Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez, the world's top-ranked doubles team, needed just 59 minutes Sunday to clinch the Family Circle Cup championship with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over the third-seeded duo of Janette Husarova and Conchita Martinez.

It was the 16th career doubles title for Ruano Pascual and Suarez, who teamed to win the French Open and U.S. Open last year as well as the Family Circle Cup in 2000.

Suarez, from Argentina, is the world's top-ranked doubles player. Ruano Pascual, from Spain, is ranked No. 2.

Ruano Pascual and Suarez will split $57,000 for winning the doubles title. Martinez and Husarova, who won a three-set, nearly 3-hour semifinal match Saturday evening against Elena Dementieva and Lina Krasnoroutskaya, will split $29,000 for second.

Family Circle Cup officials announced that 8,925 spectators attended Sunday's championship matches, bringing the total tournament attendance to 81,389.

That number was well below the 89,395 who attended last year's tournament, but better than the 80,625 who attended the first event on Daniel Island. This year's Family Circle was plagued by four days of cold, wet weather, and rain forced the cancellation of two night sessions.

The best-attended individual session was Friday night, when 9,237 spectators came to see a quarterfinal match between top seed Serena Williams and No. 6 seed Jelena Dokic. Saturday's semifinals drew 9,151.

Williams' loss to Justine Henin-Hardenne will not affect her No. 1 ranking. Williams entered the Family Circle Cup with a statistical cushion between her and the world's No. 2 player, sister Venus Williams.

Henin-Hardenne's world ranking of fourth is also not expected to change. Updated WTA rankings will be released today.
