How many get promoted?

Two.

"The top nations from each pool will play-off on Saturday to determine which two nations will proceed to Group I in 2004"

Go Finland :D

Lithuania is without one of its star players in 17 yr old Aurelija Miseviciute
so 17 yr old Lina Stanciute will have to burden the shoulder (she will only be #2 so that will guarantee wins)

Irina Kuzmina/Larisa Savcenko d. Asimina Kaplani/Maria Pavlidou, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4

I really wasn't expecting that it would be so hard for Frederica to win her match but she stopped training after the Estoril Open due to an injury and only started one week ago. Besides that, the courts and the balls were very slow and she said that it was hard to play more agressively like she would want to. Ana Nogueira also had some problems with it. But I'm really happy that they won. :D

Here's Frederica Piedade:

Portugal def. Turkey 3-0 :bounce:

Ana Catarina Nogueira d. Pemra Ozgen, 7-5, 6-4 (1 hour and 57 min.) :D

F. Piedade/Neuza Silva d. I. Senoglu/P. Ozgen, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 (1 hour and 52 min.) :D

They were all very close matches. Frederica was down 6-3 3-0 but managed to turn things around. Frederica also suffered a penalty point on her second match point because she was being coached by her father :o .

The winners of the groups were Portugal, Greece, Finland and Lithuania. Tomorrow it will be decided, who plays against who to win the promotion for the Group 1.

Greece def. Finland 2-0

WTF was that  . I really was expecting Ana to win her match. Frederica loss was probably even worse, but I understand because she was injured and took a week off to recover and has started to feel some pain on her knee again  . I really thought they would win that  .

Eggy, how good do you think Lina will be? I thought that Ana would beat her, because I never saw great results from her.

Lina is only 17 and a great talent. She is currently one of the best juniors. In 2002 she reached the final of Kaunas Challenger.

I really wanted Portugal to win but Linas win was more than expected. Ana-Catarina is a decent player but she should be lucky to have won a set. More impressed from Fredericas loss

Thanks Xian :)

They said that Ana played well but Lina came up with great shots and was just too good. I was hoping that Frederica could win, but she is a bit out of shape.

TheBoiledEgg
May 4th, 2003, 11:51 AM
wow ........ decided before the doubles :D:D

I knew Lina would win her match. Like Xian said she's gonna be a very solid player, junior results have been pretty good too without any outstanding stuff.
Its great for Lithuania to make it without help from Aurelija (but they will need her in Group1).

but Edita :D :) :)

well done girls :bounce:
