this is a thread for the budding yugoslav star Jelena Jankovic.

I saw her for the first time in the second round of the AO versus Mandy and even though I was cheering for Amanda on that occassion I couldn't help but be taken with her fight and her great game :D

Hopefully she will be making more headlines soon.

She just lost in the quarters of Budapest in a tough three setter

Any other fans out here??? Anyone who knows her upscoming Schedule?

Pfff she lost to Linetskaya 7-6, 6-1
I bet she had a 5-0 lead and then choked as usual...
She has to do something, she is way often losing to players far below her level.

J. JANKOVIC>/E. Dementieva

6-1, 6-4

An interview with:

Q. 6-1, 6-4, it looks easy. Was it easy on the co.urt?

JELENA JANKOVIC: It wasn't easy on the court. The first set I played well, I didn't make many mistakes. I won it 6-1. But then she went to the bathroom when we finish the set, so I little bit got -- I cooled off and I was down 3-love in the second. Then I came back and was 4-3, 4-4, 5-4 and took the set.

But it wasn't easy match.

Q. Also, second last point, you took the racquet. What happened?

JELENA JANKOVIC: Yeah, my grip was wet from playing and my hand was also all sweaty. So I served and I was loose, so it just flew and on the court.

But I was not happy about that. It was a big point, and it just went out of my hand.

Q. The next opponent, your second round?

JELENA JANKOVIC: I don't know. I didn't see. I'm just happy with this win. It's my first win over a Top 10 player, so we'll see.

Q. Is this your biggest win in your career?

JELENA JANKOVIC: Yeah, it's my first win over a Top 10 player so it's my biggest win for now.

Q. Do you have good memories from last year here?

JELENA JANKOVIC: Yeah, last year I qualified here and lost in second round against Amanda> Coetzer>. I lost 6-4 in the third. But it was my first Grand Slam> last year, so I did a good job. I played five matches, I lost to Amanda.

But this year, you know, I won over a Top 10 player so it's better, and I'm still looking forward to the next matches.

Also, like in 2001, I won my junior title here so I have very good memories here in Australia>, in Melbourne.

you're first top 10 victory and for sure it won't be the last

Getting to Know...Jelena Jankovic

Season 2004 has been a breakthrough year for Serbian Jelena Jankovic. The former junior Grand Slam titleholder won her first WTA Tour singles title at Budapest in May, and at the just-completed US Open, she took reigning Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova to three sets.
WTATour.com caught up with Jelena in New Haven.

You had a strong junior career and your pro career is getting better and better, winning your first Tour title this year. What are the major differences that you've made in your game to transition to the pro Tour?
In juniors, the girls are not so strong and there isn't as much variety. The players on the Tour can slice and change up their shots. Also, on the Tour, the girls are much stronger and it's become a much more physical game. I'm not as physically strong, but I'm working on that.

How did you get started in tennis?
I started to play at nine-and-a-half, which is very late for girls, in a club in Belgrade, Serbia. My brother, Marko, who is six years older than me, played at first and I would watch him play and pick up tennis balls during his lessons. I would ask to play and his coach thought I had talent, so I started to play more seriously. But I never thought that tennis would be something that I would do professionally. I thought it would be only recreation, just for fun. My mom wanted me to get involved with some kind of activity to keep me busy after school. I also played piano. At 12, I went to Nick Bollettieri's in Bradenton, Florida. We were first there for a few months, and then I was given a scholarship and then was signed with IMG.

At such a young age, what was it like to be away from home and how do you cope with being on the road for long periods of time?
My mom came with me, but she could only visit a couple days a week here and there, so there were long times when I was alone. It was tough because I didn't know any English and I was going to school as well. I just spoke French, and that was a big help because I could ask the other girls for help. I learned French at a diplomatic school in Serbia that was only for French people like the ambassadors.

So are you fluent in French?
Because I haven't used it for so long, I'm starting to forget, but I understand it.

You travel quite a bit on the Tour. How do you cope with being away for so long? What is the one thing that you always pack when you travel?
I just keep in touch by phone with the people that I care about, like my family. I don't carry anything special.

You train at Bollettieri's in Bradenton, Florida, but you're from Serbia. Which one do you call home?
Now, it's like I have two homes - Bradenton and Belgrade. Whenever the tournaments are in Europe, I stay in Belgrade, and when they are in America, I'll go back to Bradenton for a week or so.

Do you feel a lot of pressure, being only 19?
No, I don't feel any pressure. I'm playing for myself; I don't have to prove it to anybody. I'm just trying to do my best. I think I have a good potential to be at the top.

How would you assess your progress?
I think I could do much better, but there are times when you are not playing so well. Physically, I think I'm behind the other girls, so I have to work on that. I'm happy to have won my first Tour title, but I could do much better.

What are you off-court interests?
I've been asked to do comedic acting in Serbia. I was offered a role in a movie in Serbia. If I have time, then I'll do stuff like that. It's fun to something besides tennis - acting or anything that allows you to get your mind off of tennis. I think if you have talent to do something, then you should do it. Use it to your advantage, take a chance. I think sports are becoming more like show business, so a lot of athletes are doing other things like modeling and acting.

Are you popular in your home country?
I'm starting to be recognised. Serbia is not a very big country. Sometimes, it's an advantage. I'm not famous yet. I think it will be a different story if I was ranked in the Top 10.

What do you think you would do if you weren't playing tennis?
I think I would be studying. I went to a regular school until I was 15. We weren't allowed to miss more than 10 days. I'm going to start university in my home country. I will start in September or October. I don't know what I would like to study, but I think that besides tennis, I should have an education.

You were at the Olympics this year, which were your first Games. What was your favorite memory?
It was really amazing to be at the opening ceremony. It's hard to explain. It was so amazing to see the fireworks and the lighting of the flame.

Who were the athletes that most impressed you?
I stayed with the athletes from my country, so I was able to meet some of the basketball and volleyball players like Dejan Bodiroga (basketball). It was really fun to be around the best athletes in the world.

Rising Chinese Star Li Upsets Jankovic

GUANGZHOU, China - Wednesday turned out to be a bad day for seeded players at the Guangzhou International Women's Open 2004 as three players fell in first and second round action.

In second round action, Chinese qualifier Na Li turned out to be too much for No.2 seed Jelena Jankovic (right), who fell 06 62 76(6). Li, who also took Svetlana Kuznetsova to three sets last week in Beijing, said she learned to relax a little after not winning a game in the first set.

"In the first set, I made many mistakes," Li said. "But I tried to settle down and play longer points, which got me into the match. It was very difficult. I think taking nearly two years off playing tennis has me a lot more patient during matches."

Li has compiled a remarkable record in 2004, which climbed to 41-3 following Wednesday's victory. Before taking part in last week's action, all of Li's victories this year had come on the ITF circuit, where she opened the season with a 28-match winning streak.

Jankovic, who was forced to retire in the quarterfinals last week in Beijing due to an ankle sprain, didn't feel she played up to her ability in her first match in Guangzhou.

"It was a bad day for me," Jankovic said. "I'm still injured a little from Beijing. I really relaxed too much in the second set and she started to play great. She is a very good player and I know she nearly beat Kuznetsova last week. I'm sure she will be great for Chinese tennis."

Jelena Jankovic was one of three seeded players to lose on Wednesday at the inaugural Guangzhou International Women's Open.

Jankovich, the 36th ranked player in the world and seeded two here, got off to a fine start but faded before succumbing to Chinese qualifier Na Li in a three-set thriller 0-6 6-2 7-6 (8-6).

Jankovic, who had received a first-round bye, was playing her first match since retiring on Friday in the quarter-finals of the China Open against Maria Sharapova because of an ankle injury.

No big names but Palmer is happy http://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gifhttp://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gifASB Bank Classic tournament director Richard Palmer is happy with standard of field despite no top 20 players cominghttp://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gifhttp://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gifhttp://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gif24 November 2004
ASB Tennis Classic director Richard Palmer says the Auckland tournament still has a strong field despite not having any top twenty players.

The field for the January tournament was officially announced at a function in Auckland today.

Palmer says players outside the top 20 bracket are getting better every year.

He thinks the field will almost always be made up of players ranked in the 40s, 50s and 60s, but it is a lot harder to be ranked there now than it was a couple of years ago.

Palmer says the Auckland event has to compete with Australia's Hopman Cup, which attracts the cream of the tennis crop.

He says to make matters worse there is a new exhibition tournament in Hong Kong with six top twenty players.

World number 26 American Amy Frazier, 28th ranked Serbian teenager Jelena Jankovic and Greek defending champion Eleni Daniilidou will be the top three seeds in Auckland.

Palmer says Jankovic has a sound record this year, having beaten five or six players in the top twenty.

Kiwi junior Marina Erakovic has been granted a wild card with the possibility that a top 50 player could receive another.

As I'm bored because of off-season,just looked for Jeca things and found this article. It praises Jeca's game a lot.I thought I should share it with all of you:

Jelena Jankovic def. Vera Zvonareva 6-4, 6-4

By Christopher N Rourke - October 30 2004

The match began with an outstanding pass off the backhand a Jankovic winner that not even Zovonareva could retrieve. This set the tone for a dramatic match in which the brilliant Jankovic unveiled the full range of her talent, including a full-blooded all-court game and extraordinary movement.

Jancovic achieved her break with startling ease, pre-empting a ripple of surprise from the crowd. She then backed up the break, serving two aces, for a comfortable hold. There followed a very tight third game on Zvonarevaís serve, in which Jankovicís destructive shots flowed, taking her deuce and then advantage, before Zvonareva dug in hard, clinging on after several deuces. It wasnít as though Zvonareva was playing poorly she was playing well

Jankovic was simply playing superlative tennis (http://www.sportnetwork.net/#). A frustrated and ill-tempered Zvonareva took out her frustration on a hapless ball boy after successive winners from Jankovic. In the fourth game Jankovic further asserted herself with
excellent movement off hers serve, moving sinuously from attack to defence and then to attack, unleashing some stunning backhands: 3-1 Jankovic. By the fifth game the apparently more powerful Zvonareva was doing a lot of retrieving just to stay in the points; that she managed to hold her serve says a lot about her capacity for endurance. At 4-3 Jankovic delighted the crowd with a single-handled backhand retrieval shot, which died in Zvonarevaís forecourt.

At 5-3, and under terrific pressure once again, Zvonareva managed to hold but not before Jankovic forced a another long deuce game through a combination of touch and power, including some gorgeous drop shots. This meant that Jankovic had to serve out the match, not an easy task against for a qualifier playing a top fifteen-ranked player. Jankovic played three loose points to fall 0-40 behind on her service, and for a few nervous minutes seemed as though order might be restored to the higher ranked player. However, two excellent shots brought Jankovic back to 30-40. An ace took her deuce. Jankovic would not be denied and took the set 6-4.

Jankovic held in the second game before breaking in the third; her outstanding all-court ability swamping Zvonareva; in the fourth game Jankovic held again with some excellent play to back up the break: 3-1 Jankovic. Zvonareva demonstrated some steely resolve to break for the first time in the match and level the set at 3-3, before Jankovic, sending danger, broke right back to 4-3. When Jankovic held to 5-3, in an excellent service game, employing marginally more conservative play, there could only be one winner: Jankovic served out 6-4 6-4 with some aplomb.

Zvonareva played her part in this match, always trying to fight back to parity, but the day belonged to Jankovic, who played some of the best tennis on the Tour this year, in this match. This must give confidence to the nineteen-year-old Jankovic, who was an unknown quantity at the start of year, before announcing her arrival by comprehensively defeating Elena Dementieva in the first round of the 2004 Australian Open. Her game seems to improve with every month and in a sport in which many of the leading exponents lack a faceted, varied game Jankovic should flourish in the next few months on Tour. A top twenty ranking beckons.

Nije me demoralisao poraz u drugom kolu.

Throne awaits the princesses
A. PALIĆ 31.10.2004, 18:32:56

Overnight they became the darlings of our nation. During the past two weeks the two Belgraders exploits in european tournaments against world-class opposition relegated football and basketball news into the background for the country's sports lovers. Jelena Janković and Ana Ivanović demonstrated the growing strength of Serbian tennis and gave an indication that we will be cheering them on to title wins next year.
Maybe Jelena didn't come away with the title in Linz but the journalists and spectators reaction was that she played the most attractive tennis. Jelena got lots of support from the fans and left the court with flowers and a standing ovation after every match.

- I beat the 11th ranked player in the world, Zvonareva, easily beat Schnyder who is ranked 15... I would have liked to have won against Mauresmo in the semis but gambled away my chances when it was 2-2 in the second set. I had two break points which i didn't take advantage of and later injured a muscle in my right arm. I was in Belgrade yesterday to take care of the injury - explains the Red Star Belgrade player.

Jankovic has the oportunity to continue her series of impressive reults in Philadelphia

- I'd like to finish this season with the highest possible ranking so that i can compete in the Australian Open as a seed and have a more favorable draw. Soon, I will also employ a top coach which is essential at this level - explains Jelena who, after Philadelphia, returns to Belgrade to begin preparations for next season.

Despite a muscle injury Ana Ivanovic managed to reach the quarters in Luxemburg.

- It could have been even better but this was a good performance. It's important that I've entered the top 100 and will be in the main draw at the upcoming Australian Open - says a content Partizan Belgrade player.

- I gained a lot of self-confidence in Zurich and Luxemburg which will serve me well in the next season. I'm particularly pleased with my performance in the match against Venus which I had a chance to win.

Ana is spending the next days in Belgrade afterwhich she'll take a 2-week holiday in Switzerland with her family.

- I planned to go to the seaside but I'll have a good rest in Switzerland too. I've got a bit of a cold at the moment and will be celebrating my 17th soon... lots of things have happened recently. Rest and family is the most important thing for me right now.

In tennis circles there has been a lot of muttering with regards to an impending move to Switzerland.

- The whole story was fabricated by one Swiss "reporter". The only thing I mentioned in the press conference was that Zurich was quite nice. My sponsors are mainly from Switzerland as is my coach Kuharski but that's it. I am a Serbia-Montenegro tennis player - says a smiling Ana.

Dec 26th, 2004, 06:37 PM
Good luck Jelena in 2005

Dec 26th, 2004, 06:37 PM
Jelena is becoming quite a star in Serbia! :D
Now she's certainly more popular than Dokic.

The latest on her is that she has changed the club. She is no longer at Crvena Zvezda, she went to Partizan. It caused a lot of discussion as those two clubs are huge rivals in all sports.

Dec 27th, 2004, 11:27 AM
Thanks for the website its nice !!!

Good luck Jelena in 2005 !

i listened her interview, she is speaking English well but her pronunciation is not perfect, you can feel some Serbian accent...

Dec 27th, 2004, 06:54 PM

@Erdinger: what is jelena's voice like? does she have the serbian accent? does she speak fluent english?
Her voice doesn't sound really beautiful I must say :o
A couple of months ago she was a guest at one of the most popular talk shows in Serbia and at times her voice really sounded too funny, though I think she was pretty nervous and that might have something to do with it.

Dec 27th, 2004, 09:57 PM
Is she famous in Serbia?I mean if she is in a popular talk show she might be but what do I know... I guess if she starts getting bigger in 2005 (as we all hope) she'll have to get used to more & more interviews...

Dec 27th, 2004, 10:21 PM

She's well on her way of becoming a media star. :)
This year she already appeared a lot on TV, there were tons and tons of articles in newspapers and magazines about her, she was talked about a lot on the Internet etc.
But I guess it must have been quite stressful being on the show so many people watch and having to talk about private matters - she blushed when they asked her if she was in love. She said: "I can't tell, my mother is in the audience." :o

Dec 27th, 2004, 10:49 PM
I beleive we need to knock over Dokic's fourm and turn it into one for both of them...I sure think it's time Jankovic has her own fourm :)

Dec 27th, 2004, 11:06 PM
That would be nice that Jelena had her own forum.but maybe Dokic fans don't agree we "invade" their space...

Thanks Joana for your answer!!I can imagine poor Jeca blushing...

Dec 27th, 2004, 11:08 PM
There's a Jelena forum in that adress:

The site is a forum for Serbian players.

Dec 28th, 2004, 12:20 PM
thanks ! :)

Dec 28th, 2004, 08:52 PM
Well I already suggested making Dokic's forum into a forum for all Serbian players, but the people there started bitching and whining so I don't think it will go anywhere.

Dec 28th, 2004, 09:31 PM
Yeah I read it and posted in that thread.Maybe if more people tell it they'll finally do it.But this Dokic fans seem a little bit too much.If there were a forum for all serbian players, and don't like the rest, they just have to not post in the other players' thread...It's not that difficult.

Dec 28th, 2004, 09:34 PM
This is the thread Joana was talking about:

Let's all post here and see if we're heard!!!

Struggling with the body clock http://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gifhttp://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gifJelana Jankovic is struggling to get her body clock into New Zealand time ahead of ASB Classichttp://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gifhttp://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gifhttp://home.nzcity.co.nz/n.gif2 January 2005
ASB Classic second seed Jelana Jankovic is struggling to get her body clock into New Zealand time.

Jankovic arrived in New Zealand three days ago.

She says she is not used to the time difference which has resulted in some bizarre sleeping patterns.

Jelena Jankovic says she is trying to acclimatise herself to New Zealand's conditions in time for the Classic starting tomorrow but she is struggling to come to terms with Auckland's bizarre summer weather.

Jan 3rd, 2005, 10:06 AM
Heya everyone! I never saw this thread before and it's really cool, so is it allright if I post here?

Good Luck to Jeca against Schaul..it's true it was a difficult match before for Jeca, but now I think she is much improved as player and now this match will not realy be a big problem.

Also, I really hope we can get the Dokic forum renamed to a forum for all the Serbian players :). That would be cool :) Also, I agree with u guys that Serbian Sensations is for sure a nice name. It's a shame cos at the moment the Dokic forum is hardly posted on at all, so it might as well be changed..cos then more people would post on it.

Anyway, ajde Jelena in NZ and I hope that it's okay for me to post more here in the future?

Jelena -xxx-

Jan 3rd, 2005, 02:01 PM
Of course you can post in here everytime you wish...with more Jelena successes coming soon (we all hope) there will be a lot to talk about.

Has she already played Schaul? I looked for the result and couldn't find it.

Anyway,GO JELENA!!!!!

Jan 3rd, 2005, 04:12 PM
I'm already a bit nervous. :o
We all know that Jeca is more than capable of beating Schaul, but also some of her losses can be pretty :bolt: :banghead:
So I just really, really hope she left her inconsistency behind in 2004. Let's go girl, have a great start of the season. :yeah:

Jan 4th, 2005, 12:13 AM
Our girl won! Jankovic def. Schaul 7-5 6-2 :worship:
She is having some trouble with her health - sore throat or something. Hope it's nothing serious. :)

Jan 4th, 2005, 10:07 AM
she's not feeling well and she can still play so impressively in the 2nd set. she's GOOD. VERY GOOD! :D

Jankovic opens account in Auckland

A flu-weakened second seed Jelena Jankovic relied on instinct as she struggled to a 7-5, 6-2 win in her first round match at the WTA tournament in Auckland.

The 19-year-old Serbian, who soared up the world rankings from 82 to 28 last year, had not hit a ball for three days before taking the court against Luxembourg's Claudine Schaul.

She was fortunate Schaul was her own worst enemy, blowing several chances in the first set.

But Jankovic said that if she could shake off the illness she should do well as the tournament progresses.

"It was really tough for me because I could not breathe," she said. "I did not have much energy, I feel weak and slow.

"But I'll do what I can, I'll deal with it. If I can play my game, if I feel a little bit better, I will be okay."

There were no problems for Japan's fourth seed Shinobu Asagoe, a quarter-finalist at the US Open last year, who whistled past Ukrainian Tatiana Perebiynis 6-4, 6-1 as she aims for her first WTA title.

Jan 5th, 2005, 09:11 AM
she beats Llagostera-Vives 6-1 6-0 :)

Btw, thx for saying I can post here :)

Jan 5th, 2005, 10:25 AM
That was easy. :)
Nice job, Jeca, good luck against Bartoli now! :worship:

Jan 5th, 2005, 11:57 AM

Question: We saw you few times watching fashion shows in person. Do you like fashion?

I have that opportunity to travel a lot and follow what's new in fashion in Paris, Rome, New York... I like fashion and when I have time for it, I like to attend a fashion show of world famous designers, and few times I' ve been asked by them to try their brands.

Question: Who's your favorite designer?

I like Calvin Klein, Gucci and JFF.

Question: Do you have a boyfriend?

There are always nice, interesting young guys, but tennis is my top priority at the moment.

Question: Where do you plan to spend New Year's Eve? I wanted to spend New Year's Eve in Belgrade, but I have to play tournament this week. I hope my mom and I will have a good time here in New Zealand.

Question: Any fans comment you recently remembered?

I liked one guy's comment. He said I was a real refreshment with my black hair after few top blond Russians girls ( laugh).

Question: What's that inside of you that tells you you can be the best?

People ask me how can I tell I will enter top ten this year. It's simple. Each time I go on the courts, I feel I can win, that is all about me, even if I play with the best player in the world. The feeling I have when I play, my joy can't be compared with any other feeling. That's love that gives me hope that I can be the best in this game. I already proved that I can play with the best. This year our matches will be even more interesting. Coming back to Belgrade really means a lot to me. When I talk with people that aren't big tennis fans, how they watched my matches and talked about it for days.

Question: What's your biggest tennis dream?

My dream is to win a Grand Slam. Australian Open is my favorite, but I'm not too picky ( laugh).

Question: How about Monica's help?

Monica ( Seles) is my mentor, and her experience is helping me a lot. I did few practicing with her last year and we keep in touch. We talk in Serbian of course. I would like to play a match with her in Belgrade, but we will see.

Jan 5th, 2005, 04:17 PM
She seems so sweet...I remeber that comment about the black hair...It was on her guestbook in her website :)

Jan 5th, 2005, 05:04 PM

Jan 5th, 2005, 05:11 PM
you're welcome,daniela86.I also think Jelena can only benefit from Monica's advices and I'm very happy that my all-time favourite player (Monica, that is) is taking time to work with my new up-and-coming favourite player.I also think she can take Auckland title home, but let's not forget she has a flu, let's take it match by match...Best of luck today against Bartoli!!!! good luck and beat some big names there, jelena!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Jan 7th, 2005, 03:35 PM
Well if she was not feeling well and it was a hard match (judging by the score),Jelena might have lacked of forces in the end.

Well, good thing she's playing Sydney next week. This means she feels strong enough. All I want her is to do well in AO.It's shining in the Grand Slams where players get more recognition,so let's all hope for a healthy and good AO for Jeca.

Ajmo Jeco in Sydney!!!

Jan 7th, 2005, 04:00 PM
you know, i think jelena should work on her fitness, i know she had a flu but i saw her play in linz, and she beat amelie 6-4 in the 1st set and in the 2nd set, there was this rally which could be 20shots long, right after it she was panting and like bending down to catch her breath, and her last set was quite bad 6-1 or something like that?
yeahh but anyway go jelena! i still think you talented!!

Jan 9th, 2005, 01:49 PM
jelena plays this night against elena likhovsteva!! good luck jela!!! :bounce: last time they played, jelena was up 5/2 in the 3rd set and lost :o hope she'll do better at sydney!! ajdeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Jan 12th, 2005, 09:02 AM
GO GO GO GO ALLEZ ALLEZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bounce:

Jan 12th, 2005, 12:04 PM
jankovic lost to molik, but i am not sure the score. if i am not wrong, in straight sets.. sorry. to say that.

i like jelena.

Jan 12th, 2005, 05:13 PM
yeah I saw the match on tv.SHe lost 6-3,6-4.The Aussie was too strong for her, specially her serves were "bombs",that Jelena could not do much + she missed some easy shots into the net.I saw Jelena was looking "out of breath" after some rallies as three already pointed. It's true that Molik made her run a lot today and it looked very hot out there, but still it's a little worrying...Anyway I'll keep supporting her no matter win or lose.I have big faith in her and I'm sure next time she'll do it better.Oh wow and what a cool girl she seems to be,she applauded some Molik's spectacular shots.Isn't that so nice from her?

Ajmo Jeco in AO!!!!

Jan 12th, 2005, 05:15 PM
Oh yeah, and I found a photo of her from her match today ;)

Jan 12th, 2005, 07:53 PM
it is a shame, next time for sure. You know Veronika Jelena doesn't have the coach with
her for a along time and still she playing great tennis.Jelena is the best out there. :worship:

Jan 12th, 2005, 08:11 PM
:worship: to jelena for being fair-play!! :) :)
molik is her darkhorse,i hope she won't face her at oz open :scared:
good luck jelena for the 1st grand slam in the year      :)

Jan 12th, 2005, 08:49 PM
I'm also hoping she won't draw Molik too soon at AO.Let's cross fingers for that.Other than that Jelena has to keep with a positive attitude the next time they met.She has the talent to beat anyone, she has to believe in herself!

Jan 13th, 2005, 01:14 PM
Go Jelena,GO........................ :bounce:

Jan 13th, 2005, 01:17 PM

This is really getting old.

Jan 14th, 2005, 06:12 PM
Then let's hope she turns things around this time...You never know,Molik might be tired by then, she might be even eliminated in the firsts rounds...

Ajmo Jeco!!!

Jan 15th, 2005, 01:31 AM
Oh!....It's like a movie..So suspenseful ....I know she will change her record against Molik at the Aussie Open....I know it...I can feel it in my bones!

(23) Jelena Jankovic (SCG) vs. Nicole Pratt (AUS)
The rapidly-rising 28th-ranked Jankovic, who pulled off a huge upset last year, defeating then-No.7 seed Dementieva 61 64 in the first round, will take on world No.53 Pratt, an Australian veteran who won her debut Tour title last year at Hyderabad. With the home crowd behind her, Pratt is sure to provide stiff competition for the 18-year-old upstart. The two have never played before.

Jan 19th, 2005, 10:28 PM
She said she played at only 20% against Pratt. How arrogant!!! Just kidding, of course! ;)
She really should beat Panova tonight. Come on!

Jan 20th, 2005, 07:19 AM
i'm very sad about this result!  sad: jelena had never reached the round3 in a grand slam :o  it's a real pity for such a talented player.:bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: and panova isn't a that good player, she really should win this one.  better luck next time, i suppose

Jelena's comments after the match against Panova...

"I am ashamed of the way I was playing today. It was simply horrible. Nothing worked, I didn't have a single shot working well. I wouldn't be sorry if she played too good for me, but it wasn't like that. I was just a shadow of myself. Right now I don't feel like playing tennis anymore, I would like to pull out of all tournaments, and just practise and practise until I find my game again. And I don't even have a coach now. I'm #27 in the world and I don't have anyone with me. Do you know any other top player who's in such situation?" And she was crying while saying it.

But what really got me was the end:
"Top tennis is extremely difficult. I am always on the move, I never have both of my parents around me and it's terrible. I never get to see my brothers and I miss them very much. I am just 19 and can't have a normal life. I don't even have enough time to fall in love."

OMG :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

OMG :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

she should have known the consequences and the sacrifices she would have to give going into professional tennis.

but by reading this i feeel very sad.i never knew a professional would feel this way. i mean you just look at them and they seem very happy and everything. but deep down inside. something is missing. and they can't let it show. if i were them i think i would kill myself or something.

and to jelena. you can have me. i'll be by your side all the time if you want me! dont cry jelena. its very sad.. :crying2:

brad gilbert's available still... i think..
it's one of the best coach ever :) :) ;) but i don't think he coaches a woman yet. (but all has a first time :p )
melanie molitor too is good and i don't think she is coaching someone since marti retired . She also gave some pieces of advises at casanova, obviously she likes young players: angel: :) :) maybe jelena should try to contact them.

btw this interview is just too sad :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: poor poor jelena                hope she'll feel better soon :D she is used to playing a lot of tournaments, maybe she should cancel some of its to be with her family.

I felt very sad about the loss, but after reading this I feel even sader.Poor Jeca! HOw come she can't find a good coach? I really hope she finds soon one.Well her words couldn't be more pessimistic,I guess they were all due to the loss.Let's hope she can find her game in the next tourney.

Feb 1st, 2005, 08:30 PM

Feb 1st, 2005, 11:22 PM
   things are not looking good for Jeca at the moment.I hope she finds her confidence back soon. Ajmo Jeco!!!

Feb 1st, 2005, 11:53 PM
Maybe a doubles win with Asagoe will help. Doubt it, but hey!

Feb 2nd, 2005, 02:39 PM
go jeca. maybe she's not warmed up yet. :)

Feb 2nd, 2005, 05:09 PM
Damn! She also lost the doubles:

(3)Dementieva/Sugiyama (RUS/JPN) d. Asagoe/Jankovic (JPN/SCG) 63 06 61

                  what a pity! she must have played well in the first set to win 6/1, what happened jela? i definitly think she wasn't concentrated because she doesn't want to fight and to play 100%.Her confidence must be very low, she is in a slump:bigcry: :bigcry: Hope she'll find a better shape very soon!
About doubles, i think it's actually a promising score, Asagoe and her won 6/0 a set  against one of the best pair in da world :) She is better and better in doubles :D It cheers me up a lil :)

Feb 6th, 2005, 10:51 PM
Poor Jelena is in a slump. Hopefully she can comeback in Paris. I HATE her section of the draw. It's not the worst, but since Jelena isn't playing TO great, we needed the worst. Loit is Jelena's first match and not to be a pessimist, but if Jelena groundstrokes are clicking, then Loit will demolish her. Loit is a good player, she's a fighter. I don't know so much about Maggie Maleeva who would be her next round. If she beat Loit she'd have to look forward to Mauresmo in the quaters. If she was to make it to the semi's, she would most likely be playing Petrova or Dechy which isn't bad. I hope she does well.

Feb 6th, 2005, 11:03 PM
i think she can beat everyone this time.(first loit, then maleeva, moresmo, petrova and finally wiliams)

Feb 8th, 2005, 07:03 PM
She beat Loit 6-4 4-6 6-3 in the 1R. That was a much needed win, and apparently she fought hard for each point, which is so good to hear!

Feb 8th, 2005, 07:57 PM
This should be good because Loit is a tough competitor. Good luck in next round. Who is she facing?

Feb 8th, 2005, 11:19 PM
:D wow! Nice to read a win from Jeca.

Anyone saw the match? How did she play? MIght have been a tough fight since Loit is a very difficult player.Well done,Jeca!;) Now Maleeva, right? Go beat her, sweetie!:D

Feb 9th, 2005, 01:10 AM
Yea Jelena!!! I'm so happy I was proved wrong :) Anyone see or hear about the match?

Maggie Maleeva is next. I think we have a good chance.

Feb 9th, 2005, 02:56 AM
go jelena:)

Feb 9th, 2005, 09:52 AM
Jelena, well done!!  She was led 3/1 in the last set but she focused, fought on every points and finally won!!! :bigclap: i'm glad to see that she is finding out her shape little by little, hope she will keep on playing like that and also be as strong mentality as she was against loit.
Go go jelena!! Beat Maggie, i'm sure you can do it!!!  :) we are all proud of you!! :bigclap:

Feb 9th, 2005, 11:28 AM
Some comments from Jeca after the match: she's still physically weak after her illness, and makes too many errors. That is why Loit was difficult to play because she gets everything back. However, Jelena managed to raise her level in the 3rd set and that decided the outcome of the match. She believed in herself and fought all the way to the end, and she regained some of the confidence back. She also says the surface suits her very well. She believes the match against Maleeva will be very difficult, but she believes she can win.
As for the coaching situation, she is negotiating with Eric Van Harpen, but she would like to work with Ricardo Sanchez, but he is still not available.

Feb 9th, 2005, 09:54 PM
Jelena lost her doubles match 6-4 6-1  . She should really consintrate. on singles and doubles. Thats for the interview Joana :) !

Feb 10th, 2005, 02:32 PM
Maybe she needs to take some time off? I don't know, to get to have some time with her family, which is what she obviously lacks, and to work on her game and finally find a coach.

Feb 14th, 2005, 10:48 PM
Jelena isn't playing this week right? Its good for her because she needs the rest and to see her family. Maybe she will hire a coach.

Feb 15th, 2005, 04:46 PM
Jelena withrew 2 tournaments after Paris. She is still suppose to play Dubai. I hope she will play there. Go Jelenaaaa

Feb 15th, 2005, 04:48 PM
When Jelena gets back she will be faster, smarter, and even better looking! So watch out she is coming back...

Feb 16th, 2005, 11:01 AM
She needs a coach so much
Hope she'll play better in Doha :)

Feb 18th, 2005, 01:31 PM
Some news on Jeca:
She pulled out of Doha and is currently in Belgrade, she'll practise here for about a week or so before she goes to Dubai. It turned out the flu she picked up in New Zealand has developed into a severe case of bronchitis. She lost a lot of weight, and therefore alos lost power and was out of shape. That's why she decided to pull out of Antwerp and Doha. Thankfully, she is finally healthy again, and is very much looking forward to the tournament in Dubai, and she wants to prepare really well for it. She also had a chance to spend some time with her family, and it made her feel a lot better. She enjoys playing tennis again, and that's a very good sign indeed. :)
She made some comments on playing in Fed Cup. She said she hasn't talked to Jecmenica yet, but she would like to play, if she is healthy at the time, and would like to play together with Ana and Jelena D. But she says there must be absolutely no room for gossips and jelousy, and the atmosphere has to be good, unlike last year. She says: "That's what cost us victory last year, although me and Jelena Dokic were by the best players in the competition."

The coaching situation should be solved soon. She is in negotiations with Van Harpen and Choudery and she should hire of one them in the next few weeks.

And finally, the quote that made me really glad: "Lindsay Davenport was the best player of 2004. I've already voted for her in Internet poll. She is not like any other player, she is a great person, she is really fair, and very relaxed and nice to everybody." :hearts:

Feb 18th, 2005, 02:47 PM
Thanks a lot for the news on Jeca,Joana ;) I don't know what I would do without your updates. You deserve some rep points for this,I think:D

I'm glad to read she's feeling better (I had a difficult bronchitis also 3 years ago and I know it's not easy, let alone play tennis with it) and had some time to relax by her people. She really needed that.

I hope the coach situation will be soon resolved whoever she choses to work with.So good luck with that also!!!

Also, what happened last year in Fed Cup? I hope she and Ana will get to play together. Also with Dokic it can be a very dangerous team.So I cross my fingers for that to happen.

And again,thank you,Joana.

Feb 18th, 2005, 03:24 PM
Jelena has been nominated for the Newcomer of the Year for 2004 by WTA tour. We will see who wins soon... :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
Go Jelenaaa :hearts: :hearts:

Feb 20th, 2005, 01:24 AM

Go JElEnA :hearts:  :lick:
I love you, many kisses :lick:

Feb 22nd, 2005, 01:46 AM

How about Jelena's game. We need something to talk about while she is enjoying her time at home.

What's wrong and what's right with it? I have only seen a few of her matches, and I love her backhand. Anyone know what surface she likes. I know she is a monster on indoor hardcourts.

Anyone got anything?

Feb 22nd, 2005, 03:18 AM
I saw her match against Pratt both her backhand and forehand were excellent, she can run all day that's for sure. However, her serve is so weak, how can she fix that I wonder?

Feb 22nd, 2005, 11:00 PM
I only saw her play against Sharapova at the US Open but I dont remember. I think she like hardcourts. She has great result indoors last year so hopefully she can do good later on. GO JELENA IN DUBAI!!!!!!!!

Feb 23rd, 2005, 06:06 PM
JELENA is pretty solid on every stroke. She is an amazing athlete and she will be the player to watch this year. Keep a close eye on her when she comes back in Dubai. She can do a lot of damage, that's for sure!
Come on Jelenaaa, you are the best :hearts:  :worship:

Feb 23rd, 2005, 06:15 PM
 SHE IS HOT GUYS... :hearts:

Feb 23rd, 2005, 10:38 PM
Yea Jelena. I saw her match with Sharapova in Flushing Meadows. She was injured though.

Her serve was decent, but her second was a little pathetic. But I beleive that's cause she was injured. I just hope she can improve it. But I love her backhand.

I think spending some time in Belgrade will help her tremendously. Dubai is the tournament!

And yes, she is a beauty. :) I can't wait untill I see her this year.

Go Jelena!

Feb 23rd, 2005, 10:48 PM
Jelena's prefered surface is hardcourt, but she's done very little on that stuff last year... she actually had a great indoor season and sort of decent grass season (up to last year she had never won a match on grass and then she beat some pretty good players like Petrova and Dulko).
Her serve can be a big weakness. It can be really good but also it can break down completely. Also she lacks a bit of power, although she has improved in that department quite a bit over the last two years.
However, her biggest liability IMO is her head. She can totally mess up a match which she should win, she was known for choking a lot. Last year we saw major improvement, she won many tight matches. Hopefully it will continue like that.
And most important thing - the injuries. Last year she had sooooo many of them.

Feb 24th, 2005, 08:58 PM
Jelena is a very talented girl, she plays with so much touch. Joana said earlier that Jelena used to choke sometimes last year. I don't know any player that doesn't choke sometimes. So I think those comments make no sense. Jelena is going to be a top 10 player soon. By the way I like her eyes, they are so pretty and different!!!
I love Jelenaaa  :hearts:
:worship: :hearts: :bounce:

Feb 24th, 2005, 11:24 PM
Here is a article from Serbia from another poster named blablabla posted.

Jelena Jankovic: Motivation For Success
As long as I'm fit everything will be fine... a saying JJ repeats often.
However good fortune didn't smile on our number one player at the beginning of the new season. A virus has completely drained Jelena for the first tournaments of 2005 and because of exhaustion Jelena had to withdraw from Antwerpen and Doha.
- When I got back to Belgrade people couldn't believe how much weight I lost and how badly I was playing. I didn't even have the strength to hit the ball properly - explains Jelena
The young player was left with no option other than to come home, rest and prepare for the rest of the season.
- I've recovered from the virus but have come down with another cold since but compared to what I've been through recently this minor cough is nothing more than a hindrance - says a smiling Jelena
The current 27 in the world doesn't hide her disappoitment at the series of bad results especially after perfect preperations.
- Luckily I didn't have many points to defend so I've retained my ranking but I'm still disappointed that i became ill and that I didn't start the season like I expected and won more WTA points... To reach 23rd I need only another 50 points. Recently Jelena got a boost to her confidence from the WTA. Together with Tatjana Golovin and Nikola Vaidisova our player was nominated for 2004's rookie of the year
- I don't know if I'll win it but I'm grateful for the recognition. The buzz is that Golovin and myself are favorites.
Despite the poor start to the season Jelena hasn't changed this year's goals of climbing further in the rankings and bringing success to the "Blues".
-Next Friday I'm off to Dubai where I won my first big tournament. I hope that this city will bring a turnaroand in my career for the second time. I'd also like Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Dokic and I to make an accord with regard to Fed Cup matches and I hope we can reach the World Group. I don't know if we will achieve that I still haven't spoken with the new selector Tatjana Jacmenica but I've been in the Serbian team since I was a junior and everyone knows how much playing for the "Blues" means to me.
My "club" is Serbia-Montenegro !
Jelena's eventual transfer from Red star to Partizan kicked up a lot of dust in the local media. After more than a month of silence, the rival supporters are interested in the final outcome
- I'd rather not discuss this at this time because nothing is definite yet. My "club" before everything else is Serbia-Montenegro - explains Jelena who is currently training with Red Star experts in Belgrade.

Feb 26th, 2005, 12:50 PM
So,she's playing in Dubai next week, right?

Ajmo Jeco!!!! Best of luck,sweetie!!!

Good luck Jela.  Suarez lost to Bartoli 1/6 1/6 last week, i think she doesn't find her best shape yet because she was injuried a long time :) Jela should win it!! Ajdeeeeee!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Jelena beat Suarez today 6-3 6-1. Se takes on Silvia Farina Elia who beat Venus. She could make it to the quarters in which will most likely face Svetlan Kuznetsova. I think she will win when she plays Silvia.

Yea! Poor Suarez though, I beleive she's been injured though. Well, I hope we can beat Farina Elia... I bet she will have much confidence coming out of that win from Venus. Come on Jelena, beat Silvia!

She got a sucky draw.

Mar 1st, 2005, 03:28 PM
Go Jeca!!!! I hope she takes this opportunity to beat Farina and go far in the draw!!!!! I want to see her on tv as well...

Mar 1st, 2005, 03:42 PM
Well Jelena's draw sorta opened up. Mirza just defeated Kuznetsova. If Jelena beats Silvia she will take on Mirza which can be tough.

Mirza defeated Kuznetsova?!!! Seriously?!

But anyway, a relly good win by Jeca, and hopefully this will get her back on track again :)

Mar 1st, 2005, 04:05 PM
Yes Mirza beat Kuznetsova. Jelena seems to be having trouble serving. Only won two points on it. Its 5-0 now.

Mar 1st, 2005, 06:05 PM
She won 4-6 7-5 6-1. She fought in that match which is really good for her. She plays Sania Mirza who is very confident. Hope she wins.

Mar 1st, 2005, 06:15 PM
I almost gave up on this match. She nearly killed me with pathetic play in the first set. But somehow she managed to dig deep and fight and fight and fight and force the 3rd set. It was a no contest then. Well done, girl! :yeah:
Mirza will be tough, just because she has UNBELIVEABLE support in Dubai. I mean, if you didn't see it you wouldn't believe what that crowd is doing. Just

Hey joana, would you mind telling me who is in your avatar?

It's Gro Hammerseng, a Norwegian handball player. She's one of the best players in the world (and some would say the best looking one too ;) ).

Just to let you guys know, Jelena is currently at her carrer high ranking of 25. Go Jelena break into top 20.

Mar 1st, 2005, 11:44 PM
Good luck Jelena in your next round! I like Sania too, but I have been waiting patiently for Jelena to have a big result in 05. It sounds like Sania plays consistent baseline tennis, somewhat like Jelena. I think this one will be tough, but Jelena can do it!

Mar 1st, 2005, 11:45 PM
Egads, we beat Farina Elia! Venus AND Svetlana losing. Oh let's not waste this chance Jelena. I think we can be Mirza, even though she is a good player. I saw her match against Serena and her forehands were powerful. Hope it's a good match.

But seriously, don't waste this Jelena.

Mar 2nd, 2005, 09:23 AM
Well done Jelena! Great come back, beautiful girl!
Come on, you can go all the way... :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Guys, we forgot the most important thing: two days ago Jelena turned 20. And she got the best present: a win over Suarez!

Happy birthday, Jeca!

Mar 2nd, 2005, 02:43 PM
Oh really? I wasn't aware it was her birthday.Happy birthday to Jeca!!!

Well I did not watch the entire match against Farina, but it seems she fought hard even if her game was not on.I agree with you that Sania Mirza will be a complicated opponent. She's on a roll now.But luckily Jeca will lift her level, play some consistent tennis and advance to the ssemis. When is the match being played?

I found this nice photo of Jeca on WTA SITE:

DUBAI, U.A.E.: While waiting for her match to go on court Tuesday evening, Jelena Jankovic decided to pass the time by taking a camel ride. Her match (which she won) was scheduled to be played during the player party when the camels were available and Jankovic didn't want to miss out on the opportunity.

She seems to have so much fun  ;)
