nope, she had a good run, but more so an ashley h, run, but a lot better play than ashley. lindsay will come out firing, she should win like 6-2 6-3 :)

If Lindsay doesn't choke, then she will WIN this title.

I would be nice in Elena would win, but I doubt it.

Er, not that I particularly expect Elena to win but she has beaten Lindsay before I think and they've had some close matches. Let's hope Lindsay doesn't underestimate her.

After all, who expected Elena to beat Justine ?

I agree. This maybe why justine played such a poorly composed match. Not that she played poorly but I don't think she played smartly. She might have underestimated Elena and didn't play the way she should have and Elena capitalized on it. I don't think Davenport will have that mentality because she knows what happened to Justine.

I think Elena has a chance and she should just keep being consistent and keep Davenport guessing. I give Elena a chance at winning this title!

ohhh no chance for russian girl ..Lindsay is just too good in these days ..i wonder how did she play in the past 2-3 years comparing to her current form ?..i..if it was not much different ..i am really curious how my idol (Martina Hingis) played against her ...?..coz Lindsay hits too hard ..her shot has too much paces .

Hingis always had huge difficulties with Lindsay. Lindsay wound up winning their head to head, and at times, dominating her.

Lindsay should win tomorrow. Then again, she should've beaten Schnyder for the Zurich title, and Maleeva for the Moscow crown. so it's a little more dodgy these days with her. Add in the fact that Dementieva has obviously done a lot of things right in order to beat Krasnoroutskaya, Coetzer, Hantuchova and Henin. Should be a close match.

Does anyone actually think Elena can close out a championship right now? Remember the Ordina Open last year, how she fell apart against Eleni Daniilidou after leading by a break in the final set. Since then I don't think she's become any stronger mentally, do you guys? If she gets in a winning position tomorrow (doubtful with the way Lindsay's been playing), then I think she will choke again. Meanwhile Lindsay is over those mental monkeys and is back winning titles again this year. :D

i agree that dementieva will give some challenge tomorrow.... and seeing their recent h2h, lindsay won the last meeting in 2001 at los angeles... before that elena beat lindsay twice (lindsay retired in one of the matches).... lindsay dominated the 5 previous meetings before elena's first win over her.... it should be an interesting match but lindsay will pull it off eventually i reckon.....

Lin-C needs to win this match to re-establish herself as a dominating force in women's tennis. It doesn't make sense to me that she loses to Henin and Clijsters. As good as they are, Lindsay is much more experienced. Could it be younger players give Davenport trouble? ;)

It's worth noting she beat both last fall.

She's on a one match losing streak to Justine, and a two match losing streak to Kim. it's nothing like her struggles with the Williamses. not yet, anyway.

I can't bellieve so many people think Elena will make Lindsay play!! First of all I think Ashley on her run played better tennis. Elena is having trouble with her service game and has been a bit spotty. She still though made it thus far and has a shot cause she is in the final.

Anyway, I think Lindsay is going to blow her away. 6/1 6/2 maybe even a bagel. Elena is too inconsistant off the ground for Davenport and her serves will get blasted off the court and back in her face. Lindsay will have many second serves to eat.

Lindsay in two easy sets will not be tested at all. Could be a bagel here or a few breadsticks.

If I am so wrong, then I eat crow, have no problem with that at all.

Do you really think so Dawn. Elena always gives Lindsay fits and I think she may be fresher since Lindsay has been playing doubles and singles. I hope Lindsay can win but I wouldn't count Elena out. She has really improved her game except for her second serve and Lindsay's serve has not been that great this week.

Check the H2H. She DOES NOT always give Lindsay fits. She has a career 2-6 record, one of Elena's wins was an injury retirement, the other was that very impressive Chase match where she saved a matchball. But five of Lindsay's six wins came in straight sets. I don't rate Elena as a huge Lindsay killer.

Bis, Clijsters and Henin are only improving. Right now, they are ahead of Lindsay, and I think they deserve to be. Lindsay still probably has an edge in her matches with Justine, but she's dropped 5 of her last 7 with clijsters.

I really think so. Elena is a few levels below Jennifer. Lindsay is a different player. Elena serves are too slow and inconsistant. Lindsay hits better groundstrokes.

I'm tellin yah I wouldn't mind Elena winning her first title here at all,but with the way she played Henin, I just can't see it happening.

i hope I am surprised and Elena wins her first title though.

Apr 20th, 2003, 05:05 AM
Depends on how Lindsay is serving and her body language... If her serve is on then I say straight sets but then again Dementieva might surprise me.

Don't care much for Dementieva but it's nice to see players win their first title. Already this year Molik,Dechy and Tamarine have won their first titles, so maybe that's a good omen for Dementieva

Dawn Marie
Apr 20th, 2003, 05:26 AM
I thought Dechy won a few before?

Elena had bad negative movemoment as well. The movement is a toss up though.

What I am going to be looking at is how well Elena plays when it is a first title that she is after on the line.

I like this stuff. Watching players play when it is one of their greatest moments in their tennis careers. Remember this is not a Henin match this is an I can win my first title match. a whole different ball-game.

WILL ELENA BATTLE HER NERVES, PUSH LINDSAY AROUND? WILL LINDSAY ATTACK SECOND SERVES AND REMAIN CONSISTANT? WILL ELENA COME OUT FIRING FROM ALL CORNERS,EAGER FOR THE TITLE?

STAY TUNED

FOR "AS THE WTA TENNIS WORLD TURNS"!! LOL

If Lindsay comes out firing like she has all week, sorry folks but Elena will be in deep trouble.

Lindsay is definitely the most powerful player Dementieva will have faced all week.

However, if Elena can stay aggressive throughout and mix up her shots she does have a chance. But trying to trade groundstrokes Linds will only be her downfall.

Elena must move lindsay around and she should win straight sets like a 7-5 6-3 victory or otherwise davernport will win in 3 sets... 6-4 3-6 6-1

Nobody can move Lindsay around... 'cept for the Williams Sisters ;) She's just too powerful and aggressive. It's Elena who wll be doing all the running in this match. She just has to hope that Davenport's game is a bit off and she starts to miss some easy balls, like she did in the IW final.

Well don't be to sure of DAvenport's win because you can't get into a final without playing great. Elena smashed Hantuchova from the court, played excellent against Justine Henin-Hardenne so Lindsay watch out :)

And fairly so, but to actually question how many games she'd take was kinda cocky!! ;)

Well we saw how many games she took and how she blew Lindsay away.

Congrats Elena, good luck Lindsay! :)
