I'll say! Venus will do Chris Tucker's house. I read an article over a week ago where Venus designed a room of this famous house - hotel - or whatever it was. Several designers participated and Venus was one of them. She has been busy indeed. This child is not playing around w/her business is she? She means bizniz.

And as far as Venus's tennis goes - she'll plug into it full force for the next 4 months - and then she'll take another break. She'll get both jobs done IMO.

And just what can one say about Serena?

"YOU 2 GET THE JOB DONE - VENUS & SERENA"

The Reporters' Report Card

NEW YORK - Serena Williams is on top of the tennis world, but the 21-year-old champion has a surprising view on how she would like her resume to read.

``I'm an actress, I'm a model and an athlete. I put athlete third on my list,'' says Williams. the world No. 1 women's tennis player and current holder of all four Grand Slam titles.

``I prefer actress, model, athlete.''

Williams is keeping an ultra-fast pace off the courts as well as on them these days, with acting projects, modeling shoots and fashion design business competing for room on her calendar.

Taking a brief break after beating former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez last week at the Family Circle Cup tournament in Charleston, S.C., Williams said in a telephone interview she was excited about an upcoming acting role.

Williams, who has appeared on the ABC television situation comedy series ``My Wife and Kids,'' said she was waiting for a movie script being written with a part specifically for her, but did not have a timetable for the project yet.

``I haven't talked with my Hollywood agent in a couple of days,'' she explained, chuckling at the sound of her life in the fast lane.

Williams has also charged into the pages of high fashion.

SWIMSUIT LAYOUTS

The full-bodied tennis champion had a special layout among all the leggy supermodels in the recent Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and is featured in the current issue of Vogue magazine, also modeling a swimsuit.

``I got a lot of positive feedback from the Sports Illustrated shoot. Actually it was all positive. People were astonished and amazed,'' she said. ``And modeling for Vogue was fun. Every week that I'm not on the court, I'm doing a photo shoot or modeling for a magazine cover. It's wild.''

Williams, like her sister Venus -- the world's No. 2 ranked women's tennis player -- is also serious about pursuing an interest in design.

While Venus is busy running a home interior design company, Serena is getting things in order for her own fashion design business.

``I've gotten more serious about designing in the past few weeks,'' said Serena. ``I'm in the process of securing a name, my own brand name, and I'm writing my business plan. I'm looking at designers that I can hire. I'm looking at shops I can sell to and I'm thinking about opening my own boutiques.''

Just contemplating all this seems exhausting, but Serena was not through.

``Oh yeah, I also do PR for Venus's home design company. I go out and get jobs for her,'' she said. ``I was talking to (comedian-turned-actor) Chris Tucker. He promised he'd let Venus do his house.''

RAISING MONEY FOR EDUCATION

Despite all the activity, Serena is setting aside time for a charity project to raise money to benefit black colleges.

Serena and Venus are both donating tennis outfits they will wear at Grand Slam events this season for auction, along with signed tennis equipment and tickets to the U.S. Open to benefit the Tom Joyner Foundation which offers scholarships to students at black colleges.

Serena is also offering a private tennis lesson for the highest bid received during the online auction that ends on April 25 at Web site http://www.doublemint.com. Bidding has already pushed the price to $4,500.

``We like to do a lot of things through the community and for education,'' Serena said about their involvement in the charity auction.

The four historically black colleges that will benefit from funds raised are the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Vorhees College in South Carolina, Elizabeth City State University in New Jersey and Tougaloo College in Mississippi.

Serena is donating an outfit she designed and will wear during this summer's Wimbledon championships, while Venus is putting up an outfit from this spring's French Open.

``I'm focusing solely on fashion right now,'' said Serena, who created a fashion stir last summer at the U.S. Open when she wore a skin tight ``catsuit'' outfit.

``That's what's exciting about the bidding on the tennis outfit, because I designed it.''

Serena would not give away any details about the outfit she is putting up for auction.

``It's not going to be a catsuit,'' she said. ``I know everybody will be disappointed. And it won't be what I wear in the finals. I keep that for my memorabilia.''

They both have what's called a "full life".

They also know about color....... the color of "success". :worship:

In my opinion they are true role models of how young, focused and determined people can succeed early in their lifes.

Good for them, you know. Good for them :bounce:

Hi Rae and Cari! :wavey:

Rena is doing it all like J-lo!!! LOL. She is too funny with the Jlo thing. I'm just happy that she is really enjoying herself. Both her and Venus are fine examples, and I hope they both are successful with everything they do.

Perhaps I'm arguing semantics here. This interview strikes me as showing confidence, not arrogance.

I hope that Serena and Venus continue to court success away from tennis. Way to be examples of contingency plans!!!

TS - in no way will I try to slam you for your comment and opinion - because we all have the right to them - but why should Serena shut up!?

It appears this article came out of New York - so evidently - she is there. Now to wish her to shut up about what she is engaged in - is to wish that she was not engaged in these other things that are not tennis related.

The thing is - she is into other things besides tennis - so this is a way for her to promote herself outside of tennis. It's apparent to me that someone asked her for her remarks - so in essence - she was being interviewed. So it would seem her comments were not supposed to center around tennis - but were to made as a way for her to explain and expound on what she is doing outside of tennis. And about where her head - hopes and desires are as it relates to her other endeavors.

Some can think she is arrogant all day long and it will not change who she is. And let's not forget that one of the main things about her is that - she is is RICH! Therefore - she has to try to get involved in something that will make her happy in the fufu - for surely we all know - money will not buy happiness - once she hangs up her rackets. We know what Venus will be doing - now don't we?

don't be sorry TS... you like your girls mysterious but I like Ree's openess. I dunno I see you as more human if you actually put yourself out there. But Vee's mystique makes her unique. I can appreciate both of their personalities but Venus kinda put it out there on Oprah's after the show and on the show. I was surprised. She told it like it was. :D

I love how Rena opens up to her fans and the public, she has alot of personality and that's something some folks cannot deal with. LOL. IMO, she is just stating her goals and sharing them with everyone. I suggest for anyone who doesn't like it to just go and read something else. I love Rena's colorful interviews, because they are over the top and funny!!

How come they just don't donate their own money to the charity? I don't understand that!!?? They are both loaded now.....

Seems to me, Serena is still quite an attention seeker who just wanna see how popular she is with her outfits and private tennis lesson put up for auction.......

GogoGirl
Apr 18th, 2003, 02:44 PM
And I still say that if Serena is sitting down at an interview and is asked about herself - her goals - her dreams - and her engagements - then she is suppose to talk about those things. Whom else should she expound on? In talking about herself - the I - the me - the my - will come up. Now is it just me that does not believe that Serena was just talking to herself and the writer of this article just happened to be around - and decided to write an article w/several of her comments w/i? Or maybe she wrote the article herself.

And most of us know - that the Sisters give more money to charities every year than most of us make in a year. And it would seem to me that the Sisters were asked to participate in the charity mentioned in the article - just like they were asked to participate in the one below. I'm sure they are asked all the time to participate in something. Some would complain if it was being reported that they thought they were too good to particpate in such things.

Lastly - no one has to like or appreciate them. I think that has already been established. But they still have a right to live the way they choose to. Last time I checked - they were not hurting anyone.

- Winning Time at the Tennis Court with Serena Williams and Venus Williams

The survey revealed that more than half of adults say they
would like to spend time on the court with tennis stars --
with Serena Williams and Venus Williams rated number one and
number two, respectively. Further, the survey revealed that
men were more interested than women to meet the tennis
superstars.

wow it's amazing how one group who read the article see an amazing talent who was asked about her goals, her future and her life while another group sees a conceited, dominant player seeking attention.

it all comes down to interpretation but it's obvious that the Williamses are doing more for their communities than most of you hiding behind a computer. their lives are full and that's an example that everyone should appreciate whether you like them or not. but some haters never learn by example.
