior Katarina Molik has to defend her finalist doubles points. "I love playing at home and I sure did well here with Monica in doubles last year. I hope to improve upon my singles performance from last year and hope to do well in doubles as well. Getting to the semis in Estoril has really boosted my confidence, as I was winless in pro tournaments prior to that tournament. I hope to continue my good play as of late."

Madonika Arrested Upon Arrival in Warsaw

FWTT's biggest superstar Madonika Diva Jahfson has been arrested for surprisingly, the first time in her career.

Jahfson was arrested for nearly killing Leizel Coetzer in what was described as a vicious beat down.

Coetzer pressed charges late last night. Jahfson was flying to Poland at the time and upon arrival she was escorted by local police and is currently being held in custody.

"I'm glad I beat her ass, I have no regrets. That bitch deserved it...Bryanne Applegate and Monica Gambill are next, those two **** whore sluts have been talking shit about me throughout this whole ordeal, and I promise them they will get a nice little spanking from Madonika real soon."

"I will not dissapoint my fans...don't you worry, Jane Wong has paid my parole and I am being released in a matter of hours. Scary news for my good friends Bryanne and Applegate...and of course Ruflina!"

Jane Wong has indeed paid Jahfson's parole, a gesture that made Madonika laugh hysterically.

"These girls are so scared of me that the minute they can get on my good side, they take the initiative and do it. Jane Wong ran over like a lost sheep and paid $10,000 at a whim. Silly bitch...with all that money I have enough left over for a Brazilian wax!"

As far as Leizel Coetzer, Jahfson is done with her.

"Fuck her, I'm done with her ass...I'm leaving her alone because I see it's much more fun to mess with the pesky little bitches like Gambill, Applegate, and anyone else who gives a fuck...."

Ooops...she did it again!

Madonika Diva Jahfson...THE Queen of Controversy!

The Polish police are very good at apprehending those who are on warrants! ;)

Jane Wong:

'I did not pay for her parole, she must be on drugs, I was in Selmina exhibition at the time.'

Nastya Myskina Tries To Make A Move In FWTT!

After virtually accomplishing nothing on the FWTT Tour, Anastasia Myskina has rededicated to playing. She has spent long hours on the clay courts of Warsaw in hopes of fine tuning her game enough to win some rounds. Hopefully, Nastya can pull herself together and rise into the position of one of the FWTT's Elitest Players....

VAMOS NATYA!

Regla Torres wishes her friend Gianna-Adriana Dulko luck as she knows this title is really important to her. She also said, "This is my first time in Poland, and I'm really enjoying it here." She'll be hoping to continue her good form on the clay when she starts play in the 2nd round.

Tiffani Makes Polish Debut

Upon arriving in Warsaw, Tiffani Eggert was kind enough to answer a few questions.

Q: Welcome to Warsaw. What made you decide to play here?
TE: Thank you, well I was going over my schedule and realized that I had meant to enter Sarasota a few weeks ago but I did not. This left my year open for one more tournament. And I could really use the practice on clay.

Q: You have had many changes in your doubles partner in the past few weeks. Are you playing with Marteena Huubere for good?
TE: Let me set the record straight. Paula Masterton was set to be my partner for the year. But she decided to pull out of some tournaments and did not even tell me. I have no idea why. So that is when I turend to Tami Sugarn. I saw that she was struggling with Anna Kroulikova. So I asked if she wanted to team up again, she said yes so we're set. I asked her to play Warsaw, but by the time she went to commit, she would have had to play qualifying. So she decided to pass. Our schedule will be very similar for the next few months. Then I saw Marteena had no partner. And I jumped at the opportunity. Such a great player, I can't wait to play with her.

Q: How does it feel to be outside of the Top 10 now for the first time in over a year?
TE: Very upsetting. And i have a lot more points to defend. Unless I do well at Roland Garros, I am gonna remain outside of the Top 10 and maybe outside the Top 20. Competition is very rough.

Q: Who do you think will win the French Open?
TE: Well we haven't started the clay court season yet, so it's really could be anyone. Too soon to tell. But I will say Tami and I will definitely be a contender for the doubles!

Q: First round at Warsaw, you play Patsy Lou Selez. Any feelings?
TE: Who??? I never heard of her. It's very frustrating playing girls that I don't know. Young girls, week after week. But I don't really have a choice. I will treat it like any other match and play my hardest.

Q: Thanks Tiffani and good luck!
TE: Thanks!

Apr 30th, 2003, 08:41 PM
wot Tiff you dumped me?! :fiery:

I never intended ti play this event, but i am scheduled at all teh same as you up until Surbiton.

If you wanna split I understand, I'm sorry. It's just i really f****d up my scheduling last year so i ahve been playing less clay tournaments as that's my weakest event.

I wish you best of luck with tami in roland garros, it's just a shame i had to read this to find out i no longer had a partner :(

Apr 30th, 2003, 08:54 PM
Don't worry Paula it always comes back to bite the dumpers asses in the end.

Apr 30th, 2003, 09:25 PM
Don't worry Paula, I had the same happen to me and well that player is "injured".

Apr 30th, 2003, 10:50 PM
Paula, don't be mad at me. You completely disappeared. I was very hurt. It was at Bausch and Lomb I think that I was looking to play with you. But then I saw you pulled out of all tournaments without explanation. So what was I to do? I had no idea where you went or if and when you will be playing again. So I immediately searched out a new partner. I'm sorry, because I really enjoyed our partnership, but you disappeared.

May 1st, 2003, 12:17 AM
Don't worry Paula, I had the same happen to me and well that player is "injured".

LOL! Your still not over it yet? Oh god  I was happy with Anna (Wimbledon 2002) now I'll be happy with Selima(US Open 2003, Grand Slam doubles in 2004, 2005 and 2006 ;) )! I also thought you were happy with Regla? Why do you still bring the separation thing again and again?

Anyway, good luck to you to defend!

I was only playing FLL, I am happy with Regla.

I thank you for your good luck and wish Larissa Liashenko a speedy recovery and return ;)

Regla Torres through in doubles but unsure of herself in singles

Warsaw, Poland (AP)

Having won a Tier I on clay so far in the season doesn't mean a thing for Regla Torres. The Spanish #1 said, "I'm still not very sure about my game. I'm very tentative at this stage. I'm trying to do different things but also fearing that they won't work out."

Today though she won her doubles match with partner Gianna Adrianna-Dulko. She said, "I'm happy for us. We really want to do well here, in singles and doubles so it's a good start." She hopes to be at least consistent in singles though that'll be difficult as she faces talented teen Katarina Krivenchiva-Molik in the 1st round, also a Polish player.

"All the Polish girls are playing well, I think they're all determined to do really well here", said Torres. Another reason why she needs to do well here is although she's not a defending champion here she won Hamburg last year - now a defunct tournament - and her points from that win will be coming off this week.

"All I hope is I can in the top ten by the end of all this, it's not looking too good right now", admitted Torres.

Jane Wong crack under pressure

Amidst brilliant play by Marta Bajul, Jane Wong crash out in the first round of the red clay Warsaw in what is said to be the biggest upset of the day.

Here is an interview with her

Q: Dissappointed?
A: Yes, very. Marta is a great player with a lot of potential, but I feel that I could have done much better.

Q: How about doubles?
A: Yeah, we play great, hopefully we can continue.

Q: Can you tell us a bit more about the outburst about Lindsay a few days ago, did it affect your play at all.
A: I do not wish to answer anymore question regarding my sister and Lindsay, thankyou.

Monica Gambill today cruised to the 2nd round of Warsaw after a 6-2 6-1 demolition of Joanna Chan.
Gambill was in fine form never dropping her serve and never having a break point against her.
'I played very well hitting a lot of winner and few unforced errors.I think it was a step up for Joanna shes only been playing on the tour fro a while so she'll take some time to adapt. She did have a good game was a great mover she got to some balls that i thought would be winners for sure.I'm sure she'll do well in the future'

It was a tough match out there, but unfortunately I wasn't able to come out on the winning end. Anabel played well and deserved it.

As for doubles, it is so exciting to be in the finals yet again. We play the toughest team, Anjie and Eva, in the final. It will defnitiely be a mentally and physically tough match for me and Jane. She is such a great player, especially in doubles. Without her, we wouldn't be here.

Warsaw, Poland (AP)

No. 4 seed Regla Torres was pushed to limits before prevailing 7-6 6-7 7-6 against Polish teen Katarina Krivencheva-Molik. All she could say was, "Whew!" after the match. She said although she and Gianna lost in the doubles she hopes that will convert into a better showing in the singles for both of them. Torres will next take on another excellent claycourt player Anabel Conde-Martinez which promises to be a great match also.

Q: Finally getting back your form Eva?

A: Slowly yes (laughter). I've struggled a bit since moving onto the clay, but I'm finding my feet again. Hopefully I will peak at the right time.

Q: I take it you've never faced Backham before?

A: No, she played a good match though. I didn't know what to expect, but fortunately I played well on the important points and was able to win it.

Q: Onto the quarterfinals now against Monica Gambill - What can you expect from her?

A: Well, she's a bit of a hot and cold player, but when she is confident and playing well she is tough to beat. I haven't played her in a while now, only time we faced was at Indian Wells last year and she went really far there played really good. I will have to play better than I did today if I want to get through.

Q: Do you see yourself as the favourite?

A: Not really, she seems to like clay, and she had a good win over Brenda last round, so I don't know. I don't like to label anyone as a favourite really because anyone can beat anyone out here.

Q: How big was the Fed Cup for you last week?

A: It was great. Spain have such a deep team so to win was fantastic. Anjie and our captain Rene Simpson really kept me positive, so I am thankful for that.

Q: Looking forward to the doubles final?

A: Of course. We played two good matches, but Ruffy and Jane are always tough so it should be a great final.

Q: Thanks Eva.

A: Thanks.

Gianna-Adrianna falls to doubles partner in semi-finals of Warsaw

Warsaw (AP): Gianna Adrianna Dulko failed to defend her very first title, which came at Warsaw a year ago , after falling in 3 excruciatingly tough sets to her doubles partner Regla Torres in the semi-finals of the now Tier II tournament. "This loss, as every loss is, disappointing. However, Regla played well. I did as well but she was just able to come on top in the final tiebreak in the third set. The points were so close, we really gave it our all. I wish Regla all the best in the final, but I also wish good luck to Monica, as she is a friend of mine as well. I am sad to not have defended my title, but I am glad that I managed to go this far in the tournament, particularly now that it is a tier II this year at least. To go out in such a close fashion is a heartbreaker but also a testament to my goodplay. Katarina my friend also lost by a similar score to Regla, so Regla really deserves to be in the final as she really knows how to win matches. I am sad that we did not win the doubles but we did reach the semi-finals there as well. So a good tournament for me nonetheless, and I am glad that I managed to give my home crowd a good match. Thanks and well done Regla."

'I'm so happy to be in the final.I'm playing great tennis and i'm feeling very confident. This certainly makes up for the bad hardcourt season i had last year.I'd like to thank all the players who have supported me this week Jane,Paula,Gisele,Gianna and Katerina its mean't a great deal to me.Thank you'
In the final tomorrow she will face Regla Torres champion in Charlston but Gambill holds a 2-0 record against Torres both matches on clay.
'I have beaten her twice, both times we played actually but tomorrow is another match Regla will want this title as much as me and shes come through some titanic battles this week so she will definately be ready.I think it will be a great final'

Monica Gambill is celebrating today after winning the J & S cup in Warsaw,Poland.Gambill defeated 3 top 10 players to win the title and in the fianl defeated Regal Torres.
'I'm so happy. Its my first singles title and its been a long time coming. Two years ago i joined the junior tour and had a great time.4 months later i was a pro and i struggled but this makes up for it(cries).
I just wish Anne could be here to share it with me!'
In a tense first set both players stuggled to hold serve and tie break was imminent.
'The tiebreak was very close a point here and there i think a little luck came into me winning the tie break but i played well on the big points'
In the second set Monica played her best tennis hitting winners from all parts of the court.
'After the first set i was confident and i just went for my shots and they all came off'
She now has a 3-0 head to head with Torres a fact which baffles her.
'I think its quite stramge in my opinion shes the best clay courter out there.Shes not too aggressive but she has amazing retriving powers she was frustrating me at the start but then i was willing to work hard for the points.I think because i hit the ball harder i dictate the points and i don't to too much moving'
After a heavy schedule Gambill is resting next week.
'I'm taking next week off which i think is a good thing for my body because i will be playing Rome and Madrid and Roland Garros so i will want to be fresh for those events'
