I think it's up to the coach's discression. But it usually is by ranking. It is seen as bad sportsmanship to totally forget about the rankings in picking order.

Usually the only time the orders are switches is when the rankigns are close. As was the case for Korea this year (Hong played 1st singles, altho she is ranked about 50 under Choi)

Surprising  why Korea team doesn't send the higher ranking(Young-Ja Choi,423 and Da-Jung Hong,480) to play both single match.

Do they think they don't have chance to beat CHN. ???

Because WTA ranking doesn't reflect the performance for Korean player who are focusing on domestic matches.
Actually,.. Korean #2 players are YJ Cho & Mi-ra Jeon.
Then #3, #4, #5 players are Jin-young Choi, Mi-ok Kim and Kyung-mi Chang.

Young-Ja Choi is not top 5 player in Korea now,... and Da-jung Hong is not top 10 player in Korea and not #1 junior player either, it's So-jung Kim.
Young-ja Choi and Da-jung Hong just have higher ranking because they entered more ITF tour than the rest. But YJ Choi is still big name,.. and they're trying their best now. :)

So,.. JY Choi and MO Kim are the ACEs in Korean team. They just couldn't play against Japan team because they had to play Vietnam challenger doubles final at that time.

Hope it helps.

I really don't know what's happen with her (Suchanan) after she won 1st set. It seemed like she lost concentration after rain delayed.

If Thailand lost to Taiwan 1-2 , they will count the matches won, right?
So,
Indonesia got 12
Thailand got 11
Taiwan got 8
In this case, will there be a double match between THA and INA cos If Thailand win they will level at 12 all and take it to the sets won decision.

If Thailand 0-3 Taiwan
...
Indonesia 12
Thailand 10
Taiwan 9
Taiwan and Thailand both have one match not played,so it should be played (both matches) to give the opportunity to Taiwan (in case Taiwan wins and THA loses)
Am I right?
Or THA has def INA 3-0
and Taiwan has def Kazakhstan 3-0?

lin
Apr 25th, 2003, 06:49 AM
Yes, first they will count the numbers of winning matches.

As for the doubles matches on Wednesday, they actually got canceled due to weather concern. So it's a a bit unlucky for TPE because it's very likely Taiwan can beat Kazakhstan 3-0...

I think that , if Thailand does lose 1-2.. They'll do a percentage of matches won to matches played.. Because of not all teams playing 3 matches in a tie. If that's the case (this is if Thailand loses 1-2 to INA)

Indonesia (4-1) 12 matches WON out of 14 = 85.7%
Thailand (4-1) 11 matches WON out of 14 = 78.5%
Chinese Taipei (4-1) 8 matches WON out of 14 = 57.1%

making the pool playoffs INA v. CHN and JPN v. THA.. That seems the most practical way of doing it?

With Tammy up 6-0, 3-0, its not likely TPE will get a 3-0 win.. and even so if they use the above method it doesnt look like it would matter

Buitenzorg , no team has advanced to the world playoff....

The winner of Pool A plays the runner up of Pool B for a spot in the world play off,
and the winner of Pool B plays the runner up of Pool A for a spot in the world play off..
That's how I understand it anyway.

Japan has won Pool A, China runner up. So this match will determine whether or not Japan plays INA or THA.

I don't think Tammy won so easily with double bagel. I think it's just because Su-Wei was playing injury her left thigh.

I think thats wrong JohnnyWeirFan, cos I think Thailand bt Indonesia 3-0, cos they forfetted the doubles.
Therefore Thailand = 12/15 matches
Indonesia = 12/15 matches

Sorry, I counted it from all team matches in group 1B. I don't know excactly how the regulation, counted from all team or only INA,THA,TPE matches. If only from INA,THA,TPE who win the double match automatically as group winner.
