I really like Sega Sports Tennis for PS2. The first time I played it I wasnt a fan, but now that I own it its really cool. You can create your own players and move them up the rankings, even create a male/female player and have them compete together in mixed doubles competitons. So I would have to recommend that one, as well as Smash Court Tennis, thats a cool. realistic game as well. WTA Tour is alright, graphics are awesome but not a big fan of it. And I just dont liek SmashCourt, dont know why. Can you tell I own them all? Hahahahha! Hope the info helps some!

The best tennis game is WTA Tour tennis PAL version. Its got a realistic tour mode (66 real tournments), the exhibition mode is good with exhibition doubles being the best. It has about 40 real players past and present-who you can play with in exhibition mode. The only thing letting it down is the graphics-they are not as good as other games out there but the gameplay makes up for it. The game has been out a while so the price should be fairly low.- Its by far the best game --a must buy :)

What I find is that going from one game to the next gives me trouble. Like playing sega 2k2 for a while, then going to wta tour, to hardhitter to smash court.
Reviews:

sega sports 2k2 is so fun, and you will never ever be left unchallenged. The game can be hard if you want it too. It's basically power tennis though. I love it!!!! Even though I cannot win the big doubles match in tour mode.

hardhitter tennis- this is so cool, I love it for some reason. I just hate that you cannot use the gamepad. You have to use the analog stick on the controller. Generic players, but overall good setup. I just hate in the tour mode they won't allow you to play full sets, only tiebreaks. And using the analog stick gives you not much control of serve. So, I find myself serving in one space all the time. If you don't look at that it's pretty fun and has a variety of shots to use.

wta tour tennis american version-stay away from this game. MOONBALL city. You can't barely control your player, she just hits moonball after moonball. I did adjust to it, but it is boring and a weak game. The worse I've ever played. I don't play it anymore.

smash court tennis-very fun, but such a limit of players and only 4 tournments. Granted they are Wimby, U.S. Open, AO, but the french is a different mark. Gameplay is pretty fun, but too limited IMO. It's not exciting too much, but the gameplay is good.

wta tour tennis gameboy advance-this is fun. I cannot believe this is funner than the american version. No moonball, it's faster. Shots are limited because of 2 buttons, but the gameplay is very competitive. I hate Hingis, she always beats me but I did beat her and Jen one time.

Anyone know where I can get centre court hardhitter 2? Anyone have it? Is it different than hardhitter?

I just can't find anywhere the WTA Tennis Tour PAL version..

I have the American version, and the graphics are good, but yeah, the players are so slow, and they never have a rally.. If they have, it's pretty easy to control it..

The only thing that worths in this game are the grunts, so damn real, and the movements. If you notice when they're well positioned, their movements are the same :) And the crowd! They scream for the player's name and everything :D

I actually have, Sega Sports Tennis, WTA Tour Tennis (NTSC), Smash Court, and Hard Hitter. Out of all of them, I recommend Sega Sports Tennis cause it has the best game play, and the players actually look good.

I have just about every tennis game around on xbox, PS2, and nintendo and The BEST game by far, as mentioned by Bezza, is the PAL version of WTA TENNIS.

And it IS available in the USA now! Not from shops, but you have to buy it from a poster on these boards called Keith. Just send him a private message. It has a huge stable of WTA players and an extensive world tour that is very realistic. Also the exhibition mode is great - esp doubles. Sure, the graphics aren't as good as some of the other games, but the gameplay and depth far outweigh that. There are so many shots and tactics you can learn and develop in this game.

For those not in America, you can still buy the PAL version of WTA Tennis from www.amazon.co.uk (don't confuse it with Pro Tennis WTA Tour which is the moonball nightmare game from hell!). Here is the link which also includes a couple of player reviews:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005LR09/qid=1051060209/sr=1-21/ref=sr_1_2_21/202-3804032-1522243

The next best game is Sega Sports Tennis (also known as Virtua Tennis 2 for those in Europe & Australia). This is a great game for people to just pick up and play even if you have limited experience with tennis games. It's very easy to play. Great game if you have friends over and they have never played before... lots of fun.

The American (NTSC) version of WTA Tennis is rather boring from my perspective. Sure, it looks and sounds great, but even when you get the hang of the awful controls, it is very slow and far too many lobs and moonballs. Pass on this one.

Smash Court Tennis is OK. Can be fun in doubles but the gameplay is rather limited....

Slam Tennis is a pretty good game. Not sure if it is available in the USA. But I would put this at #3 behind WTA Tennis (PAL) and Sega Sports Tennis. Lots of interesting courts and features and the gameplay is quite good (when you learn the special trick in how to hit crosscourt).

Tennis Masters Series on xbox is quite fun until you learn how to beat the computer, then it gets all too easy...

Hard Hitter 2 is not bad. Shame there are no real players, that would make it more fun.

Hard Hitter 1 is very ordinary IMO, as is Next Generation Tennis. I have a couple more but they are not even worth mentioning.

Very good review - This helped me alot. Thank you!
I also have "2k2" and I absolutely love this game.I can kick some major a** with my Monica player! But there are a few things I would change of course. Wish that it was best 2 out of 3 sets. But I would rather have the power and quickness this games has, over the slow american "wta tour tennis." I played the version on xbox and I am pretty sure that it is just like what the PS2 game is gonna be. This game was not good for me. The PAL version sounds more interesting. I am just curious just because I would want to know if the movements were better and the ball speeds.
All in all - thank you. I am going to get a PS2 though - I might as well get the smash court and enjoy that one also.

I am interested in knowing if anybody has played both the US or PAL versions - and whats different about the 2. I definately hate the US game - it is horrible. But I would like to know how similar the games are, and how different they are.
I will get PS2 though - there is no doubt. So that way I can get "smash court tennis" also (still in love with the "2k2" game - so far).
If someone can give me the differences in the US vs PAL - then I will definately get it.

Thanks Keith for your help!

Hard Hitter tennis is the best one because its the most realistic. On most games unforced errors occur rarely and so do double faults, but with Hard Hitter, it is totally realistic because you can hit balls into the net and wack them really far out if you dont play the shot right. You have really good rallies. WTA tennis I dont like that much because its hard to really wack the ball and it doesnt feel or look like you're playin a real match. If you get out of position the player just lobs the ball in the air and it is pretty boring after a while. The controls are REAL hard to control like putting slice or topspin on it and timing is everything. The only real good thing about it is that you have a variety of WTA tour players. I have one other really weird tennis game that sucks. I never play it either and dont even recall the name of it. But its sorta like what they have at the Open Gaz de France when you can play that online game there.

WTA Tennis (PAL version) has the most realistic gameplay of all of them. And this game is completely different from the USA version of WTA Tennis, which is moonball nightmare. The PAL version has every shot in the book, plus unforced errors (you can hit long, wide, into the net) plus you can hit let cords, hit your partner in the back if they are in the way etc. The slices, drop shots, topspin, smashes, flat shots, etc are more realistic than on any other game. And for those in America, yes you can get this game from Keith - but only for another week or so as he is going to stop distributing it in America.

I have Hard Hitter and Hard Hitter 2 and they are OK.
