12 1864 12 Monica Seles (USA)
13 1687 26 Elena Dementieva (RUS)
14 1624 24 Magdalena Maleeva (BUL)
15 1544 24 Eleni Daniilidou (GRE)
16 1488 21 Elena Bovina (RUS)

Monica defends Madrid (167, I think)

Notice how it's under 22 players mostly pressing Monica now.

Basically Alyona has nothing to defend until Roland Garros since she lost in 1st round in the big two clay events - Rome & Berlin last year!!!

Oh no! If Monica is seeded #13 at FO, she will face Williamses or the Belgians in Round 4, right?

actually that's good, cause venus and serena are generally not as well prepared in the earlier rounds

She probably will move ahead of Monica since she is playing the German Open and Monica isn't. Monica hasn't even entered Rome and has to defend Madrid.

Unless she plays that well all the time I doubt it, but who knows! Seles might start to play well again. The top 12 are truly gridlocked.

Madrid points won't be taken off until after the FO seedings and draw are out.

Dementieva has 4th round to defend at both RG and Wimbledon... but not much else.

Bovina has nothing to defend after Warsaw until the US Open... so she has a good chance of catching her.

Most likely, Monica won't be gaining any points... I doubt she can reach the SF of a slam.

I'd imagine that Elena will catch Monica by the French open seeing that Monica is only playing Rome between now and then.

It doesn't look like Elena will catch Monica ( in terms of RG seedings) .. Even if Monica plays just one tournament before RG, Elena plays just two. And given the difference and her 18th event, Elena would have to reach Berlin or Rome finals, or reach semis and quarters. Which is not impossible, but will more likely not happen rather than happen.

I doubt it. Monica has no points to defend till RG seedings come out.

I doubt it

Monica is playing Rome before the FO
Lets say she just holds seeding, gets to the QF. Thats what 150 pts? That equals around 2000 pts.
Unless Dementieva plays really really well at Berlin and Rome, she wont catch her as she has 18th tournaments to wonder about.

However, if she continues this good playing, she can very well pass Monica after Wimbledon, but that depends on how Monica does as well

I think Elena can.

But she'll have to play exceptionally well at Rome and Berlin.

Good luck Elena! :)
