the Monte Carlo event is a master event, right ?

From what I've heard all the master tournaments are televised.
I heard Fox are showing the WTA German OPen and Rome, probably starting from semifinals.

i don't think you guys understand the concept of television programming. they can't choose to show the events they feel like showing whenever they want. different people have the rights to different events. what i don't understand is why espn isn't showing any of the tournament in australia when they are in america. it is not foxtel, it is the individual channel.

umm switz - my point is: if they can get the rights to show a mens tourney for 8 hours a day for the whole tourney, why can't they do the same for a women's tourney? I'm sure the people running the tourney would be more than happy to sell the rights for 8 hours a day broadcast! ;)

oh yeah, and another thing that pisses me off with Fox SPorts s that they have the rights to tourneys, they only show the semi's and finals, and then to make it worse, they only show it like two weeks after the tourney! Like yeah, I wanna watch a match I already know the score of at 2am in the morning NOT!!!

ummm, inkyfan, they don't have the rights to it, espn does and espn does all the scheduling for their station, not fox sports! you miss the point. they have bought the rights to the master's tournaments and therefore they are naturally going to show as much as they can because they have already paid. buying the rights to 8 hours of one women's tournament is stupid because in reality only you and a few other people on this board are likely to be interested in watching it. in case you haven't noticed, outside the grand slams women's tennis is not exactly the most popular spectator sport in australia. i would love them to show more women's tennis, but i can understand the reasons why they don't.

switz you have a point there, but mens tennis (aside from when Lleyton, Scud et al are playing) doesn't exactly set the ratings alight either. I think what inkyfan means is, why get it for the men and not the women...as I don't think the audience for mens tennis is *that* much greater. Sure it's bigger in this country due to our player being #1, but not by that much...

for the simple fact that the tv networks see tennis as tennis. they probably assume most tennis fans are satisfied watching any tennis be it atp or wta.we here on wtaworld who stick exclusively to the women's game arent probably representative

i know what she is saying, and i not what she means, but the fact is that there is not a master's series for women like their is for men so they can't buy a package of women's tennis to have the right to show. fox sports didn't show the women's action when in indian wells and miami for exactly this reason: they DON'T have the rights to it, and they did for mens because it is part of the master's series, which they DO have the rights to. don't you think if they could choose between covering a dokic vs clijsters q/final in miami and some american ace-fest they would show the women? you know in grand-slams overseas where they are using somebody else's coverage like the french tennis federation so they can only show matches on certain courts? in the same with those american tournaments fox sports can't go from using the master's series coverage with its designated commentators and cameras to the women's tournament which is covered by espn which has its own commentators and cameras. logistically it just can't work.

complaining could work for the future i guess, but i wouldn't count on it

Hello?! In Men's Tour, it called Tennis Masters Series but in Women's Tour called Tier I!! So, we should have coverage of all Tier I events and some Tier II events as well!!

The masters coverage is great, like 6pm onwards throughout the night. I wish they would show a WTA event to that extent. :)

Hello?! obviously i know that the tier I tournaments are the women's equivalent of the master's series, but what i was saying is that they are not an organised entity. there is no website for The Women's Tier I Series and really no promotion for any of these tournaments. the individual tier I tournaments advertise for themselves and have a lot of discretion of who has tv rights. in many ways i think all of you should be directing your anger at the wta because they do such a shit job of selling their product unless anna is there.
