How about to Lina Kras, "You seem very innocent are you like that in your private life," or to Justine Henin "Did you like her Lilac dress"?

Or to Marat Safin: "What do you think the difference is between you and Anna Kournikova?"

to Steffi and Serena: "hey, why are you both such arrogant bitches?"

Elena Bovina's 1st interview... after she lost in the Quarters of Indian Wells '01. They went on and on and ON about how she was the "Cinderella" of that tournament, and literally asked her 10 questions about fairy tales and Cinderella.

Q. Because a couple of us clearly think you've been the Cinderella of this tournament. You're the most pleasant thing we've had develop here.

ELENA BOVINA: That's nice.

Lena, that's where you slap them... :)

Just recently, some nutcase who was supposedly conducting research for a new book on Monica asked Andre about Steffi's thoughts on Monica's career and stabbing. When Andre refused to comment, this reporter actually asked Andre to ask Steffi for him and to get back with him with her answer.

Needless to say, Andre said no.

This potential-pulitzer-prize-winner took reporting to a new low: investigative research through the "please ask your wife for me" method. I did better research than that when I was in high school!!!!!!

Incredible.

This was probably not the most stupid question still you can see how a witty answer can reveal the dumbness of it:

When Marat Safin was asked what he would take to a desert island he said: "A woman, not a tennis racket". :)

To Justine Henin-Hardenne: "Why do you wear a watch?"Sorry, but that was an absolutely brilliant question, Pulitzer Prize material. And I kid you not.

I remember once a reporter at Wimbledon asked Steffi what her dog's name was. When the reporting started writing down the dog's name, Steffi asked in total surprise" Are you gonna write that down?" It was quite good.

I've always wanted tennis players to turn the tables on the reporters. For example, Steffi might have asked that reporter, "What's your dog's name?" Then reporters would have to face questions like, "Why do you wear a watch?" "Did you like her outfit today?" "Where did you go shopping yesterday?"

I think it would be quite amusing.

Monica Seles was asked a few times if she would show her scar to the reporters. And in one press conference she was asked if it hurt [being stabbed]?

Apr 16th, 2003, 06:03 PM
oh yeah they asked her at the pc 4 or 5 days after.

I guess journalists are not allowed to have feelings.

I am definitely not made for it!

I always thought Martina Hingis was pretty clever in giving answers too! :D

Wasn't there a specific reason behind asking if Justine was wearing a watch. A guy wrote a really snarky article on how coddled professional tennis players are....

One notoriously insensitive reporter asked Jen at Acura '01 if she had "put on some weight".....to which she replied, "No, have you??" and promptly walked out of the PC while the guy got chewed out by the WTA people.

Best response to a stupid question came from Agassi at Wimbledon a while back

"Andre, are you aware that your shorts are see through?"

"Obviously you are." :D

I remember such a story too from the early ninties too. I think in Rome 93 (might have been 92 too), she started crying then!

I remember reading how back in the 93 Italian Open when Jen lost to Coetzer, somebody asked "Do you think you lost because you're too fat and out of shape?" She had to be taken out in tears. That very day she was dropped from her Oil of Olay contract because she had bad acne at the time. Somebody at OOO said her promotion "hadn't worked out like we expected."

After her first round match at Wimbledon, 1994, Katrina Adams was asked a series of questions that began on the order of "Can you tell us about your knickers?"

"C A L A B A R.
People wonder who we are."

There is a long list of questions where Venus just raised an eyebrow and moved on to the next reporter. Its an integral part of her 'arrogance mystique'.

Stoopid questions? Asking all players what seperates them from the Williams. Does anyone even listen for an answer?

Steffi was asked at Wimbledon one year after winning the singles:

Q. Is there anything that give you more of a thrill than winning Wimbledon?
A. Oh, What did you have in mind? :D :wavey: :worship: :p :lick:

serena and somebody in a press conference got into a dissagreement about the orgins of the word "ghetto". She finally answered:

"You have your information and I have mine."

Another classic Serena quote when asked why she didnt shake hands with a chair umpire after a match earlier in her career after she thought she got some bad line calls she said:

"I was thinking about soemthing else."

ermmmmm off the top of my head Martina was asked when she beat Monica 0 and 0 if she could feel any compasion for Monica  for gods sake she is a pro sportswoman

i think the answer "what is compassion?" is EXACTLY what the Q deserved :D

Wow, these are great.

My pet hate is every time some idiot asks a player after a big loss "So did the match go the way you planned?" or some such thing. "Are you happy with that result" to a winner is almost as stupid but at least it's not cruel.

At the Aussie Open in I think 2001, Anna Kournikova was asked this absolutely ridiculous question:

"Anna, has your stay in Australia been less enjoyable this year because Mark Philippoussis is not in town?"

Anna replied that she was enjoying her stay in Australia just fine.

one of my favourite lindsay quotes was when she just won the US Open and the reporter told her that martina hingis (they were playing against each other in doubles final the day after) told lindsay to drink a lot a saki when she is celebrating and lindsay said

"i wont be a 100% tomorrow, thats for sure"

another is about when she was wearing a sleveless nike t-shirt and the reporter asked is she copying tommy haas..lindsay said

"i couldnt give a crap what tommy haas wears"

GO LINDSAY!!

I think it was US Open last year

But Kim was asked if she thought Lleyton was a nice guy?

I thought that question was stupid what did they expect her to say, no I don't and that is why he is my boyfriend  Just for the record Kim said she knew he was a nice guy :)

After Lleyton beat Ferrero in a 5 set thriller in the finals of the masters cup in Shanghai last year, he was asked....

QUESTION: Congratulations, Lleyton. Justine Henin got married and she changed her name to the husband's family name. If you marry Kim Clijsters, do you want her to change to Kim Hewitt as well?
