View Full Version : Outside of your favorite who would you like to see take home the Roland Garros trophy

My top 3 picks outside of my favorite's(Venus and Serena) that I would like to see win RG are as follows:

In no particular order and why:

1.Henin-Well since she first started playing she has always wanted to win this slam. I mean come on, how can you not one day be glad to see her win RG? The story of her being a little girl and telling her mom, that she would one day win on the red clay is endearing. I want her to win one for her mother. She has the game for it.. could this be her year?

2.Rubin-She is a great person who has put in the hard work. She has the court savy to win here. If anyone deserves it it is Chanda! Imho this is the slam that Chanda can very well take on home. It would be so sweet to see her holding up the trophy, smiling away. Without a doubt a kodak moment and a VCR tape for the future.

3.Amelie-She is French, she is a clay courter. She really wants to win here. She has the court savy to win RG and the crowd would be thrilled. I mean who wouldn't want Momo to win her first slam at home. In front of the crowds. It's been awhile since a French women has won it at home. (I'm not countin Mary Pierce). Momo deserves to win a slam in France, she is a hard worker, has overcome her mental mindset and nerves. Could this be her year?

In short I think it would be nice for Chanda to have a slam under her belt, she's not getting any younger, Justine's win woud be tearful, because of her mother and the story that surrounds it. Amelie would finally win one for France.

My favourtie is Justine...

Who I would want to see win it besides her....

NO ONE! no j/k

Uhm...
#1 would be Monica, cause it would be great to win one more slam in her career and after this year I think she will have 0% chance of ever winning a slam again

I can't really think of nayone else I'd pick for this...maybe conchita martinez?

Kim Clijsters because she is the slamless person who was the closest at winning one, it would be tragic if she never did.

Apr 18th, 2003, 07:01 AM
Amelie Mauresmo, Jelena Dokic, Iva Majoli.

Besides Venus or Serena (In that order :-)

My pics would be

in no particular order

Justine - She works so damn hard and she doesn't get enough respect :-) Nice to see the little guy/gal win one.

Kimmie- She almost one it before and ... I just like her.

Jennifer- Was on my shitlist for quite sometime, but, miracles happen and I would like to see her continue to be at the top of her game.

Apr 18th, 2003, 09:38 AM
My favorite Justine aside, I'd love to see Martina Hingis return to the tour and win the only slam she hasn't won yet!
I would also be happy if Seles won it, or Mary Pierce, or Anna Kournikova to finally get everyone off her back!

King Lindsay
Apr 18th, 2003, 09:43 AM
Uhhh, if Lindsay or Amelie can't.....

I guess Justine.

Monica, I suppose. would be sentimental.

Irina Spirlea ..... (shut up! It's still more likely than Anna)

Apr 18th, 2003, 12:04 PM
if venus doesn't win, i would love to see seles prevail. she's not getting any younger and it would be wonderful to see her retire with her grand slam total in the double digits.

if seles doesn't win, clijsters would be my next choice. she lost that heartbreaker to capriati in 2001 and rebounded nicely (whereas some players would go into a slump).

Apr 18th, 2003, 12:12 PM
Outside of my faves, would be Justine Henin, Amelie Mauresmo and Serena.

MONICA :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: Oh how happy I would be!!!

AMELIE!!!! :hearts:

LINDSAY! :hearts:

CONCHITA! :hearts:

CHANDA! :hearts:

ELENI DANIILIDOU! :hearts:

VENUS! :hearts:

The players would be the same but the order a little different if we were discussing Wimbledon. :) :) :)

If Martina couldn't win(which she wont:() then...

Henin-I'd love to see her win on clay, amazing game for it.

Venus-Yes, I've come to like Venus a LOT more as of late. I would love to see her beat Serena in the RG final or something, sweet sweet justice.

Coetzer-Mandy works so hard every match and has had an amazing career, I would love to see it pay off for her.

Rubin-Chanda's one of top top 4 faves, and I'd love to see her win here or anywhere else. I love her game and attitude, she really deserves a slam.

Others-

Jen
Lindsay
Patty
Monica

The other way around for me.

Juju can win RG, provided that Kim takes Wimbledon :)

Probably Clijsters. If Jen does not win RG, I really do not care who does

Apr 18th, 2003, 02:45 PM

It would be super cool if Arantxa would come back, win it and then retire again. How great would that be?

Since she won't though I'd say:

1. Seles
2. Pierce
3. A wild card or qualifier from nowhere

Apr 18th, 2003, 03:14 PM
My fave is Serena, if she cant win then Venus, then Chanda, Mary or Amanda Coetzer. It would be great if Kim won too.

Apr 18th, 2003, 03:50 PM
asides from venus and serena...

Henin-Hardenne: She really deserves a slam because shes very underrated and good on clay.

Seles: A great ending for a great career.

Vera Zvonareva or Eleni Daniilidou: Wow that would be surprising!

Apr 18th, 2003, 04:20 PM
Hmmmmm...outside of Serena (1st) then Venus (2nd) I would want the following to win:

Lindsay Davenport -- Winning the French would give her a career Grand Slam.

Justine Henin-Hardenne -- She's one of my favorite players and the story of her winning at the French would be incredible.

Monica Seles -- So that she can win a Slam in the twilight of her great career.

Outside my favs....hmm...Proabably I'd love to see Iva or Mary hold it up once again. Besides them Chanda or Kim.

Apr 18th, 2003, 04:49 PM
I would love to see Amelie win Roland Garros, for all the obvious reasons.
Plus I love to see all the emotion of players when they play in their own country.

Becool
Apr 18th, 2003, 05:00 PM
Henin : Because she deserves it.. She has the perfect game for clay and it would be so touching if she dedicates this for her mom :)

Monica : It would be cool to see her winning again here

thats all :| execpt for them and Serena, I don't want anyone winning RG title

kiwifan
Apr 18th, 2003, 05:21 PM
Monica, Anna K. or any cute young American who hasn't won a slam yet.

Task
Apr 18th, 2003, 05:35 PM
Someone outside the top 20. that would be cool.

I will settle for anybody whose last name is not williams or capriati. We need some variety.

Julian
Apr 18th, 2003, 05:41 PM
Although it hurtens me to say....I want Conchita Martinez to win..I am still mad when Conchita beat Arantxa in their 2000 SF encounter and said..ok if she beat Arantxa then she better win the title lol But she was MEANT to win the title IMO and considering she's always been in the shadow of Arantxa a French Open title would give her some security along with that Wimbledon title Arantxa never had...

Cariaoke
Apr 18th, 2003, 05:43 PM
outside of Venus and Serena...

MONICA- definitely my #1 favorite for getting a career slam. :hearts:
KIMMY- so close to getting it against Jen. I think she'll get it in a few years, if not sooner.
JUSTY- amazing if she does it... not a dry eye in the house.
CHANDA- I'd like to see her win a slam and why not here?
Dinara, Alicia, Eleni, etc.- if one of the talented juniors took it, it would be GREAT!

aisha
Apr 18th, 2003, 07:15 PM
Wouldn't mind if Serena repeated but...
I am really hoping Venus ( ) this year, if not then...

Monica - Lucky #10
Lindsay - Career Slam
Kim - Great person, would love to see her face if she wins trophy.
Chanda - Deserves reward for hard work.
Alexandra - I can dream. She would vault herself from chronic underachiever to GS champion.

Cybelle Darkholme
Apr 18th, 2003, 07:17 PM
Well If Venus can't win and Serena can't win Then I want RUBIN TO WIN!!!! She has been on tour for so long and she would be just so happy to win one as her career winds down. Everyone else in the top has either won majors or have time to do so.

GO RUBIN if venus and serena lose WIN THAT SLAM BABY GIRL!

joao
Apr 18th, 2003, 07:33 PM
If Venus can't
Then Serena
Then Amelie Mauresmo
Then Chanda Rubin
Then Iva Majoli (but that's a long shot!)...

Apr 18th, 2003, 08:36 PM
If Venus or Serena can't win then I will go for:

Monica-I think it would be so great if she made a comeback. She is so sweet.

Chanda-This would really put the icing on her career. If she did win one she should retire out on top. JMO.

AI-this would be a total suprise, and would make Japan happy.

Kim-she was so close during her match with Capriati in the 2001 finals. It would be great to see her win this time.

Elisse
Apr 18th, 2003, 08:41 PM
Well, my favorite players are Amélie & Eleni, so if I can't choose either of them (even though I would love Momo to win at Roland Garros :hearts: ) but if I have to say someone else......

1. Conchita Martinez :worship:
2. Justine Henin-Hardenne
3. Kim Clijsters

CapFan#1
Apr 18th, 2003, 08:41 PM
Well. if it can't be Cappy, then I would pick Mandy Coetzer. She's had an amazing career and works so damn hard - she deserves a slam. Plus she is super hot!!!

Brian Stewart
Apr 18th, 2003, 09:01 PM
If not my fave, then Momo would be my next choice. After them, there are a bunch of different options. Perhaps Amanda, to show that hard work pays off. Or Dally, Ai, Tammy, or Paola, to give a boost to tennis in their region.

Kim's my favourite, so I pick Justine. Yeah, I know, I'm Belgian.

Amanda
Apr 19th, 2003, 02:34 PM
It would be fantastic for any WC to win, or someone that is considered a "no name" player.

VSFan1 aka Joshua L.
Apr 19th, 2003, 02:45 PM
1-Monica Seles - without a doubt. I would literally cry my heart out if she won.

2-Amanda Coetzer-could you imagine her winning at age 31(?) for the first time? It would be the perfect ending for her.

3-Martina Hingis-I know I know....but it would just be so cool for her.

4-Amelie Mauresmo-need I say more?

5-Justine or Kim
