Did selesrules see this coming? I want to know.

Also, it's quite amazing that Henin-Hardenne beat Seles by the exact score that he said Henin-Hardenne would beat Serena. Karma's a b*tch, ain't it? LOL. ;)

Justine's game is definitely in high gear now, she's got that serve working ... :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

But Monica

Not an easy match for a huge fan of both :(

Apr 18th, 2003, 05:51 PM
Well Done Justine

Apr 18th, 2003, 05:57 PM
:( :sad:Monica

Apr 18th, 2003, 05:58 PM
Justine must be playing really well. Almost double the number of winners to UE's. I thought she might be tired from winning Charleston but its obviously not affecting her. Well done Justine.

Apr 18th, 2003, 06:10 PM
Well, I think tiredness would have been more of a factor if she hadn't had the rest when Clarisa withdrew =P

And her first round match wasn't too difficult for her so it probably didn't have a big affect on her fatigue =P

Well beating Monica is still a big thing ;)

Apr 18th, 2003, 06:14 PM
Well Monica has almost an entire month to keep healing for Rome. That should be a fun event. She is going to be a very low seed again.

Apr 18th, 2003, 06:20 PM
Congrats Justine. :) Work on that serve Monica.

Apr 18th, 2003, 06:21 PM
Juju is pretty good.

Apr 18th, 2003, 06:28 PM
Great done, Juju... but Monica's stats are quite good as well. Most games went to deuce, so it was a bit tight. Great job Justine.

Apr 18th, 2003, 06:29 PM
Congrats Justine!!! Great!!!

Dani or Elena D ... Shouldn't be a problem if you can beat Monica ....

Apr 18th, 2003, 07:23 PM
Monica was really grunting out there :)

Apr 18th, 2003, 07:40 PM
Congratulations Justine! Good Luck in the your next match.

I guess there isn't any chance Monica will play J&S Cup.. well I hope Monica will be ready for Rome. Hopefully her serve will be better by then.

Apr 18th, 2003, 07:42 PM
Lets not get down on Monica here. From what I saw, she played very well. It was just that on every chance she had, Justine thumped a winner by her. On top of that, Monica is taking more chances by COMING INTO NET! She was up there a lot today. She blew a few easy volleys, but thats beside the point. This new style will take time and its good to see her get the fuck ups out of her system NOW so she'll be armed and ready with this new game plan at RG. Very encouraging stuff from Moni.

Apr 18th, 2003, 07:45 PM
Did anyone see that MPH on Juju's serve...114

Dementieva needs to hire Juju's serve coach!

Apr 18th, 2003, 07:49 PM
3 last points of the match :

113mph ace
114mph ace
match point : 112 mph service winner!!! ( according to Jacksonville.com

Have you seen Justine first serve percentage? ;)

Apr 18th, 2003, 08:00 PM
Monica had plenty of chances . More match play and Monica will be seriously contending again...

Apr 18th, 2003, 08:15 PM
Im just glad to see Monica out there on the court again, which Im sure all of her fans on. I mean to have what, a month off due to injuries and come back and have to face Juju in a quarters is of course going to be a tough match for her. Not to mention this is the same player that very handily took Serena out last week, and we all know even when Serena is having a bad day she's still good! LOL. So Im definitley happy with/for Monica, and cant wait to see her out there again!!!!!!!

Juju is on fire!

Apr 18th, 2003, 10:38 PM
Monica  :(

Well, in her first tournament back, Justine was just too good, she'll get revenge though

Apr 18th, 2003, 10:39 PM
We may seen the last of the days when Monica is actually a threat to win a big clay event. Any individual player has watch out when they play her, but its been almost three years since she won anything bigger than a Tier III on clay.

Apr 18th, 2003, 11:02 PM
thats because its been 3 years since shes played a full season on clay

2001 Madrid-Injured 2nd
2002 Charleston-Injured, Madrid WON, French Open QF
2003 Amelia Island QF, Rome ?

Apr 18th, 2003, 11:10 PM
2 Bad for Monica but Justine is playing very well at the momment, I just hope Elena can have a shot at her.

Apr 18th, 2003, 11:26 PM
Last year, Justine's fastest serve was around 109 and average was 99. This year, I saw her average and fastest serve were better than Serena's in AO. Surprised me. And the speed is still growing.

Apr 18th, 2003, 11:28 PM
well done justine! sounds like you played amazing!
Keep it up!!

hasn't it been three years since Monica won anything higher than a Tier III? Or does that Brazil tourney count as a Tier II?

I guess justine's playing on a higher level right now. No shame in a loss to her, especially two matches back from a protracted injury layoff.

Apr 19th, 2003, 12:06 AM
Brazil is Tier II
but yes it has been awhile

King Lindsay
Apr 19th, 2003, 12:10 AM
Well if Brazil's a Tier II, and she won that in '01, I guess it's only been a year and a half. Still, that is a while.

Apr 19th, 2003, 12:13 AM
yeah it is awhile, but shes been in 2 finals this year alone, and had a championship point against Justine in Dubai

Which of course, doesn't change that it's been a while ;)

Regardless, I was just wondering.. is it time to consider Justine "elite" or should we have been doing that for some time now? ;)

Apr 19th, 2003, 12:25 AM
when someone reaches a GS SF and then GS Final, shouldn't that be considered elite? Esp. considering her GS results have been great since (disregarding USO and RG when she was sick)

Apr 19th, 2003, 12:35 AM
Oh Monica! I knew that HH would beat her, but now its only confirmed. :( Well, still, she got to the QFs and got some really good clay court practice. Good luck for RG Monica! :)

Apr 19th, 2003, 01:34 AM
Congratulations Juju :)
  Monica

Definately, imo. But the question was posed in a Volcana thread at some point earlier this year, and many seemed to think that she didnt' qualify as "elite", that she was just "the best of the rest".

Apr 19th, 2003, 03:35 AM
Justine, as I say said earlier

is clearly the 4th best player in the world

she is a very elite player

Apr 19th, 2003, 09:45 AM
i hope monica takes a good rest and decide when it's the right moment to get back.

good job justine. i hope you win this.

Apr 19th, 2003, 10:02 AM
Great match by Justine.

Apr 19th, 2003, 12:17 PM
Monica should take that WARSAW wild card and get some matches under her belt.

Apr 19th, 2003, 11:10 PM
Congratulations to Justine on her win. After the closeness of her last match with Monica I was hoping that she might have been able to convert this one into a win.

No problem though, nice to see Monica back on the court :). Better luck next time.

Apr 19th, 2003, 11:13 PM
Thats what you get for beating Monica and Serena Justine!
