Elena was loose the entire match...she played the right amount of defense with tremendous offense...

Her pathetic serve actually help her win this match...Davenport kept over hitting it because it was so slow...LOL

And to think Elena came up with her biggest serves serving for the match...

Congrats...outstanding play...

If I'm not mistaken the score is 6-4, 5-7, 3-6.

Elena's forehand is one of the scariest things I've ever seen. She just swings her arm and the ball is flying to the other side of the court. Her backhand is some bad ass shot too. You wonder how this girls hasn't won a tournament before.

If she keeps up with this level of tennis, she can go far in no time. Will see.

Again, so sorry Lindsay, I was rooting for you soooo loud

Elena played out of her mind tennis
she just outplayed davenport
actually, Davenport lost serve like 5 or 6 straight times, and she faced breakpoints in like 85% of her service games
Elena played sooo well. And even with that serve she can easily get to #8 or so in the world. And its obvious shes working on it, so I dont see why she cant fulfill her potential of a top 5 player by late next year.

I may be jumping ship, but that was the best match ive seen in quite a while. Her forehand is just rediculous, its literally a missle. Her backhand is one of the best in the business, so much for Hantuchova (whom Elena gave her worst loss to) having the better backhand.

I dont want to jump on her bandwaggon or anything, but im really starting to like this girl. She beat 4 top 15 players in a row, 3 top 10ers, all of whom have been in the top5

Congratulations Elena, and may this be the first of your many, many, titles. (Just dont beat my V again)
Also, hopefully that other blonde russian will get some inspiration ;)

Congrats. to Elena on her first WTA tile. She's a true fighters. Congrats to all the Russians too.

Elena played exceptionally during the midway through the second, and the entire third set. I got tired of her hittng the ball directly at Lindsay, and I was wondering when she was going to start making Lindsay run. Of course, by the third set, Lindsay was exhausted. Smart of ED to make Lindsay run. Also, Elena got a lot of balls back, which frustrated Lindsay.

lindsay played crap. final stop.

actually Lindsay was playing really well
she just got tired and started making errors that gave dementieva the match. She just realized she was being outplayed, she lost serve atleast 5 times for goodness sakes
and as slow as Dementievas serve is, she places it well (although its very predictable) and its so slow that you have to generate your own pace, and Davneport didnt have the footwork, nor the patience, to counter that

well she played crap for exactly those reasons! how can you say she played well when she didnt attack elena's slow serves, didnt have the patience to hang with her in a rally and got frustrated and what not..

Mad-About-Venus
Apr 20th, 2003, 08:14 PM
Agree, Lindsay played well. Elena played extremely well. Lindsay didn't take advantage of of Elena's stinky serve, although, Elena's serve improved a little towards the end, she even came out with an ace. She was on fire.

It is no secret that Lindsay's mobility is her weekness and that's how she lost her match, along with a tone of errors. Elena kept getting all the balls back and waited for the moment to get the angles where Lindsay can't get to. She played smart. She deserved the win. Period.

Yeah that was one hell of a thriller and I am so glad Elena won. She thoroughly deserved it and was all heart out there which I love to see. Her expression when she won was golden!

In the past, I have to say I have found Elena hard to watch and almost slightly stoic. But I have realized that this is just because she is wrangled with nerves and tension.

Today we saw a different Dementieva. One who was a joy to watch and let the tennis flow. Hopeflly now she has got a title her confidence will grow and her game because her potential is staggering.

King Lindsay
Apr 20th, 2003, 09:18 PM
Is it getting to the point where people relish the thought of Lindsay on the other side of the net on finals day?

And earth to many of the people in this thread. elena didn't suddenly grow a rocket forehand this week. It's always been there, if you know, you'd ever seen one of her matches before. Keep in mind, with the exact game you saw on display today, she has languished between 11-25 during the last two years. Why? She's too inconsistent. i don't want to rain on anybody's parade, but to suddenly figure she'll "fulfull her top 5 potential" I think is a little nuts.

Another depressing loss..... but I guess there's not too much to whine about. SF at Charleston, final here. Still pretty good, she's still #5 and moving up. A win would've put a lot more pressure on Justine, but I guess that didn't happen. ppfft. :D

Stop talking that Lindsay played well! That was worst match I watched from her in a long long time-she almost didn't run from the first point of the match-look at her match against Schnyder and her mobility in that match. And this unforced errors from the 100% winners position. She was extremaly tired after yesterday's singles and doubles and it was seen from the first point! If she could play like she did against Capriati and Schnyder she should win in two easy sets!

Lindsay did play well though. I mean it wasn't her best but what player can play their best in 3 straight matches? And of course it was evident that she was tired but she tried to not let that get to her and played with more stamina then I thought she would.

I mean Elena played the match of her life! She had 20 more winners then UE's and Lindsay kept hers even which isn't bad at all. 40 winners against a fast player like Elena is nothing to laugh about.

Doc
Apr 20th, 2003, 10:24 PM
Parts of the match were extremely high standard from BOTH players. Some of the returns and the accurate shots to the lines, on the run, and with power, were incredible.

Lindsay got frustrated by Elena's excellent retrieving, but she made a lot of good shots herself. Elena has always had a lot of power and accuracy off the ground, and won most of the rally exchanges. The big boost for Elena was her self-confidence with her shots and the fact that she (at last) managed to keep her Double Faults down to 2 or 3. Elena did manage to rack her first serve up to 105 mph on occasion, but also served a lot of slower balls.

A great win!

Lindsay played VERY well. I have never seen Lindsay WIN a match when her opponent plays at the level she played at. NEVER. Lindsay just does not win those matches except for maybe the Tulyaganova match at AO but Tulyaganova is not as fast as Elena and makes more errors and is not the best thinker in the world. If a player plays at the level Dementieva played at today then they will beat Lindsay 95% of the time IMO. And guess what? Lindsay is still a great player because you have to play OUT OF YOUR MIND to beat her still!
