I really can't believe it. The one player (no really) who I thought would never come back from match point did it! Shit Elena what do you have to take your fans through.

Elena showed alot of heart...

She deserved the win...

Her pathetic serve actually worked to her advantage...it was so slow and short in the box that Juju kept having to lunge for it and would either miss it or give up a short ball...

Elena's groundies were lethal though...alot of Juju's errors were truly forced...

I was amazed that Elena actually bullied Justine off the ground from both wings. I thought that at least on backhand side Henin would have a clear advantage. As I hoped, slower surface helped Elena's backhand. And if Elena would be better at putting out short balls and would come in on the right shots, it would not be that close.. And serve.. Oh that serve..

tenn_ace
Apr 19th, 2003, 07:40 PM
yeah serve... slower than mine actually

but a win is a win! good luck Lena in the final!!!

SO great to see her hang in there after blowing her 3rd-set lead. :hearts:

Justine is my favorite player but she did nto really deserve to win today, her game was just plain off -- no big deal, kid, just go back home & get ready for Fed Cup & European clay!

NOW ELENA: IF YOU ARE GOING TO BEAT MY JUSTINE, THEN PLEASE WIN THE TITLE! Why not? :D :D :D

I can't imagine Alyona is the one who stops the winning streak of the woman who beat Serena Williams a week ago.

Congratulations Alyona, you are a threat again!:)

Good luck in the final, hopefully against my Jennifer!:)

Wow!!! Elena!!! However, I expected Justine to lose sooner or later. She is not as consistent as Kim or Serena, and Vee. I remember being shocked at her score against Chanda at the Erricson Open. I could not believe it, but I have to say on clay this is a bit of a suprise but not really. Anyone can lose, and it's no big deal. Her level must be high if she got to 7-5 in a third set.

Congrats to Elena!! Great fight!
I am not surprised though, she is a great player and she trashed Hantuchova the other day. She also came a lot to the net.
I predicted Justine in three, but seeing the stats her serve wasn't good and she made way too many forced/unforced errors.
I hope Jennifer wins now.

My thoughts exactly.

Justine couldn't do enough with the return of serve, and once a rally got going, Elena played smarter, safer, and harder.

I know I have talked about Elena's serve already, but I just can't believe how slow it is...her swing is so slow...their is hardly any knee bend and no racquet head speed...

Does anyone know if she has a fulltime coach?

I seriously do not like the girl but congrats anyway. Her yelp and her comments about my girls in '01 add to my STRONG dislike for her. Congrats to her for the biggest win of her career.

Justine didn't deserve to win after her pathetic play. I swear it was like I was watching Serena losing to Justine a week ago all over again. Does that make sense?

Welll I think Elena got caught up in the media hoopla about V&S when she made those comments and maybe a lil jealousy...because at the time, she was playing well and thought big things were ahead for her...

But she is really a sweet girl...she was a fave with almost everyone who I worked the Open with...

I'm sure the last two years have humbled her...

I rather think that fitness could still be a problem. She looked tired, and that, even with the break that she got with Fernandez.. And Dementieva didn't play less tennis than her in last two weeks, and she played more than her in last three weeks..

No, I rather think that it was that bad injury in Hilton Head two years ago.. She was playing very well before that injury.

I'm stumped! I cannot believe Justine was defeated. I thought for sure that after that match with Monica Justine would win. Perhaps she underestimated Elena and just didn't play all that well? I saw the last part of the match on ESPN2 and I've got to say Elena was palying very aggressively and Justine just looked really off missing a lot of easy points and her backhand shots and slices were going into the net.

I hope Berlin, Rome, and Paris turn out differently for Justine!

What a great win! :D :D :D
Elena, you have done really well! :worship:
I was like having heart attack in the third set.Justine bounced back when Elena was 4-1 up.Then,Justine won four games in a row to lead 5-4.I was mad!But Elena saved the MP and won the game to 5 all.Alyona then went up to 6-5.I was afraid that Justine would make it to a TB.Amazingly,Elena saved all those BP's at last and won the first MP!
Good luck in the final!I am sure you can do it!You can win your first title,Elena! :bounce:

I didn't see the match (cuz I live in fucking Canada), but the stats sure aren't that pretty. hard to win with 55 UE's, huh Justine?

I would say Elena's had bigger wins than this. Such as her win over her opponent in the final at chase 2000. Here's hoping history will not repeat itself. ;)

I didn't see the match, but we know from Henin her match against Kapros that she has troubles with weak serves. I know Henin was ill at RG, but still she couldn't do anything with the weak serves of Kapros.

Elena has definitely has had bigger wins, but this might turn out to be a career-changing tournament for her. This win really came at the right time and on the back of wins over Coetzer and Hantuchova, this victory might well be a tonic for her recent mediocre play. The last time she had a win as big as this, yes over Linds at the Chase, she was still "coming out" and probably didn't realise the signifciance of it. All her success came in a matter of three months with a US Open semi, silver medal and Chase semi. After 2 years striving unsuccessfully to reach that level again, this might just be the "i'm back" party.

Stop making excuses she got her butt kick; And did you know that last week when Justine beat Serena Serena was hurt? I bet you did not know that.

Being tired is just a fact perhaps that the commentator said...& yes it's true that Justine didn't play well due to not being strong enough for Elena on that day. We are not saying Justine lost because of some excuse.
