I was thinking the same thing!

They should open the voting in October, not April.

I'm confused - I thought the award was about someone who had shown exceptional courage, hence Sanex 'hero' and "The Sanex Heroes Award will honour the player whose self belief and determination are an inspiration to others and a credit to the sport", but on the site it also says "Vote for your favourite WTA Tour player 2003" as though that were the same thing.

I doubt my favourite player will change in the course of 2003, but I don't consider her especially determined or inspirational. On the other hand, as people have said, who knows who is going to do something heroic, etc, this year when it is only April. It looks to me like they don't expect us to vote fairly at all and instead just blindly vote for our favourite, which is a little condescending :(

how could monica even be a hero? that is exactly why this poll sucks, if they are basing it on players performances, then really the only people on the list right now should be Serena, Venus, Justine and Kim, followed by Lindsay coming in 5th. Not even 4 months in to the tour, you can also tell that this is more so favorites. Monica? Has her year even really started? Oh well, favorites will be favorites

It's not based on the year you've had--It's your favorite or someone you consider inspirational...

Vote for Elena Baltacha because she has carried on playing despite liver problems, illnesses & injuries. She is an inspirational player, a proper Sanex Hero.
:D
