WHO DO YOU PREFER??

ive been a Clijsters lover for coming upto 3 years now and while there was a period of a couple of weeks when the hype over her beating Serena was getting to me, ive been infatuated with her and her game. i just love the running, those painful looking splits, and the cute Lleyton like fist pump she does. also shes younger (as with Serena/Venus, i love the younger player ;)). GO KIM :) :bounce: :hearts:  :worship:

so who is YOUR favourite Belgian and why???

(in the top 5....and a women of course ;)):)

Clijsters has been one of my favorites for a while now because of her amazing splits, huge ground strokes, and tendancy to hit a drop-shot out of nowhere. That beind said, Henin is a player who is just amazing to watch when she is playing well, so I like them both.

Kim's my favourite, coz she's going out with Lleyton and has been sooo good for his attitude. She's just a sweetie! :D And she's the closest thing we have to a really good Aussie woman player.(No offense Pratt, and Molik, you'll get there in a couple of years ;) )

I really really like Justine, though. She's got such a beautiful game. It's really lovely to watch.

Sorry to break the trend, but I always liked Justine more, and still do.:)

Justine all the way!

Why?

She plays beautiful tennis. Her groundstrokes, her volleys, her serve, when it's all working it's working because of amazing technique.

She plays attacking tennis. She doesn't tend to wait for her opponent to make mistakes but actively takes her game to her opponent. She mixes it up, attacks the net and makes a match _exciting_.

She's unconcerned with her appearance. She's cute but she clearly doesn't care about what people think of her looks. I'm like that too, and I like it in others.

She's reserved. She seems to be someone of intense emotions but she's not about to let anyone and everyone see them. Once again, I'm like that too and I find it attractive in others.

Overall - she plays lovely tennis and I find her intriguing and appealing as a personality.

Why not Kim?

I don't like her game as much. She's too erratic for me. In particular, I find the wild shots, splits, etc unappealing.

I don't like her personality as much. She's clearly a nice girl but she's not the kind of person that I personally find attractive or intriguing, precisely because she's so open and extrovert. That's not a criticism - she's just not my type of person.

Justine

Her game is just a joy to watch. Her game has more variety. Her game is more precise, more elegant, and more beautiful. Justine, as well as Kim, is overflowing with talent. Her shot selection is brilliant and her finesse is among the best. I just really like watching Justine play because she isn't all about power. She's more about perfecting the little things and making her game different from the rest. Her backhand is the best in the game. She gets so much power from it and almost always perfect placement. I just think her game is more exciting because it's not always band-bang-bang!!!!

The only thing I don't like is her mental breakdowns against Kim and Venus. I don't quite understand why she doesn't think she can beat them. Maybe her win over Serena will help her more with this.

maybe its a case of she CANT beat them? ever thort when Venus came back it was cos she was taking control? or Kim has her number?

Kim!!

Why? I simply love her!

Glenn
Apr 15th, 2003, 09:49 AM
Of course Justine...
I used to like both girls, now my love for Kim is starting to fade (that will never happen with my love for Justine) because of different reasons;

She's a very sweet girl, but just like saki I think she's too sweet, too open, you know what I mean?
Justine still has that little something extra over her, (for me) and she can be a real bitch sometimes, hehe. For example: "I was injured too and I didn't do a song or a dance about it like Lindsay!"

*AHEM* lol

Another reason is that Kim plays REALLY REALLY passive from time to time. Sure, she can overpower or outplay lower ranked opponents, but when she faces Serena or Venus she seems to lose all that aggression, whereas in Justine's case, she goes for her shots, mixes it up, makes the other work for her points, that's just the kind of mentality I like in a player! :)

There are more reasons, but I'd just be a bore... lol.

The very time I saw both Kim and Justine, I began to admire Justine's
game. She may not have the winning records against Venus, Kim and
Serena but the way she plays the game makes everybody want to watch
her play.
She plays really good tennis. She is a replica of Martina hingis in term of
playing clean tennis. No power but the ways and tactics are there to
cope with the power players. She is my heart and may be my favourite
when Venus leaves the tennis world.
Kim, for me I don't like the way she plays tennis. She never beat player
above her convincingly as did Justine sometimes. And in the future I
think Justine will be one give the williamses some problems.

JUSTINE is definitely my favourite Belgian Waffle. :)
I started of supporting both, but gradually ended up rooting mainly for her. The underdog thing, I guess, and her game style, of course.
Justine's personality is also more appealing to me. She has so many different sides to her: enigmatic, shy, sometimes insecure, sometimes confident, devoted to her sport, ambitious ...
On a personal level, I know what it feels like to lose a parent at an early age and I admire the way Justine handled her tragedies.

i like them and respect them both but clijsters gets the edge in my book because she's more consistent. henin-hardenne has a gorgeous backhand but she's more prone to vulnerability (and inconsistent play)than clijsters.

I like Kim very very much!
Why?
1. Because she had a great game: she takes risks and I like that. For example when she suddenly hits a dropshot. When she misses it and because of that comes in trouble, I don't mind. That's just what I like about her...risky Kim.
2. She's just a lovely person. Always nice to her fans, gives autographs all around the court in Belgium, answers letters, thanks them when they're in the public, thanks everybody even the ballkids and organisators when she wins a tournament.
3. She respects every other player. And gives them all the credit they deserve. She wouldn't search for excuses.
4. She doesn't care about rankings, and even if you won't believe that, I know it's true (I'm a fan off course)
And I can add several things...

As a Belgian girl, I really like Justine as well. Like when she yesterday won against Serena I was happy as a child. But I like Kim better ;-)

The mirror-like progression of both girls on the tour is spooky. They both surfaced in 99. That year, they played 2 GS tournaments, and each of them made some kind of statement (Justine vs Lindsay at the French, and Kim at Wimbledon, where she reached the 4th round). That year, they won their first tournament ( Antwerp for Justine, which was also her very first pro-tournament, and Luxemburg for Kim)
They reached their first GS semi-final together, their first GS final 1 month apart, entered the Top 10 together, then the Top 5.
This year, they have BOTH played 6 tournaments, won 2 ( a tier I & a tier II), been defeated 4 times (three times by a higher-ranked player, and once by a lower-ranked opponent – Ai & Chanda )

Is this a coincidence? Are they inspired by each other?

Anyway, to answer the question, my fave is JUSTINE. Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against Kim (what is there not to like about her ?), but there is something about Justine, a mixture of strength and frailty that makes her endearing to me. And she’s a pleasure to watch. She has repeatedly left me open-mouthed by her genius strokes, and she’s the only one that can do that to me.

Justine's game is better but she has zero personality. She reminds me of sampras. Kim is fun and sweet and has a refreshing attitude for a world class athlete. She is my favorite belgian.

Justine mixes it up and has it down technically while Kim takes chances and waits for her opponent to mess up. Justine can be a little open but overall cold while Kim seems to always be cheery. Justine has that backhand and Kim has her splits.

Technique: Justine.
On court personality: Kim.
Power: Kim.
Finesse: Justine.
Off the court persona: Kim.

so Kim would be my favorite but I admire Justine's game.

They both debuted at the same tournament (Kim lost in the quarterfinals to Sarah Pitkowski after having a match point. Justine beat Pitkowski in the finals). They've been going to competitions together since Kim was 8 and Justine was 9. Both of their mothers had cancer. They're only a year and a week apart in age. Both are the oldest (surviving) girls in their families. They've won a doubles title together (a challenger in Israel).
This year: They reached the same round at the Australian Open. To win their titles, both had to beat either a current or former number one. Both are at career highs in the rankings. Both could (not making this up) be top three players by Wimbledon.
I could go on, but the point is that you're absolutely right. It is spooky how much they share.

another thing i like about justine besides her finese and the absolute beauty of her game is the fact that she can seriously go down in history just for that backhand. i mean she might never win a GS title or reach no. 1 but she will always be the girl who mcenroe named to have the best backhand in both the men's and women's game. her backhand has been likened to navratilova and graff. i mean just for that backhand, justine will be remembered and respected more than kim, i guess. i mean don't get me wrong, kim has a very respectable game but 50 years from now, we will all still remember the beautiful backhand game of justine henin-hardenne. i don't think there is any aspect of kim's game that is as memorable.

It would be very funny to see how this pans out. 'Cause for all the Kim-hype it wouldn't surprise me if Justine's the one who scores big first. I think she could have already scored a big one if she was just a bit mentally stronger( RG's semis vs Kim.). Plus she is the one who has been playing the sisters thougher! She had plenty of though 3-setters against Venus and is the ONLY person to defeat Serena twice in the past year, so I really like her chances. Or not. 'Cause the sisters have the nagging sense of shutting up all talk! Remember Kim the hopeful?!

Justine, tho' her game is fun to watch, does nothing for me in terms of her off court personality and comments. Guess I'm not into the same kind of "intrigue" as some of you. ;)
