if anyone knows, I would like the answer to this too. I just have purchased direct tv.. am hoping I don't haveto purchase anything else to get the ever elusive, always "just about to be released" tennis channel..

There is no deal yet, but just very vague reports that they are "in negotiations." In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to let DirecTV know you want them to pick it up, if you haven't already. Here are two options for doing just that:

Fill out the form at http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/glb/Form_Feedback.jsp

Or email directly to feedback@directv.com

I did both. :)

right, as of this time no.

I have dish network and if you want to harrass the hell out of them you can do so the following ways:

1-800-333-DISH (3474) or
http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/aboutus/contact_us/index.asp

I called them last week and the op had no idea what the hell I was talking about but she wrote down the information. So, call everyday like I did. :D

Dish Network is different from DirecTV.

I have Dish Network, thus I'm fucked... because they're very open-minded on getting the dumbest channels... but they flat out say they will not add the Tennis Channel.

DirecTV is supposed to be getting it though... but I also though Dish Network was buying out DirecTV soon. I don't know.

I e-mailed and called direct tv. I find it absurd that I can get a live horse racing channel in which I can call in bets, but I can't get the tennis channel.

I called Comcast, my digital cable provider and they stated they didnt know if they were going to carry the channel, but they were putting forms in for each caller..... So if you have Comcast, please call!! We're shafted enough with the lack of coverage, atleast give us our channel!!

Just emailed Directv. I hope it makes a difference. Just ya'll watch, once we finally get the tennis channel, 90% of it will be crap instruction shows from Vic Braeden and Nick Boliterri.

yeah, they might be different but they're the same in a lot of ways.

the U.S. gov't is trying to stop the merger but it allows comcast to buy at&t digital cable and AOL to buy Time Warner... wtf?

IF YOU live in San Diego, like me, you can get it on Cox Digital Cable. It will be on channel 367

Leena,

I've seen numerous ads for at Circuit City that DirecTV will be having the channel. I think the Tennis Channel guy said it would be on DirecTV, too.

Well I guess that didnt work because where I live, Virginia, we had ATT and Comcast just bought them out like last month... I just hope sine tehy are a bigger compnay they decide to pick the channel up.

Mase I think you misread my post. I'm saying, they allowed comcast TO BUY ATT but they are NOT ALLOWING Dish Network TO BUY DirecTV, citing the monopoly clause in the constitution. They being the gov't.

I guess it's a moot point since there are OTHER cable companies in the US such as Cox and Time Warner that serve a large demographic. While dish network and directv are the only major national providers of satellite services. Them being under the same company would discourage competition since there'll be virtually no one who could compete with Dish Network/DirecTV on such a large scale.

So I kind of see the gov't's point. hmmmm...

I didn't know that the gov't got involved in the merger.

I'm glad that they are... because here we deal with a monopoly in Adelphia.

I hope that my area receives the Tennis Channel. I have Charter Digital Cable, does anyone know if Charter will be receiving the Tennis Channel? I emailed Charter, but I haven't received a response.

I hope comcast carries the channel. They should because they have the golf channel in their lineup so whats the difference. I think the tennis channel would bring many new viewers into the game and highly surpass the golf channel audience.

Cariaoke
Apr 22nd, 2003, 11:28 PM
well the golf channel is as standard as espn as all the providers that comcast bullied, I mean bought out carried it. I know ATT did, directv does, dish network does, time and the list could possibly go on forever.

I'm pissed that I get SPEED, Outdoor Life, some horse racing b.s. and I'm pretty sure I'd get Curling TV if it existed but I'll probably NEVER get the tennis channel. I'm getting more and more pissed as I read the posts of the people who are getting it. While I'm happy for them it doesn't make my situation any better.

got this email:

Dear Scott:

Thank you for your inquiry about The Tennis Channel. As you know,
DIRECTV makes changes and additions to our programming line-up from time
to time. However, it is a DIRECTV policy not to discuss upcoming
announcements until their official release date, and at this time we
have no official announcement beyond what we have already communicated
to the public. We invite you to visit the News Releases section of our

they were both separate entities. However, DirecTV and Dish Network are basically the only two real satellite providers in the nation. The government stepped in and blocked them from merging because doing so would decrease competition and thereby raising the possibility of higher rates, decreased customer service, and worse of all, lower innovation, including the adding on of newer channels as well, perhaps. In many areas of the US, satellite is the only provider. Whenever there's less competition, it's almost always bad for the consumer. Just look at the oil industry.

there was a big article in the WSJ about all of this, and they said that they were in negotiations with DirecTV. I don't see why they won't carry it.

I have COX here in Baton Rouge. I wonder if it will be carried on the digital cable here, that would be incentive enough for me to go digital!

I just called my cable provider, Time Warner Cable. They told me that they're not going to carry it and have no future plans to do so. Sucks!
