It will be interesting to see how he responds to Elena's win as he wrote her off last year as the most dissapointing player on the tour.

He'll just write about whatever is said
on this web forum and claim his "friend"
made those comments.

P.S I was the one who said that Patty
is the "female Rios".

Was he wrong?

Maybe he should have said ONE of the most.

I don't know; but I bet he'll write something
about Elena Dementieva or Dokic that's
transferred from one of the threads this week?

John W's Mailbag

Q: What's up with Dokic? Will she
represent Australia again?

A: Good question. From what I hear
on the Dokic camp from an insider
source....(fill in comment from WTA
general message board).

Q: Will Elena Dementieva win Roland Garros?

A: Well...the question is will Elena overtake
Monica Seles. It's all just a matter of
confidence. Dementieva's game should
improve; and is still better than that
other Russian who was featured on VH1
during last weeks run of tennis on TV
featuring an exhibition match from MSG..
(blah, blah...rip of from WTA message
board)

LOL, It's so true. I enjoy reading his column but I hate him! He always picks on Jenn and Anna.

At least he's doing his research of message boards... better than not doing any at all ;) I take that back, this is the same guy who claims that Santoro is just barely 5'10, Ferrero is clearly 5'9, and sees nothing wrong with this.

That said, his is one of the few weekly tennis pieces, so I'm willing to take what I get.

If u go to http://www.tennisrulz.com

every week there is a WTA Backspin review by Todd Spiker, u would be surprised how interesting his articles are ;)

If you guys are the ones with all the inside knowledge then why is he the one writing for Sports Illustrated.

I LOVE his column - it's the only decent tennis 'thing' on the net period. I like to enjoy my tennis and he makes me laugh and smile unlike the "WilliamsTAWorld Message Board with a large dose of Moanica Fans thrown in for good measure. It's good karma to mix the good with the bad right

Did he write something honest about your 'couldn't be more perfect and beyond judgement' favourite player????

Oh and by coming here he is just doing his job - research. He's a smart guy to - getting all you losers to spoon feed him info. - the man's a GENIUS!!!! And a pretty unbias one at that - one week he floors my guy Hewitt the next he is kissing his feet. I expect that from a good journalist - Hewitt sometimes deserves the slaying other times he deserves (and gets) the highest praise - that's life's rich tapestry. At least Jon is objective enough about the sport to be view it like that unlike the 'blinded by love and jealousy' fans we have present at this messageboard.

So he writes mean things about some players....well some players DESERVE it 24/7 given the way they act and/or attempt to play. But for the most part he is pretty fair and a good writer. Hell I doubt the guy could pull off a gig at SI if he didn't know what he was doing and impressing someone.....

GO JON - MY HERO!!!!

Thanks for the tennisrulz website.

I enjoy reading Wertheim's weekly mailbag. He seems to bring an objectivity to his reporting. He has been hard on Serena and Venus at times and has praised them at other times. (As is the case with his thoughts on other players as well...)

I mostly enjoy Wertheim's columns, and I think he gets unfairly slagged on this board far too often. He's especially good at dispensing some behind-the-scenes information that we really wouldn't get from anywhere else, and he points out things about the relationship the press has with players which most of us wouldn't have realized.

I also think he's objective about players. The only one he consistently rags on is JCap, but not out of animosity -- I believe he wants JCap to be a better player and to sort out her problems. When he does criticize her, he cites facts which can't be denied, and he's just calling it the way it is.

As someone who used to work at CBS Sportsline... MANY writers know less than the average fan does.

You would think that Jon .. or rather "Penne" would realise that Tennis not Jon's main sport.
