1) has anyone ever met them?
2) what were they like?
3) if u have met them where did you meet them?
4) have you ever been to one of their matches?

ive got ladies QF day tickets 4 Wimbledon for Centre Court....and i seriously hope 1) they both get that far and 2) the AELTC put them both on centre court...

if i see them live i would die with excitement never mind about if they spoke to me  id probably collapse and hit my head or stutter while talking or burp in their faces or something :o

but then again im DYING to meet them and im going the whole first week anyway just to see if i can stalk them around the ground :o

so if you hear of anyone being arrested for strange behaviour around the sisters first week of Wimbledon....yea thats prolly me lol :o

im so excited i dont know how im gonna get through the next 2 months :bounce: :bounce: (especially cos i missed Wimby last year...)

Uh oh, you're inviting the haters in to relay their bad experiences with them.

I went to the US Open Final last year, and all I will say is that you will be amazed. Seeing it in person is nothing like TV. They hit the ball with such tremendous power, it's just amazing.

no im just wondering if its wise to approach them or will they diss me in the middle of the AELTC (i dont believe they are that type of people but my friend SWEARS thats what Serena did to her last year) :)

as for the match(es), snipers couldnt stop me from going ;)

Last summer when I worked the open, I was in the players lounge looking for Chanda and I saw Vee and Mashona and I walked up to them and asked if they had seen Chanda as she had a guest...They both looked at me with this blank stare and didnt even answer...

total bitches...

Vee can obviously be very sweet when she wants to be, but she can come off as a stoic bitch to those that don't know her personally...

I dont think it would have taken much out of either of them to say "no, we havent seen her".

Whatever..still love Vee's tennis ;)

I've watched them practicing at the Australian Open a few times(with their mum and family watching them). They seem...well...normal. Most tennis players are. :D Some people stick around the practises to chat and get autographs, but I don't. I kinda feel sorry for them, always having strangers mobbing them.(the again, when they earn as much as they do, it's hard to really feel sorry for them)

We don't talk like that. I have never used dude in my life. I think that's more of a west coast thing.

If you want me to type like we speak, I'll show you how it's done. ;)

First, It's New Yawk, not Nu Yuwork.

N' we tawk like this, motha, weatha, brotha. Basically, we have no r's in owr vocabulary.

N' accordin' to my speach class, we say education wrong. She says it's ed-u-ca-tion. We pronounce it Ed-jew-ca-tion. But, whateva.

Oh, and no g's in ing words, like readin', and workin'.

There is a little lesson for ya. ;)

I was at the sisters match on Court 2 at Wimbledon last year vs. Hrdlickova/Schnyder. We were right behind Hrdlickova/Schnyder's seats but we could still hear a few big laughs from Serena at the changeovers. They signed some autographs but we couldn't get round in time. What struck me seeing them live was how elegant Venus was! Just the way she carried herself on court, you don't get an idea how tall and graceful she is on TV. If you are going to Wimbledon this year SerenaJ, best chance to get close to them would be first couple of days on week 2 if they play doubles. They always get court 2 or 3 as those are the biggest of the outside courts, because I saw them the year before on Court 3 too.

I met serena at the hopman cup and just before she went in to play Iroda and I yelled out that i loved her and she did not even look up. I thought she was rude. After the match i was at the entrance waiting for an autograph and she was very charming. I noticed the same just before she went to play doubles with Blake and she had this stoic focused look and so did James. After the match they were both so relaxed and were chatting freely with the fans. I guess how players respond to fans depends on when you meet them.

I met Serena at the estyle tourney 2000 after her semi-final win over Hingis...she was very pleasant, signing autographs and smiling...what struck me is that I was fairly close to her and it didn't seem like she is 5'10, she seemed a lot shorter :)

When was this??

2001 was the last time she was at Sydney, but that was for doubles. Is that when??

Because she hasn't played singles there since like 1999, or even before.

OMG SerenaJWilliams! I wish you a tremendous good luck, and I hope you're able to talk with them, hug them, and etc LOL! Then you come to tell how it was! BTW I hope you meet them after a victory, then the possibily for them to be in a good humour will be better :D

abby, the problem i have with sjw is that i think she's NOT a genuine williams fan. look at fans of other players on this messageboard. do you see them speaking with underlying negativity about their favorites? i don't. i'm sure if a seles fan or clijsters fan, for example, spoke of monica and kim in the way that sjw speaks of both venus and serena, their fans would speak out against that poster.

sjw is, without question, entitled to his/her opinion and he/she is entitled to make these comments just as much as i am entitled to refute them.

I saw Venus & Serena at the US Open last year, they were practicing. After they finished the practice, there was a little girl around 8 years old who approached them and said with her little cute voice "hi venus & serena! i love you! can I have your autograph please". The little girl was eating an ice cream cone, so Venus had the nerve to violently take away the cone from the girl, she threw it on the floor and then Serena crushed it with her foot. And then Venus told the little girl, here's your autograph and she kicked the ice cream cone (what was left of it!) and it came on the little girl's face. The little girl started crying and ran away. Venus & Serena started laughing at her and Venus even said "and don't comeback you bitch!".

SR, is Marcus your idol. Ah I guess imitation is the best form of flattery ;)

This was posted by JD4EVA a few months ago..(hope he doesn't mind)

Venus was more than happy to take photographs and it was at the Casino. She was going to have dinner with Oracene and my friends and I went up to her and ask for a picture. She said "sure" and gave her mother her handbag and said she'd meet up with her. And then we took the picture and Venus was chatting and laughing with us and then Serena came up and said 'Let's go Venus' and we asked Serena for a picture and she rolled her eyes and just walked off.

Venus was really nice and funny, I commented on how long her arms are and she said:

"Honey, these are a pain. Try looking for clothes that have sleeves this long and then you'll realize what pain actually is"

Well getting back to the original subject, I got this from CNNSI Jon Wertheim's Tennis Mailbag

I took my eight-year-old niece to Arthur Ashe Kids Day in New York. All she could talk about was having Serena Williams and Jennifer Capriati sign her ball. Once there, my niece decided that she wanted to stand in front of the players' lounge in an effort to get their signatures. Of course, we saw everyone (Monica, Jennifer, Jelena, etc.), and they all said, "Not right now, after practice." My niece looked at me and said, "I'll never get their autographs because they will be too tired after practice." With a sigh she said, "Let's go." At that moment, who should we walk into but Serena Williams. My niece immediately asked for her autograph, but the gentleman Serena was with stated, "No, not right now." But Serena stopped him by saying, "No, it's OK. Come here little girl." She signed the ball and entertained my niece's conversation about how she was her favorite player. We ended up walking with Serena to the practice court. Serena may not remember this encounter, but my niece will for the rest of her life. Once we returned to Maryland, she told everyone about meeting Serena and getting her autograph. That evening, my niece fell asleep hugging that ball, stating that Serena was her idol. I was happy for my niece. It's nice to meet your idol and not be disappointed.

Regarding the topic at hand, it all depends on when you approach a player whether they'll be more receptive to you. Almost no player will respond to you when they're on their way to a match (and in most cases, after). The best time to catch a player is after a practice session. I posted a thread a few days ago talking about how I got in a good chat with Els Callens at Amelia Island. She had just come from practicing. In fact, most of my really good pictures of players from that tournament came at a time when they'd just finished practicing.

Regarding the Williamses, I don't know how successful you're going to be. They have personal security whereas most other players rely on the tournament's security. I think that unless they're in a "secure" location, their security won't let you get close enough to get in a converstion. At a tennis location anyway.

Im not a huge williams fan and went to see them at the collins cup - you have to appreciate them for their amazing abilitly. serena played first then venus then capraiti - hantuchova followed. Anyway Serena signed about ten autograph's and then left. After Venus' match I think she signed about three and then left the court, capriati signed the most , all the girls seemed genuinely friendly ecept Hantuchova she seemed full of herself(even after losing to capriati)

I always start to wonder where the ideas of them being arrogant come from. Venus seems extremely friendly, sweet and respectful... Such a sunny personality. She took all the time in the world to hand autographs to everybody who wanted one, etc...
I am still waiting for Serena to come to antwerp so I can see her too
